Susan’s Paint The Dress Shoot

Susan wanted to get back into her wedding dress for a memorable photo shoot for her anniversary. When she married Jesse 10 years ago they had some trouble with their photographer (who, ahem, ended up in jail) so although they received some 4 x 6 prints, they didn't manage to get an album or any photo enlargements made. They were also pretty unhappy with the portraits of Susan from the images they did get, and none of them showed off her beautiful dress in all it's glory.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 6 months, you can't have failed to notice that tonight is The Rock n Roll Bride PARRRTAAAY. Oh sweet baby Jesus (thanks for my new favourite non-cuss Jasmine. Gareth said I've been swearing too much recently...whoops.) Aaaaanyway, I am so excited. Nervous but bloody bloody excited. As you can imagine today I'm a little on the busy side organising party 'stuff' so they'll only be one post today...but it's a gooden and it means you get Thursday Treats a little earlier in the day than usual...woo-to-the-hoo!

Christina & Sybrina were married in their own back garden in Vegas. Christina wore a beautiful dress by Ouma Clothing and Sybrina wore a sharp suit. The couple are pretty active in their local LGBT community and so wanted to use their connections to do it 'right' and create a wedding that was perfect for them and their friends.

I love Elbie... love love love! She is the hair & make up genius behind many of my photo shoots, including the Mad Hatter Beach Shoot, the Tattoo Revolution magazine shoot and my rainbow hair for the Big Fat Wedding Blogger's Photo Shoot! Elbie is one hell of a cool chick, so when I heard the she was getting married in South Africa this March I pretty much laid claim to blogging her wedding before she'd even had the chance to tell me anything about it!

Mary & Sam’s Private Bay Wedding

Mary & Sam were married in a private bay in Picton, New Zealand. Their biggest challenge for their wedding was that they lovingly (and painstakingly) restored a 70 foot boat to transport their guests from the ceremony site to their reception at Herzog Winery! "Working to restore a non-functioning 70-foot launch so we could transport our guests was... well, it was Rock n Roll in fact that we had no sleep, too much to do, and had to call in our amazing family to bail us out! We tried to forget about the industry noise around weddings and instead focused on the fact it's just the thing that happens before you're married, so let's have a party focused on love instead."

Today is Gareth's & my 'marriversary.' We were married 3 years ago on our 6 year anniversary (yeah, we kept the date the same...so much easier to only have to remember one date!) Happy 3 year marriversay/9 year anniversary baby. I love you all of it and I couldn't do this without you.

Alena & Geoff were married at The Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara. Their fancy dress, circus themed day was certainly a show-stopper, especially as the majority of their guests really got into the swing of it and made a real effort with their outfits. "We invited our guests to dress up, and that made them fully participate in all aspects of the circus/carnival wedding," they told me. "We had 2 guests as 'door clowns' who checked people in, gave them clown noses and flags. We had a popcorn man in the lobby of the ceremony giving out popcorn bags. We borrowed huge circus banners from other friends and used them to decorate for the reception."

When it came to shooting Rachael (from Maui) and Tim's (from Florida) engagement shoot, where else could be as perfect as on the beach? "These guys are all about the beach and rock the surf style," said photographer Wendy Laurel. "I mean who else wears their bikini on their engagement shoot? The shoot was at one of their favorite beaches on Maui, Ironwoods, and in the Honolua Valley (next to the famed Honolua Bay). Both places are on the upper west side of Maui where lots of good surf and a large surf community can be found."

Taking the time to put together a selection of your favourite wedding (and non wedding) images will give you a strong and cohesive idea about what your ideal wedding theme or colour scheme will look like. They will also help you visualise what works together and what doesn't. Above is one I made using BHLDN's new online moodboard tool - looks like my next wedding will be a sea-green and peach theme, who knew?!

Today is my favourite day of the year...because to day is my BIRTHDAY! I'm 27 today and I know people say this every year, but I feel old...old and very grown up! This last year has been pretty mental and my life has been flipped on it's head in the last 12 months, but I've got a feeling that this next year is going to be even better. Who's with me? Because of this day of celebration, this week's Thursday Treats is a little shorter than usual. In essence, today I plan to mostly be found eating ice cream and sushi (not together though...), opening presents (I hope), going shopping (undoubtedly) and generally treating myself a lot (no question.)

Vanessa & Brian’s Bicycle Themed Wedding

Vanessa & Brian's DIY wedding has a vintage bicycle theme because cycling was what brought them together. The day was held at Simpson House, Kansas City and started with an intimate ceremony on the gardens. Vanessa walked down the aisle to "I Will" by the Beatles, performed acoustically by a local couple. After the kiss, everyone rang bells that were placed on their chairs. They also decorated their venue in a way personal to them. Wheat was an important decorative element as Vanessa's Dad was a wheat farmer and passed away when she was young. She even has a tattoo of wheat on her arm in memory of him.

This beautiful and creative photo shoot was put together by the ladies behind Dottie Creations and Dottie Photography. It was inspired by their love of the great British seaside. Mandy & Zoe, the ladies behind both companies, styled, crafted and photographed the whole shoot themselves. They made all the awesome signage, the beautiful table decorations and the even the biscuits.

Jaclyn & Joseph's Californian wedding was certainly one with rock star credentials. With colours like bright pink, lime green, gold & cream all mashed together, the result was sure to be a spectacular one. "My inspiration was to create a fairy tale wedding with and Alice in Wonderland twist", explained Jaclyn. I" wanted both elements of shabby chic and edgy to blend together. It came together beautifully. Our wedding was breathtaking. All of the details like the cake, flowers, craft tables and accessories made this wedding become extra stylish. The food was a priority for me too and I think it had a rock star element as well. We served a late night snack bar for our guests as well as a candy bar for take home favors. Each of these elements made our wedding unique and memorable. We had funky furniture for our reception that we rented from Blue Print Studios. This furniture was bold and bright and created a rock star feel for the reception. A one of the best ideas that our guests loved was our photo booth. It was the highlight of the late evening. Our photo booth company had so many awesome accessories for people who wanted to get funky. From boas to beer glasses it was awesome. I wish we could do it all over again!"

After attending many formal and traditonal weddings, Kirenia & Matt decided that they wanted something different for their own. They wanted be themselves - to have fun and dance all night long rather than having a fancy sit-down wedding. They both love rock music and dancing and so wanted to reflect this in their day.
