Colourful, Communal & Environmentally-Friendly Wedding in a Woodland

Rea and Rhi’s colourful woodland wedding is not only beautiful to look at, it’s a totally feelgood day too. Their inspiration for the day was about community, with everyone coming together to support them and celebrate their connection. There’s a beautiful communal spirit that oozes out of these photos. And with a colour scheme that extended to ‘hot pink, yolk yellow, orange, salmon and purple’, it was also all things bright and beautiful!

Their starting point was finding an outside venue where they could get married “beneath a canopy of silver birch trees, and party all night long without being told to go to bed!” They found the perfect venue in Comrie Croft, Crieff, which meant they could host it as a sleepover wedding too! They decorated the ceremony area and barn-come-ballroom with origami lanterns, metres and metres of bunting and fairy lights wrapped around the trees.

“Our wedding theme was ‘Party of the Year’ – a chilled party where we could strip away the stiff ceremonial timeline where people have to wait for permission to have fun,” they explain. The decorations were DIYed by a group of friends who Rea and Rhi affectionately call the ‘party pixie pals’ (peep the blue t-shirt). “One weekend, our friends got together to turn our friend’s living room into a bunting-making factory, with coloured fabric everywhere! Our friend Robert also masterminded the designs for origami lanterns made from coloured card with no instructions – he came up with everything himself!”

As well as helping decorate the wedding, friends and family played a major part in the other parts of the day too. “The community theme was evident in the fact many of our friends and family contributed directly to important aspects, such as being a celebrant and making the three-tiered cocktail cake (pina colada, strawberry daiquiri, and margarita flavour!)”.

Whimsical Woodland Wedding Featuring Foxes, Star Wars & Lots of Colour

Lucy and Stuart’s playful wedding brought together elements of everything that they loved. To suit their rustic barn venue, High House Farm Brewery in Matfen, they went with a woodland vibe, which they then added whimsical edges to it as, in Lucy’s own words, “I wanted to add unicorns and glitter!” Squirrels, foxes and unicorns were the inspiration for the day, and this totally shows. “I wanted to include lots of things that were special to us, and I love anything personalised so everything we did had a bit of ‘us’ in it.”

As film fans and comic lovers (after initially talking on OK Cupid, they met for the first time at a London Comicon where Lucy was dressed as the Troll Hunter from the film Troll Hunter!) the guys all had paper buttonholes made from comic books or music sheets by Becky Meadows. The ladies all had daisy chains, to keep up with the whimsical woodland feel. Stuart also managed to get a Star Trek quote into the ring exchange that was part of their laid back ceremony.

Bohemian Forest Wedding Inspired by the South American Sunset (with the Bride in a Hand-Painted Dress!)

I don’t usually like to make assumptions about which weddings might be the most popular ones that we publish, but I’m pretty confident to state that I think you are all going to lose your collective shit when you see Lisa and Tom’s wedding. Why? Well would you get a load of her DRESS!!! Before we move onto discussing anything else about this one, we need to talk about that immediately!

Unbelievably, the dress was actually upcycled from an inexpensive secondhand gown by one of the bridesmaids! Lisa explained, “My dress, shoes, decorations were all down to my most incredible bridesmaids and mum, with a huge shout out to the most bad ass bridesmaid, Katy. She doubled up as my dressmaker/ graphic designer/ sign maker/ temporary tattooist! I’d been spamming the bessies from half way across the world with colour schemes and dress ideas. Katy then surprised me on my birthday by sending me a photo of the most incredible ‘prototype dress’ that she had lovingly adopted from a charity shop and painstakingly painted and sewn back together.”

Pagan Wedding at a Medieval Hobbit Village

Stefanie and Loren picked 22nd to 24th September as the weekend to celebrate their wedding, chosen to coincide with the autumn equinox. The bride being an alternative wedding planner herself meant she handled everything. She also put together all the flowers (with her team of helpers!) and the groom created the invitations.

The weekend took place at Cae Mabon, and eco-friendly retreat centre in Snowdonia. “The whole site of Cae Mabon looks like a medieval hobbit village as all the dwellings are traditionally built eco-friendly designs” Stefanie began. “So in terms of décor we hardly needed to do anything at all. They don’t normally allow weddings here, just small retreats so we were very lucky and had to really honour the space by using eco-friendly shampoo and conditioner and recycling every single bit of our wedding waste. The whole site has beautiful carvings etched into the trees like the Fairy Queen who watches over the woods, medieval style thatched huts and even a wood-heated natural hot tub right next to the stream so other than adding a few flowers, signage and fairy lights, we didn’t need to do anything!”

Relaxed Boho Woodland Wedding With a Rock n Roll Twist

Megan and Ben’s autumnal wedding took place at stunning Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean, where Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was filmed! It’s also rumoured to have inspired J. R. R. Tolkien. Huge cool points from the get-go! Getting the legal bit sorted in the register office the week before freed the couple up to take full advantage of this amazing location, and also to have long time friend of theirs, James, officiate.

The bride described the wedding theme as, “Relaxed, boho, happy vibes with a rock twist,” and when asked what the inspiration was said, “Honestly, I’m not entirely sure… I wanted to still have traditional elements with our own twist on them, for example I love how heavily tattooed brides in white challenge the classic virginal expectations.”

“Our venue was completely and utterly magical, if I do say so myself”, she continued. “It’s also not a place that usually offers weddings, and so I knew that what we would create on the day would be completely unique. We stayed as true to ourselves as we could, down to the music, food, and decorations, but our guests loved it because they love us! The fact we had one of our close friends ‘marry’ us made it incredibly personal.”

Low Stress Woodland Fantasy Wedding for Under $2500

Mercedes and Roman are both big fans of sci-fi and fantasy gaming (think Dungeons and Dragons and Magic the Gathering) so they wanted their wedding to hint towards a fantasy theme, without being too over the top.

“We wanted to do something with a subtle fantasy theme,” explained Mercedes. “Our venue really allowed us to play with that theme and our photographer was more than happy to use that for inspiration in some of the edits of our photos. Rock n Roll Bride helped us realise that we could achieve our goal while sticking to a budget and maintaining a low stress experience through planning our wedding. All in all, the focus of our wedding was to be romantic, personal, and low stress to plan. We probably could have gone more all out with a fantasy theme, but instead chose to keep things simple.”

As a hint to their theme, Mercedes wore fantasy inspired accessories with her wedding dress. “I have a bit of an alternative appearance and style and chose to wear a light blue and lavender dress as well as Elven and fantasy inspired accessories. Roman has bit of an eclectic and vintage style and was happy that he wore something a bit different from a standard tuxedo.”
