Rockabilly Meets Mexican Fiesta Wedding

Rockabilly Meets Mexican Fiesta Wedding (43)

Mel and Lee met through mutual friends at a car show in 2010. They got talking about their cars and that was it! They wanted their wedding to reflect their day-to-day style and interests so, although Day of the Dead was their underlying theme, as far as everything else went, if they liked it they put it in the wedding! The end result was a Mexican fiesta, meets Day of the Dead, meets rockabilly wedding.

The wedding took place at The Green House Hotel, Bournemouth. “We didn’t worry about having a set theme”, said Mel. “The underlying theme was Day of the Dead, but we also just wanted it be ‘us’. We mostly chose vendors that we knew. The photographer, cake maker, florist, band, make up artist and most other smaller contributors were all ether friends, or friends of friends. We are lucky to know some very talented people! We liked how this made it feel really personal and we also made some amazing new friends through planning the wedding.”

Chilled Beach Wedding Inspired by Bougenvillia

Chilled Beach Wedding Inspired by Bougenvillia (47)

Lynne and Callum described their wedding as ‘beachy and chilled’ and were inspired by the colour of pink Bougenvillia flowers, which also reminded them of sunshine, holidays and good times together. They had pink invitations, pink flowers and Lynne wore a non-traditional two-piece with a dip-dyed pink skirt.

The couple were actually legally married in London beforehand, which took the pressure off. “It was a really relaxed ceremony,” said Lynne, “we had two readings; Mission Beach by Clare Pollard and an excerpt from Hemmingway’s A Farewell to Arms read by two of our best friends. We also got everyone to sing Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles and Is this Love by Bob Marley. The songs were brilliant and it was quite amusing looking at everyone having a sing and a little dance during the ceremony. Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Callum and all our guests together was my favourite part of the day.”

Annie and Paul met when the bride first visited the UK. She was in Sheffield with a friend and they met at the pub that he was working in. When they came to get married, they wanted to have two celebrations in their respective countries. This first one took place on a beach in Sydney in March (their UK wedding will be in a future issue of Rock n Roll Bride magazine so watch this space!)

“Our Australian wedding theme was a total mash up as our own tastes, cultures and lifestyles”, said Annie. “We wanted our guests to be colourful and comfortable, period. So naturally the styling was equally colourful with a rolling theme of yellow, white and lavender. Paul described it as beach DIY madness… I would say boho beach vibes meets Rock n Roll!”

surprise-wedding-italy-21

Michela and Federico had a secret wedding. They got legally married in the morning, but didn’t tell anyone. They just organised a party for their 10 year anniversary and surprised everyone by telling them they got married earlier in the day!

“We knew that we wanted a different wedding that spoke about us and about our love story”, said the bride. “The best part of the day was the surprise when our guests found out we really got married! Nobody, except our families, knew that we got married that morning. As our party was only supposed to be an anniversary party some of our friends though it would be funny to prepare a fake ceremony for us. It should have been a simple joke but at the end of it the ‘officiant’ told everybody that during the morning we were truly get married! Everyone was so shocked!”

Lynette and James’ wedding was quintessentially ‘them’. They were married with just the bride’s brother, the groom’s mum and their two children as guests. Their son wore a dragon onesie and their daughter fluffy ears and a tail. The bride wore leopard print leggings under her dress. After their short ceremony they all went to a local restaurant for lunch together.

“Our wedding was unplanned, smiley, full of love and dinosaurs!” said Lynette. “We just wanted everyone to enjoy the day and be happy. We spent less than £500 too. We were pretty impressed with ourselves. We are not materialistic people and the whole day was just about us and the fact we were getting married. We just invited the children and James’ mum. We just wanted minimum fuss and the whole day to be about us, our love and getting married. We wanted the day to be special to us and to only have each other and a couple of guests made it a much more intimate and special day in our eyes. Plus, now we can spend the money we saved on travelling and adventures!”
