Geoff and Tristen tied the knot in January 2023 and their wedding was a blend of dark and moody elegance which showcased their love for all things dark and spooky. The theme was reflected in Tristen’s dream black wedding dress and the intimate, dinner reception. For them, the ceremony was the most important part, so that’s where they focused their energy.

“The inspiration was Tristen’s love for everything dark and spooky and Geoff’s dark-sided nature,” they told us. “Geoff walked down the aisle with his mother to The Imperial March from Star Wars. His mother also was our officiant which was super special. Our vows were non-traditional in some aspects as we both are more spiritual than religious, they were about the importance of always being a team and being equals. Geoff’s nephews were the ring bearers and his niece was the flower girl, which was special to have them be a part of the ceremony.”

“We also had a ‘snapshot moment’ during the otherwise unplugged ceremony, where our friends and family could take out their phones for one minute to quickly get whatever photos they wanted before the minute was up! When we finally walked back down the aisle as husband and wife, our wedding song Beautiful Losers by Coheed and Cambria played, a band that we have bonded over and seen many times together.”

Foregoing a large reception for an intimate dinner was a decision that suited the couple’s personalities. “A small intimate dinner was perfect for us,” they shared. “We, as a couple, hate being the centre of attention and therefore we did NOT want a huge party as our reception. It was everything she could’ve dreamed of.” It also saved them a lot of money as they didn’t need to pay for a larger venue, a DJ or additional decor and rentals which can really add to the wedding costs.

The planning process wasn’t without stress, but Geoff and Tristen navigated it with love, support, and a clear vision of what they wanted. Their advice to future couples is to enjoy every moment of the engagement and planning process and to remember that your wedding day is yours to shape as you wish. “Enjoy the day itself because it really does go by quickly – they’re not lying!” they concluded.
