A Bohemian Tropical Wedding in Rio

Raissa and Tony wanted to incorporate all of the colour and fun of the bride’s home city into their bohemian inspired day. Married in September, the couple planned a day that was heavily influenced by Rio and their chosen venue.

“I was born and raised in Rio and it’s a super bohemian and tropical city”, Raissa told us. “I wanted the wedding to represent it. Also, Rio was the place Tony and I had our first date so It is an extremely important place to us.”

They chose Casa da Palma, located at in the Santa Teresa neighbourhood, as their venue as it was so beautiful and colourful in it’s own right – it suited their theme to a T! “It is a colonial house located in the middle of the trees with an amazing view to the city”, the bride continued. “I asked the florist to use tropical flowers and plants for the decoration.”

Bohemian Brazilian Beach Elopement & Pregnancy Announcement!

Larissa and Giovanni wanted their wedding to be as simple as life in the sea – surrounding by just a few people that they love, in their favourite setting, bringing back childhood memories of time at the beach and the smell of the ocean.

They planned their day at the last minute, when their maid-of-honour and photographer was back from travelling to her destination weddings for the season. It was a particularly poignant time for the couple as they were expecting their first child, so it was particularly emotional to be able to celebrate their wedding and pregnancy announcements at the same time.

Vintage Meets Rockabilly Wedding in Brazil

High school sweethearts Camila and Vinicius wanted to combined their love of vintage, music and rockabilly styling for their July wedding. They wanted the day to feel informal and enjoyable for their guests while not costing a lot of money. Marrying in Brazil, they also wanted to buck as many Brazilian wedding traditions as they could!

“The main inspiration for the wedding was vintage and rock culture”, began the bride. “As a source of reference, I used many alternatives weddings that I had seen on Rock n Roll Bride throughout the years. What’s more, my dress did not follow the regular rules of being long and conservative. I made my own headpiece which was a simple clip with metal spikes.”

The outdoor ceremony also began by ignoring tradition. “In Brazil, bridesmaids and groomsmen don’t walk up the aisle with the bride and groom”, she explained. “We decided to mix a Brazilian ceremony with some of the English and American concepts that we’d been inspired by on Rock n Roll Bride. The ceremony was held outdoors in a beautiful, but simple, venue. We had a large house in the background and the altar was placed on a cute garden with natural plants.”

Music and Art Inspired Brazilian Wedding with a Flash Mob! (17)

Mary and Caio lived next door to each other for twelve years before they had their first date! For their wedding they brought together everything they love; art, music, friends, family, dĂ©cor and vintage. They had an art gallery of Mary’s paintings, an old Volkswagen in the fields, five bands (which had the groom playing in all of them!), friends leading their ceremony, craft beer, dĂ©cor items from their house… and they partied for nine hours straight!

“I’m a painter, just like my father and my grandfather,” began Mary, “so in the long corridor at the main entrance of our wedding venue, we hung up more than 40 paintings and turned it into an art gallery. We wanted the first impression people had of our wedding to be related to art and for them to get to know more about my family heritage. We also had 14 paintings inside the main dancing hall.”

Isabela and Felipe’s Brazilian wedding had a casual and boho vibe. They were married at a concert venue in Sao Paulo. The day was simply a mash up of things they both liked.

“We didn’t want anything uniform or traditional”, said the bride. “Our venue, Centro Cultural Rio Verde in Sao Paulo was not a usual wedding location so that was different too. It’s a place where lots of independent concerts happen. About three years ago, when we’re just starting to see each other, we went to a concert there and commented that it’d be pretty cool to get married there. That comment was never forgotten!”

Colourful and Romantic Wedding In Rio de Janeiro

Colourful and Romantic Wedding In Rio de Janeiro (47)

Rayana and Guilherme’s Brazilian wedding was full of glorious details! “We wanted to have a big party with everything and everyone that makes us happy”, began the bride. “Weddings in Brazil are usually too formal and full of traditions that don’t have much to do with us, so we decided to do only the things that made sense. We had a religious ceremony because it was important for my family, but we also wanted the party to be fun and full of unusual details. Also, since we work with books, we wanted to incorporate them in the wedding dĂ©cor.”

“One of my main concerns was that not to have a dĂ©cor that was too ‘girlie’ so we decided to put different elements, such as the golden dinosaurs and geometric structures. Having our wedding in the morning was something different as well, since most of the weddings in our country take place in the evening.”

Bohemian Folk Wedding in Brazil

Juliana and Fabio’s wedding was held at MansĂŁo Atrium in Brazil. Their bohemian and folk themed day was actually completely inspired by a wedding they saw on Instagram!

“Our idea was  to make things as simple as possible”, said the bride. “We didn’t want our wedding to have a luxurious or classical feel. We wanted everyone to be themselves. Aesthetically our wedding may seem pretty similar to others, but in Brazil it was a very big challenge to have an organic simple wedding. We wanted it to feel like a big family dinner or a weekend camping.”

The ceremony was held outdoors. “The pastor who officiated our ceremony is a personal friend of the groom which made made it much more personal. The words he used were kind and gave a special touch and fun to the ceremony. I would advise other couples to have someone they know conduct their ceremony. If they know you and your history it will make it so much more meaningful”.

Outdoor Brazilian Wedding with the Bride in a Corset

Lais and Ale met when she was just 14 and he was 17. Even though they were young, they became boyfriend and girlfriend quickly and moved in together three years later! They were married in Brazil in October.

“I had tons of ideas for our wedding, but only one was right for us: a morning outdoor wedding”, Lais began. “Most of my references came from foreign weddings though because weddings in Brazil tend to be very traditional. We were focused on having personal details and avoided 90% of what the wedding market in Brazil has to offer. The Atelier Raviere, who made our stationery, was an amazing company to work with. They helped us choose our colour palette and developing all the visual identity of the wedding.

The bride’s mother made her wedding dress and she wore a corset from Madame Sher over it. “Since high school I have always been a corset fanatic”, she explained, “I always like to wear them so they’ve kind of become my trademark. I wanted to feel like myself on our wedding day so I knew I had to wear one. My mom made me a classical shaped dress and I wore a black leather corset on top. It combined sexiness and elegance and I felt like Cinderella with a twist!”

Happy Friday! I think this colourful and fun wedding all the way from Chile is the perfect way to head into the weekend, don’t you? After their chapel ceremony, Trini and Fe hosted their reception at the bride’s parent’s home. They had a small budget, $7000, so they did practically everything themselves.

“Our wedding theme was vintage rock”, began the bride. “All the decorations and stationery were handmade by the groom. Our main colours were lilac, blue, green, orange and pink and our bridesmaids and groomsmen all had outfits based on one of the five colours. On the tables we had bottles and homemade lampshades as decorations, we had a wall with photos of us growing up on, and we had a Gibson guitar with our wedding logo on it.”

hot air balloon wedding in brazil (89)

Julia and Rogerio met on a plane. They were both going to a music festival in São Paulo. After chatting for the whole flight, they had a second chance meeting the the middle of 20,000 others at the festival itself. Then they were sat besides each other on the flight home. I guess you could say it was fate! As they met in their air, they wanted this to be reflected in their wedding, three years later.

“We wanted our wedding to celebrate our love and history”, said Julia. “We combined where we meet each other, where we fell in love and where we got married into our theme. We had a balloon flight between the mountains and the blue sky with our friends and family. ‘Love in the clouds’ was the inspiration.”
