Happy New Year! Rock n Roll Bride: An Overview

happy new year portrait

I know many of you have been reading for a while, but with a new year rolling in it’s always nice to start afresh and take the time to reintroduce myself to anyone who might be new around these parts. I published an Idiot’s Guide to Rock n Roll Bride this time last year, so if you haven’t already you should definitely check it out to help you get your bearings. A few things have changed since January 2014 (and not just my hair colour!) so I’m quickly going to go over them now.

Blog schedule

During the week the blog is updated twice daily with lovely real weddingsadvice columns and general inspiration for alternative brides (and grooms!) There’s also a couple of updates over the weekend too.

My posts go up at 8am and 3pm GMT but I’d suggest subscribing via RSS or joining me (and 143,000 others!) on my Facebook page so you never miss a beat. You can also find me on all usual social platforms: Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

Over the past few years I’ve also been actively writing about running your own small business in The Green Room area of my site. It’s been a blast and I’ve loved doing it, but I’ve decided to let it take a bit of a back seat for 2015. It’s not being scraped completely, but it will probably be updated a less often. Why? Well, because…

I’m publishing a magazine!

I am now the Editor in Chief of the UK’s newest wedding magazine! Over the past three years I’ve written and self-published an annual magazine, but it was recently picked up by Giraffe Media (who also publish Wedding Ideas Magazine) who are putting my baby into REAL LIFE SHOPS.

The bi-monthly mag costs £4.99 and will now be sold in WHSmiths, Morrisons and independent newsagents (with more to be added soon). For my readers that aren’t in the UK, or those of you that would prefer it to be delivered straight to your door, you’ll be able to buy a subscription online SOON. The details of this are still being finalised but I’ll share the link with you the second I have it – I promise! This is all HUGE and incredibly exciting and I can’t bloody wait for you to see it. Issue 1 is in stores on January 8th!!!!

Here’s the cover of issue 1. Isn’t it AWESOME?! (If I do say so myself!)

Oh and there may well be a launch party at some point too! Would you want to come?!

The Blogcademy

But that’s not all (yes, I’m a busy gal)! Alongside my besties Gala Darling and Shauna Haider, I am one of ‘the headmistresses’ of The Blogcademy. It’s a two-day workshop which helps aspiring bloggers and small business owners harness the power of the internet to turn their business dreams into a reality!

Since our launch in 2012 we’ve taught nearly 1000 people how to get started, make waves, live their passion and MAKE MONEY doing what they love… and we ain’t stopping yet!

G’Day Mate!

Janneke Storm

My head is buzzing from everything that’s been going on this past week. It’s been FULL ON. I’ve been on the road with The Blogcademy, on the other side of the planet in fact, teaching classes in Sydney and Melbourne. Tomorrow we have to get up and 5am for our flight to Auckland to do it all again too! It’s been kinda crazy but that hasn’t stopped us squeezing in some beach time at Bondi and a free live broadcast from our hotel room!

If you missed said livestream, you can watch the ridiculousness below. In it we tell you all about our accommodation mishap, spill the beans on The Blogcademy Online (OMG soooo exciting!) and answer a ton of viewer questions about blogging and business. It’s as fun and silly as you might imagine and you should definitely hit play!

The Blogcademy Online is Coming!!

BLOGCADEMY_ONLINE_LIVESTREAM

Ever since we launched The Blogcademy workshop, we’ve had people asking – no begging! – us to offer an online version. So many of you are unable to travel to attend an in-person event but that doesn’t mean you didn’t want in on the action.

At first we weren’t sure if it would work – one of the most magical parts of the class is connecting with other business owners and working together over those two days. But two years and over 700 attendees later, we’ve realised that there is so much to still learn from taking the course digitally, and absorbing the info at your own pace.

On Monday 1st December Gala, Shauna and I will be doing a FREE livestream to tell you all the details on The Blogcademy Online. If you have questions, we’ve got answers! We may even have time to answer some more general blogging and business queries too.

The livestream will be taking place on Monday at 10pm UK time (2pm in LA, 5pm in NYC, and 9am Tuesday in Melbourne).

The Blogcademy New York & Washington DC

the blogcademy dc 2014_18

So many things have changed about The Blogcademy since our first class in October 2012. The in-person syllabus has been improved and refined, we’ve added our Home School offerings and we’ve launched a Level 2 workshop!

Despite all these additions and changes, there’s always been one thing that’s remained a constant: our attendees are just as wonderful now as they were in that very first class.

The thing I love the most about teaching The Blogcademy, as clichéd as it sounds, is meeting our ‘blogcadettes’. Each person has their own path, their own unique story, and their very specific goals for their blog and businesses. They’re passionate. They’re individual. They’re weird and they’re wonderful in equal (glorious!) measure. I’m so grateful that this venture has pushed me out of my comfort zone, got me travelling the world and meeting so many phenomenal people along the way.

Party Time, Excellent! The Blogcademy Mixer in London

Blogcademy Mixer-Lisa Jane Photography-017

I’ve been in love with The Roost for years. I’ve featured many super cool weddings that have been held there, but I was yet to have the pleasure to actually visit it myself. Every time I’d get submitted an event in the former Victorian pub in Dalston, I’d pore over the photos, eagerly eyeing up the gorgeous furniture, the quirky décor and the eclectic mix of art work and props that are littered around the space,

I was desperate to find an excuse to go there, so when my Blogcademy babes and I came up with the idea of hosting a party in London, The Roost was first on my list of places to contact.

I mean, look at this place…
