As fantasy cosplayers in their spare time, there was no doubt in their minds that Joana and Maria’s wedding would be a fantastical fairytale! Drawing inspiration from all different areas - their participation in medieval festivals, their love of steampunk and all things rustic and fairytales; they didn’t want to be constrained by one particular genre so they just chose all the things they love.

Rock n Roll Bride was built on sharing alternative, inspirational yet attainable real weddings. When I started blogging in 2007 there was no other platform showcasing weddings that sauntered off the beaten path. However through many long hours of trawling wedding forums, Flickr groups and good old fashion Google, I was able to uncover many, MANY incredibly creative, super unique real weddings that weren't being shared anywhere else  - I assume because they didn't fit the picture perfect, traditional wedding mould that was so popular a decade ago.

Charlie and Mark had a pretty unconventional, NSFW engagement shoot (which is actually one of my favourites we've ever published!) so, unsurprisingly, their September wedding shunned tradition too. They decided that they wanted a bohemian inspired by with elements of Peaky Blinders and Wes Anderson. They did lots of DIY projects to make their day feel really special and personal. It came very naturally to Zoë and Gav to have a day that reflected their true personalities and to make choices that felt right to them.  “I’ve never understood why girls who have never set foot in a national trust in their lives suddenly want to get married in a stately home,” said Zoë. “Maybe its just nice to be someone else, someone more fancy and regal for a day?”

However, bisexuals seem to be one of the groups who are so often forgotten or even purposefully excluded.

It wouldn’t have been a spooky themed issue without a suitably gothic editorial. For our cover shoot in our Sept/Oct edition, we used two models so we could show both the light and dark side – and we think the interplay and contrast between black and white really works. And yes, you can definitely bring a gothic vibe to your wedding look while still wearing white!

Claire and Ralph own a small pub, so naturally they got married in a working brewery! With a budget of just £4,000, they pulled off both an intimate family wedding at the registry office, and then a few days later a bit party for everyone else. "We chose to get married around Halloween as it's my favourite time of year", Claire told us, "I also wanted to bring in my love for all things celestial."

You're going to adore this homage to the spirit of rock n' roll mixed with Valentine's Day motifs. Inspired by none other than the King of Rock n' Roll himself, Elvis Presley, this wedding shoot was all about creating a retro, loved up, nostalgic mood, set against the backdrop of love's most celebrated day. Velvet textures mixed with reds and pinks created this visual feast that was all about celebrating love!
