Nature Inspired Pot Luck & DIY Wedding with the Groom in Dungarees!

If there’s one thing that unifies and defines what makes a wedding a ‘Rock n Roll Bride wedding’ it’s that the couple getting married have a day that perfectly reflects them, their relationship, their families and their love. This is so very true for Tara and Shags who were married at their family’s property which sits alongside Muddy Creek in Delta, PA.

The florist bride did all the decor and flower arrangements (the flowers were all handpicked from their own home), they had their guests bring a dish for the meal instead of a gift, and the groom wore dungarees without a shirt underneath as this was the very outfit he was wearing when they first met. Sweet or what!? Even the entertainment was effectively DIY with the band, Bustle & Bump, being made up of their friends.

“We met at a friends wedding five years ago”, began the bride. “We had known each other for years but exchanged numbers at the wedding. He was shirtless, wearing bib overalls. I asked him what he had going on underneath and he replied, ‘boxer briefs’. We have been together ever since.”

“Our wedding theme was nature and white lace. I grow up alongside the river and couldn’t think of getting married anywhere else. I collected vintage amber glass for over a year in preparation along with yellow or green tablecloths. I wanted the lighting to be mostly natural and wanted to line the tables with candles. My inspiration was the peace and beauty of nature.

Village Fete Meets Woodland Vegan Wedding

Wheeler and Tylah’s love story reads like a millennial fairytale – they met on Instagram (!) when Tylah was moving house and posted that she hadn’t unpacked her kettle yet, so Wheeler offered her round for a cup of tea.

Their initial inspiration for their wedding day was the wedding from Twilight, though Pinterest then took over. Tylah and her dad stopped by the bar on their walk down the aisle for a quick shot of Apple Sourz, and as their big day fell on the same day as the World Cup quarter finals, a few guests were sneakily watching the England v Sweden match on their mobile phones under the table at dinner!

If you’re thinking “Damn, this is the most photogenic couple I’ve ever seen”, it’s for good reason – both Wheeler and Tyler work in the modelling industry. So when it came to deciding their budget for their big day, they knew the value of spending as much as possible on your photographer/videographer. They made the rest of their £10,000 budget work hard by DIYing pretty much everything apart from their outfits.

Moody and Romantic Autumnal Woodland Wedding

Travis and Romey met five years ago, and were obsessed with each other from the moment they laid eyes on one another. It took a year for them to pluck up the courage to make a move, but once they did – the rest, as they say, is history!

Their focus for their wedding day was to choose what they liked, and to make their day unique to them. Their venue, Haycroft Farm, allowed for them to have their humanist ceremony in the beautiful pine forests on the grounds. It was performed by Romey’s sister, which made for an extra-special and emotional moment.

“The ceremony was my favourite part of the day,” said Romey. “Walking arm in arm with my dad through the forest to the clearing where our ceremony took place, was an amazing feeling. Then seeing all the people I love in one space, looking at me with smiles on their faces really filled me with so much joy. Finally, seeing my husband with tears rolling down his face at the end of the aisle absolutely so me off – I could barely get through reading my vows! It all felt like a dream.”

Fat-Positive Welsh Woodland Wedding

Lucy and Rob’s wedding was inspirational for so many reasons – not only was it a whimsical-meets-punk festival wonderland, but it was also totally fat-positive and body-positive experience.

“Our wedding was 100% fat positive and body positive,” Lucy explains. “I refuse to buy into this ridiculous notion that you can’t possibly be fat and also happy to get married, and I didn’t change my body to fit in with the impossible ‘bridal ideal’ pushed by the mainstream wedding industry. We went to a few wedding fairs and the lack of diversity, and the promotion of cosmetic surgery, was just depressing. It made me more determined to use as many independent suppliers as possible and reject the dominant narrative.”

As as a plus-size bride, Lucy was worried that she’d feel uncomfortable or be body-shamed, but the bit of getting married she was most concerned about ended up as her favourite part! Her dress was a bespoke piece from E&W Couture which she found at Rachel Burgess Bridal Boutique, with a beautiful green skirt. “I knew I wanted to have colour in the skirt, and after some back and forth we decided green was the right choice,” she says. “Sophie (from E&W) and Rachel were angels to work with!”

Laid Back Woodland Wedding with an Embroidered Floral Dress

Rosie and Alex’s beautiful early summer wedding was held at Hothorpe Hall in Leicestershire. The fantastic thing about their venue was that they were able to be married outside in the woodlands, like they always wanted. This helped to set the theme of their day.

“The theme unfolded from the venue and the stunning woodland setting”, explained Rosie. “I had always had a secret dream to get married outside and the when we saw The Woodlands I knew this could be possible. Al and I are country bumpkins at heart, what with trees, a babbling brook and cabin-style accommodation, the venue had it all. Also it is only 10 minutes from our home, making it perfect for the majority of our guests.”

“I started collecting bits and bobs as soon as we got engaged, and things grew from there. My good friend Millie (who also made our cake) helped to decorate our venue with beautiful flowers – she has such an eye for detail and after the ceremony I saw what she had added and I was blown away by what she added to the décor.”

Spiritual Woodland Wedding with Crystals and Sage Stick Smudging

If you are interested in spirituality, this is the wedding for you. Felix and Jack’s delightful woodland wedding, held in the garden of their family home, was inspired and led by their spirituality, with numerous rituals taking centre stage.

“We were inspired by our belief that all things are connected, and energies are much more profound when shared collectively,” the couple explains. “Upon arrival, our guests took part in a sage purification ceremony to rid themselves of any negative energies. The ceremony involved walking through the billowing smoke of burning sage smudge stick, then balancing the masculine/yang aspect of that exercise by passing through the feminine/yin aspect of incense. Clapping or ringing a bell between the two produces a total cleansing effect.”
