Bohemian Forest Wedding Inspired by the South American Sunset (with the Bride in a Hand-Painted Dress!)

I don’t usually like to make assumptions about which weddings might be the most popular ones that we publish, but I’m pretty confident to state that I think you are all going to lose your collective shit when you see Lisa and Tom’s wedding. Why? Well would you get a load of her DRESS!!! Before we move onto discussing anything else about this one, we need to talk about that immediately!

Unbelievably, the dress was actually upcycled from an inexpensive secondhand gown by one of the bridesmaids! Lisa explained, “My dress, shoes, decorations were all down to my most incredible bridesmaids and mum, with a huge shout out to the most bad ass bridesmaid, Katy. She doubled up as my dressmaker/ graphic designer/ sign maker/ temporary tattooist! I’d been spamming the bessies from half way across the world with colour schemes and dress ideas. Katy then surprised me on my birthday by sending me a photo of the most incredible ‘prototype dress’ that she had lovingly adopted from a charity shop and painstakingly painted and sewn back together.”

Pagan Wedding at a Medieval Hobbit Village

Stefanie and Loren picked 22nd to 24th September as the weekend to celebrate their wedding, chosen to coincide with the autumn equinox. The bride being an alternative wedding planner herself meant she handled everything. She also put together all the flowers (with her team of helpers!) and the groom created the invitations.

The weekend took place at Cae Mabon, and eco-friendly retreat centre in Snowdonia. “The whole site of Cae Mabon looks like a medieval hobbit village as all the dwellings are traditionally built eco-friendly designs” Stefanie began. “So in terms of décor we hardly needed to do anything at all. They don’t normally allow weddings here, just small retreats so we were very lucky and had to really honour the space by using eco-friendly shampoo and conditioner and recycling every single bit of our wedding waste. The whole site has beautiful carvings etched into the trees like the Fairy Queen who watches over the woods, medieval style thatched huts and even a wood-heated natural hot tub right next to the stream so other than adding a few flowers, signage and fairy lights, we didn’t need to do anything!”

Relaxed Boho Woodland Wedding With a Rock n Roll Twist

Megan and Ben’s autumnal wedding took place at stunning Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean, where Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was filmed! It’s also rumoured to have inspired J. R. R. Tolkien. Huge cool points from the get-go! Getting the legal bit sorted in the register office the week before freed the couple up to take full advantage of this amazing location, and also to have long time friend of theirs, James, officiate.

The bride described the wedding theme as, “Relaxed, boho, happy vibes with a rock twist,” and when asked what the inspiration was said, “Honestly, I’m not entirely sure… I wanted to still have traditional elements with our own twist on them, for example I love how heavily tattooed brides in white challenge the classic virginal expectations.”

“Our venue was completely and utterly magical, if I do say so myself”, she continued. “It’s also not a place that usually offers weddings, and so I knew that what we would create on the day would be completely unique. We stayed as true to ourselves as we could, down to the music, food, and decorations, but our guests loved it because they love us! The fact we had one of our close friends ‘marry’ us made it incredibly personal.”

Low Stress Woodland Fantasy Wedding for Under $2500

Mercedes and Roman are both big fans of sci-fi and fantasy gaming (think Dungeons and Dragons and Magic the Gathering) so they wanted their wedding to hint towards a fantasy theme, without being too over the top.

“We wanted to do something with a subtle fantasy theme,” explained Mercedes. “Our venue really allowed us to play with that theme and our photographer was more than happy to use that for inspiration in some of the edits of our photos. Rock n Roll Bride helped us realise that we could achieve our goal while sticking to a budget and maintaining a low stress experience through planning our wedding. All in all, the focus of our wedding was to be romantic, personal, and low stress to plan. We probably could have gone more all out with a fantasy theme, but instead chose to keep things simple.”

As a hint to their theme, Mercedes wore fantasy inspired accessories with her wedding dress. “I have a bit of an alternative appearance and style and chose to wear a light blue and lavender dress as well as Elven and fantasy inspired accessories. Roman has bit of an eclectic and vintage style and was happy that he wore something a bit different from a standard tuxedo.”

Down the Rabbit Hole: Alice in Wonderland Woodland Wedding

Are you ready for the Alice in Wonderland wedding to end all Alice in Wonderland weddings? Well buckle up baby because you’re in for one hell of a psychedelic ride!

Tumi and MJ wanted their wedding to be Alice in Wonderland themed, but not the Disney version. They were inspired by Lewis Carroll’s original books. Almost all the elements were custom or handmade. They had a bell that rung during their Mad Hatter’s Tea Party reception to make people change seats, had a bridal bouquet treasure hunt and ‘drink me’ shots for everyone before they walked through the door to the ceremony!

“I have never been the typical girly girl,” explained Tumi. “I’ve always been a little alternative. My husband and I are both artists, adventurous and fun-loving. We wanted a theme that would reflect that. Sometimes our lives are like a trip down the rabbit hole, and this was an opportunity to take everyone with us on that journey. We have never been good at following mainstream and have always preferred things that are unique and one-of-a-kind, so almost everything in our wedding was.”

Their ceremony was set in the middle of the forest, under a giant mushroom! “We kept the vows simple, and opted for an Apache blessing. A favourite added bonus was our good friend’s (the lead singer of MJ’s band theSHIFT) song selection as I walked through the forest to the clearing where the ceremony was held. He chose to sing White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane, it was PERFECT!”

Autumnal Wedding with a Woodland Fairy Bride

Oh man, do we have the most perfect autumnal wedding to share with you today. Kirsty and Matt were married on October 28th, 2016 (happy anniversary for tomorrow guys!) at St John’s Church which is located on Thorsby Estate in Sherwood Forest.

Would you get a good eyeful of Kristy’s dress? Yes, that is a trail of faux foliage down the back of her skirt! She had it made for her by Eternally Yours and her brief was to look like a woodland fairy for the day.

“Autumn is our favourite time of year”, began the bride, “we love the colour changing leaves, campfires, apple cider and pumpkins (not forgetting Halloween!). Being surrounded by woodland and nature is where we feel most happiest and comfortable.”

“As people who are uncomfortable being the centre of attention and are both naturally shy, it was paramount that the people who surrounded us were the people who we felt most relaxed around. The ceremony was only attended by close family and friends. A magical moment occurred when we entered the church, one that can’t be explained. An inner peace enclosed us and a confidence materialised that we had never had before. Our vows were made with a clear voice and our heads were held high throughout.  Our rings we wear with pride are from Matt’s late father and my late grandmother, the only explanation we can give is that they were by our side.”
