The first was a nod to René Magritte and his surrealist work The Treachery of Images, with its famous declaration, "Ceci n’est pas une pipe” (this is not a pipe). The second was due to the legal reality of their relationship.

A 70s disco influence ran through everything at Lucy and Jess' wedding. The main colour of the day was burnt orange and it showed up in the bridesmaid’s mix of dresses and suits, in the confetti, the bouquets, and across all the self-designed stationery. Disco balls were used alongside vinyl records, which doubled as a guest book and part of the seating plan.

April and Brandy married twice, both in ways that made sense for them. In July, under a willow tree in the garden of their friend and photographer Courtney of Stag and Bird, the couple made it official. By autumn, they decided they wanted a second day that marked the marriage in a different way. So, in October they drove four hours south from where they live in Kansas City to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Waiting for them were Courtney and her assistant Kendal, along with a loose plan to say some vows at sunrise at Lover’s Leap, a scenic overlook just outside the town.

They called it a love letter to the alt-lux side of weddings: velvet and smoke, drama and decadence, edge and elegance. The goal was to show that goth, glam, and alternative can sit right alongside luxury, without losing the grit.

Jade and Simon’s took over Cultplex in Manchester for their wedding ceremony, turning the stage in front of the big screen into their altar. As the bride is polyamorous, this wasn't about tradition or legality - in fact the ceremony was not actually legally binding - all they cared about was creating something that felt collaborative and real. The bride's other partners were also involved in the day, acting as their officiant and doing readings. With a budget of just £3,000, they pulled off a wedding that was totally DIY.
