A Wedding Inspired by the Ocean

Kat

September 8, 2011

The inspiration behind this beautiful Californian wedding, sent over to me by Jerry Yoon Photography, was the ocean. The couple, who met through a mutual friend in Philadelphia and them moved to California, had visited The Monterey Bay Aquarium during their first year living together. "I loved it," the bride told me " the intense blues and greens when you looked down in the water, to the contrasting sand and beaten rocks. I love the ocean and anything relating to it. During that visit, I took a bunch of Polaroid photos at the museum and our walks around Monterey and Pacific Grove. Years later, when we were looking for a location for our wedding, I came across those original Polaroids of Lovers Point Park, and I instantly knew this is where we were getting married."

A Simple Southern Wedding: Stephanie & Michael

Kat

September 7, 2011

Stephanie & Michael's beautiful barn wedding was held at The Lily Barn in Townsend, TN. The stunning surroundings really set the tone for their simple, intimate and classically Southern day. "My favorite thing about planning our wedding was how simple it was", Stephanie wrote. "We really didn’t fret about little details that wouldn’t matter in the end. I was just really looking forward to having all of our friends and family in the same place at the same time!"

Acceptable in the 80’s: Shelby & Stephen’s 80’s Wedding

Kat

September 6, 2011

The 1980's isn't as theme you see often in weddings...but after seeing these images of Shelby & Stephen's wedding I think that that is quite frankly a crime. As a child of the 80's I'm instantly taken back to my youth with the ammmazing 80's memorabilia boutonnieres, the cassette tape escort cards, the ghetto blaster flowergirl's basket, the computer game accessories and even the food! All in all this is one damn cool wedding. Hell, they even got thriller-inspired zombies in there!

An Eclectic 1970’s Influenced North London Wedding: Sally & Alex

Kat

September 5, 2011

I fell head over heels in love with Alex & Sally as soon as I laid my peepers on Sally's Ossie Clark-inspired wedding dress. She had it made especially for her by local dressmaker Barbara F Pellumbi. And just like the dress, the entire wedding was a unique and eclectic representation of the couple. Sally explains, "We were going to go for a Miss Saigon feel meets a tattoo-esque style but in the end it was anything that looked pretty or hard! Birds became a bit of a motif, featuring on the invites, cake and place names. We even had a lovely little stuffed bird in a cage which is where the table places were hung. We were keen to make the club (The Islington Metalworks) looked relaxed, in one area we tried to create an old skool 70's living room complete with Hilda Ogden flying birds on the wall."

A Picturesque Scottish Wedding: Fiona & Darren

Kat

September 5, 2011

By the time you read this I will be back from the US of A and probably jet-lagged to the hills! I'll be blogging all about my American Adventures really soon, but in the meantime I've got this beautiful Scottish wedding from CandySnaps Photography to share with you. Fiona & Darren were married at Boturich Castle, Alexandria. They were married outside (which in legal in Scotland) and in front of the impressive castle. The bride wore a beautiful gown and veil handmade for her by a friend and vintage jewellery which had belonged to her Grandparents. The groom wore traditional Scottish kilt, the tartan of which was an Irish pattern (Murphy) which was his Grandmother's family name.

September 4, 2011

The very lovely Tobi Hannah launches her A/W 2011 occasionwear this month and I'm thrilled to share the key pieces in the new collection with you. The core pieces are all black, bright pink or royal blue...all my favourite colours! The structured designs are bang on trend (I kinda hate that I just used that phrase but it is true...) and each piece is inspired the work of British sculptor, Jeff Lowe. I just love them all but I'm particularly drawn to Andi (love that skirt), Audrey (love the shape) and Olive (cute cute cute!) You? The range costs from just £70 and are available from Lipsy.co.uk or directly through Tobi Hannah's website now.

Vivienne Westwood, DIY Décor & Pink Plastic Flamingos: Mads & Nick

Kat

September 2, 2011

Mads & Nick are one seriously cool couple and I'm so thrilled to share their wedding with you today. I just know you're going to love it! "Our wedding was a hot mess of all-things-wedding and us," Mads explained. "I don’t think we did anything revolutionary, all the traditional parts of the wedding were there; we just made sure we took the time to think everything through and make sure it was right – for us. From the pre-ceremony music being a collection of our favourite film scores (How to Tame your Dragon anybody? Ahh just me and Nick then), to the inadvertently weepiest of readings; eight dreamy looking bridesmaids and nine hot groomsmen and our tables being named after ‘Our favourite things’ (inc Midsomer Murders and Arnold ‘The best activities for your health are humping and pumping’ Schwarzenegger – we had no shame!). We had our friend on guitar after dinner, photos in front of an abandoned concrete barn instead of the lake, pink flamingos, a Lulu Guiness corsage bridal 'bouquet (instead of a traditional bouquet)', funk and films on in the evening – who doesn’t want to watch Predator in a deckchair under a blanket with a Pimms on the go? Then at the end of the night we stole a taxi, ate cake and I got to take my spanx off. Rock n Roll!"

An Anti-Princess, Nerdy & Eco-Friendly Wedding: Josh & Jaclyn

Kat

August 31, 2011

Josh & Jaclyn were legally married on July 13th but had their reception on the 16th at Smith & Wilson Winery in Cedar Springs, Ontario. "We decided to have the reception and the ceremony were on separate dates," Jaclyn told me. "On the Wednesday before the Saturday reception Josh, I, our parents and two close friends went to city hall for a justice of the peace ceremony. It was really relaxed - we didn’t even dress up in our fancy wedding attire. I wanted this because wedding ceremonies always bore me to tears and didn’t want to put our guests through that. It is also a good thing because I got a case of the giggles so bad that tears streamed down my face and we had to pause so I could catch my breath. That would have been so horrible in front of 100+ people!"

Bunting, Cupcakes & Fizzy Pop – A Rooftop Wedding in Copenhagen: Lara & Thilde

Kat

August 30, 2011

Lara & Thilde were married in Copenhagen City Hall, Denmark followed by a laid-back reception on their own roof terrace. "We bypassed the usual registry office and managed to get married in the council chamber, where we were married by the Mayor of Environmental and Technical Affairs, Ayfer Baykal," the couple explained. "Choosing her over the registry office meant that we could be married anywhere in the City Hall, and that we had more time for the ceremony, making it more personal and intimate. We had always wanted an different day and to avoid the usual wedding clichés. We really wanted the day to reflect us, and who we are, so we had decided to hold the reception at our home. That way, we could really relax, and our guests could feel at home. Of course, the spectacular view over Copenhagen didn’t hurt!"

Rock n Roll Bride on The Morning Blend – American TV Debut!

Kat

August 29, 2011

As most of you will know, I'm currently on my first American tour (OK it's not really a 'tour' per-say as I'm only going to two places but that sounds fancy right!?) This past week I've been in Omaha for their annual fashion week. I was invited by the way-too-cool Megan Hunt better known as Princess Lasertron to model a limited edition Rock n Roll Bride dress (that she would design and make especially for me and the readers of Rock n Roll Bride) in her runway show to debut her Fall 2011 collection. She quite frankly didn't have to ask me twice. I grabbed Gareth and we hot-footed our way to the US of A.
