Josh and Shandre weren’t afraid of being a little kitsch and over-the-top with their wedding theme. They wanted to tie together a movie theme, with Halloween, while keeping a very home-y atmosphere. They asked their family and friends to dress up as their favourite movie or Halloween character so it felt less like a traditional wedding and more like a house party celebration, which is exactly what they achieved!

Sarah and Shaun's boho movie-inspired wedding is incredible, for many reasons. Their venue, Rich Mix Cinema, looked like SO MUCH FUN,  and their styling was sensational (any couple who gets married in front of Leonardo DiCaprio's face on a screen is a winner in my eyes). But above the awesome alternative styling and the delicious photos from faves Through The Woods We Ran, Sarah and Shaun's wedding is amazing because of their story and their planning approach in the face of major adversity

February 18, 2018

Bren and Cha's spring wedding in Dublin was all about the fun. They moved between two venues in the city: The country pub, Anglers Rest, for the ceremony and then on to the reception at their favourite nightclub. The Grand Social. The bride paid €50 for her dress in a charity shop and got it customised to suit her style. Chucky and the Bride of Chucky made multiple appearances, and their friends played a huge part in the day from making the bouquet, decorating the reception venue, DJing, to making the wedding cake.

Harry Potter Wedding at Hogwarts

OK, so Lewis and Cassie's wedding wasn't actually held at Hogwarts, but there ceremony venue, Manchester Town Hall, does have a striking resemblance! "Two words describe our wedding entirely: Harry Potter!" said the bride. "We got engaged at the Diagon Alley section at Universal Studios Florida and have always loved the Harry Potter films and books. It made sense to us to have a Harry Potter themed wedding and to take pretty much all of the inspiration for our day from the films. We wanted it to look quirky and classy but not like an 8-year-old’s birthday party which can sometimes be a challenge when you have a theme, especially something like Harry Potter!"

Inspired by Wes Anderson, Jennie and Fergus planned a quirky wedding at Camp and Furnace in Liverpool. "Our wedding was Wes Anderson themed in the sense that small nods ran through the venue decoration, entertainment and outfits", the groom explained. "We're both massive fans of his films and the level of set design minutiae that goes into them lent itself quite nicely to an underlying theme for a wedding."

Lauren and Mike spent just £2500 on their gorgeous wedding. They were inspired by two things - the movies and lavender. "We had lots of references to the movies", the bride said. "We are both massive film geeks and we couldn't not have that represented on our big day. We had little hints scattered all over the place, including our Star Wars photo booth, movie quotes and movie poster illustrations around the venue, marvel confetti cones, and Mendl's boxes for wedding favours from The Grand Budapest Hotel."

Halloween and Lego Wedding

I don't think it'll come as a massive surprise to any of you that the vast majority of newly-weds I interview say that they wanted their wedding to reflect them. They took their mutual passions and combined them to create a wedding that felt individual, authentic and unique. But it might shock you to hear that a lot of brides I chat to pre-wedding tell me that they're really worried about whether their mish-mash of ideas will work together. I mean, when you have a set theme it's pretty easy to know what's going to go... but Halloween, Lego and sparkles? Do those things work side by side?

Retro and Superhero Themed Wedding at a Movie Theatre

When Jess first saw Nick she felt like she was in her very own movie, "I was shopping with my mum and sister and we were taking a break in the food court. I looked up, and in slow motion (it was like a movie, I literally saw it in slow motion) I saw the most gorgeous man I had ever seen. I just sat, frozen in my seat, mouth open, staring shamelessly. Then (also in slow motion), he turned his head, locked eyes with mine, and winked. Not even joking. I giggled, blushed, and turned away. Next thing I know, I hear a voice say, 'Can I sit here?' I turn around, and it's him! Before I left the mall that day, I gave him my number, and we took a picture together, right in the food court."

Being big foodies, Billy & Laura knew they wanted to serve up an amazing feast at their wedding. But they wanted to do it in their own way, so a Full English Breakfast it was! "Overall we just wanted our wedding to be the best party anyone had ever been to", wrote the bride. "We wanted great food, music and laughter. We definitely wanted our food to be different as we’d attended 8 or 9 weddings the year before and had (albeit very tasty) the same meal over and over."

Geeky & Movie Themed Ironworks Wedding: Ellery & Arlyn

October 24, 2012

Back to the future, Indiana Jones, zombies... If you were to ask me to list my all time favourite things they would all be way up there. So when Ellery & Arlyn's geeky gorgeous wedding landed on my lap I was more than a little bit excited to blog it... but also rather gutted that we didn't do our wedding this way! The Canadian couple were married at The Ironworks Studios in Vancouver. "The Ironworks used to be an old iron factory near the train tracks just outside of Gastown," began the bride. "It's now an eclectic venue used mainly for concerts and TV or movie shoots. We went to our friend’s book signing event there a few years ago and when we started talking about venues, the Ironworks was the place we both thought of first."
