January 16, 2017

Bunny and Sarah were married at Burning Man Festival. Their theme was based on their Disco Jelly art car that they made for their camp. "Getting married at Burning Man was very unusual!" said Bunny. "The environment and elements, such as heat, wind and dust (sometimes all at the same time!), made the wedding very different and challenging. During the ceremony a dust storm came, but we didn't thinking about pausing for a second. It made our moments very raw and unforgettable."

Shen and Eva's wedding was inspired by Shen's love of red hearts and how they've decorated their home. "After I purchased my dress (the red one), and as an extension of our home decor, we had lots of love hearts everywhere in the wedding", said Shen. "The day had a little bit of us all over it - from Marvel to Minions with some vintage cameras (as a nod to my work) and music thrown in. Raisa and Maite, two creative and edgy girls from Holland and Germany, were married outside in August. "The overall theme was a vintage and 'til death do us part," they said. Maite has a thing for skeletons and skulls, and Raisa loves festivals and the circus so we wanted to mesh the two together."

Claire and Lou wanted a relaxed wedding that all their guests would enjoy. "The inspiration for our wedding came quite naturally", Lou told me. "All we wanted was to feel comfortable in our outfits and for our guests to feel comfortable too. We wanted people to socialise as much as possible and for everyone to have an amazing time with us. We wanted a nice flow on the running order and our priority was to ensure that no-one was hanging around waiting for the next part of the day feeling hungry or bored!"

Ira and MJ wanted a short and sweet sunrise ceremony. They said their vows to each other in front of the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. The inn was a particularly significant place for them to marry as it was the site of the Stonewall riots of 1969, which is widely considered to be the single most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for gay and lesbian rights in the United States.

Small and Private Wedding in Wellington

Toni Larsen

August 14, 2015

Laura and Toni wanted a low key wedding. After a ceremony at Wellington registry office, this kiwi pair had a small gathering at Logan Brown restaurant. "The whole point of the day for us was not to make a whole set of decisions for everyone else", they explained. "All we kept hearing from other people was that they regretted making the whole day about keeping everyone else comfortable and ended up losing sight of the fact the event was supposed to be about them celebrating their love for each other. We debated eloping to Vegas (seriously) for about a year, before finally settling on doing something small, private and intimate, locally."
