Victoriana meets Halloween Inspired Scottish Wedding

Bill and Julie did not want to confined to one theme for their October 2019 wedding, so took many elements of things they enjoy and paired them with traditional elements that resonated with them to craft the day of their dreams.

From a gothic inspired wedding dress to the use of Scottish wedding traditions, Halloween touches to a sparkler ‘confetti shot’, they used lots of different elements to make the day their own. They also wanted a day that was fun for their guests – and why not give them an excuse to dress up, too!? They stated costume desires on their invites and included the tagline ‘be as devilishly dapper as you dare!’

Bill and Julie set the bar high with their own outfits; Julie wore a black lace gothic-inspired Sottero and Midgley dress, styled with antique jewellery and headpieces from Etsy. Bill rocked a suitably Victoriana inspired ensemble from Violent Delights, and their bridesmaids wore ASOS dresses paired with burgundy lace chokers (made with off-cuts from the dresses) and tartan wraps.

Tim Burton Meets The Addams Family Wedding on Halloween

Getting married on October 31st, Rachael and Olly were always going to have a Halloween inspired day. In particular, they were influenced by Tim Burton and The Addams Family. Rachael chose her dress because it reminded her of something Dita Von Teese or Morticia Addams might wear, and Olly’s outfit, pieced together from various places, was reminiscent of something Gomez Addams might be seen in.

The Nightmare Before Christmas cake and all the flowers were made by friends and family members. For the invites and paper goods, they went DIY too, ordering little coffins and putting green chocolate zombie fingers with tags on for a Save the Date. The invites themselves were made to look like a Ouija board. “We saved a lot of money by doing these ourselves, plus who wouldn’t want to eat a zombie finger!?” Rachael said. “We also saved a lot with our friend Debbie doing the flowers and Aunty Chrissy making our dream wedding cake. They both did an amazing job. We also had constant help from our family buying trinkets and being absolute gems helping to decorate everything. We are so lucky to have their help, it meant a lot that everyone really got involved.”

Mid-Century Meets Elegant Gothic Romance

When Noelle found her wedding dress (which was only £315!), it inspired everything else for her October wedding to Brian. They wanted the day to have a day with the same elegant gothic vibe and for them that meant a black and gold colour scheme with mid-century leanings rather than Hot Topic vibes!

“We both love the spookier and darker things in life so we wanted that to come across in the classiest way possible”, she began. “My florist asked me what I meant by gothic when I pitched the floral ideas and I had to be clear that we weren’t looking for ‘Hot Topic goth’ so, no purple, stripes or skulls.”

Gatsby Freak Show Ball on Halloween

This 20s style Halloween wedding started with an intimate ceremony in The French Quarter Wedding Chapel and their officiant was dressed up as Beetlejuice! LJ and Patrick were then joined by a crowd of friends and family in a traditional New Orleans Second Line parade to House of Blues, where theirs guests were met by peacock girls, sword swallowers, aerialists, and palm readers. They then had a second wedding ceremony onstage, complete with lights, smoke effects and confetti canons!

Originally they set a budget of $25,000 but ended up going significantly over that to have their dream day, “In the end we spent $75,000!” they said. “But we wanted the most unique experience we could give our guests. First off, it was a Halloween MORNING wedding (a Wednesday morning) and the ceremony was at 10:00 AM. We had a brunch themed meal with no assigned seats, only three reserved tables – one for my family, one for his and one for our
work.”

Budget Friendly, Movie Themed Halloween Wedding with Fancy Dress Galore!

Josh and Shandre weren’t afraid of being a little kitsch and over-the-top with their wedding theme. They wanted to tie together a movie theme, with Halloween, while keeping a very home-y atmosphere. They asked their family and friends to dress up as their favourite movie or Halloween character so it felt less like a traditional wedding and more like a house party celebration, which is exactly what they achieved!

Held at the Tuscana Conference Centre in Midrand, South Africa in October 2018, the couple had a $3.5k budget to bring their big day to life. They undertook a lot of DIY and concentrated on the things that mattered! Their biggest expense was the food, from their favourite Indian restaurant, and they didn’t spend ages concentrating on getting ‘perfect’ photos, instead just stopping for a few formal portraits before being fulled immersed in being present in their day.

Till Death Do Us Party: A Colourful Scottish Halloween Wedding

Both Jade and Jamie are big fans of Halloween so knew they wanted to get married at this time of year and base the theme on that. Their initial concern was that they didn’t want anything looking too tacky and more like a Halloween party, so they focused on a mix of neon, tartan, sequins, skulls and brightly coloured pumpkins for a fresh take on theme.

They used Pinterest, Instagram and of course, Rock n Roll Bride as massive sources of inspiration. The phrase ‘Till Death’ stuck with them from the beginning, with Jamie even DIY’ing a massive neon sign as well as using it in their vows and then getting it tattooed on their arms shortly after the wedding!

Halloween, Gothic Literature & Fairytale Inspired Wedding with some Unexpected Guests!

Lucy is obsessed with autumn and Halloween so always knew she wanted to get married in October. She also loves to read, and Toby is an English teacher so together they came up with the idea of having a gothic literature themed wedding with touches of Halloween and fairytale aesthetics thrown in for good measure!

They spent quite a while looking for the perfect venue but when they found Butley Priory in Suffolk they were so inspired and immediately came up with lots of ideas of how to theme the already amazing 14th Century former monastery. “We did spend a long time finding the perfect venue,” explained Lucy, “but after that everything else fell into place really quickly. We loved planning so much!”

Minimal Halloween Wedding with 90s Influences

Jessica and JR had a two-day wedding. Their legal courthouse ceremony was held on Halloween with their big reception party a couple of days later at Passalino’s, an events space in Downtown Louisville. They wanted their wedding to be like no other Halloween weddings, to them that meant keeping things minimal, elegant and modern – no themed props, pumpkins or skull decorations here!

The pair, who had known each other for a while, got engaged a week after their first date!! “After a decade of friendship, I agreed to go on a date with JR to dinner and a large fireworks display”, Jessica began. “We quickly realised we were in love. There were literally fireworks. Not wanting to waste any more time, he proposed over drinks at our favourite wine bar a week later and I said yes!”

Autumnal City Wedding with Mexican & Halloween Touches

Although Gina and Mark’s autumn wedding included some seasonal details – skulls, pumpkins etc – most of all they wanted their day to reflect them. They included their love of Mexico (and Mexican food!) and DIYed a-plenty to make their day feel their own.

They decided to do a first look, followed by a first pint at the pub next to the registry office (where they also had their second date) before their ceremony. Doing things this way round also meant they could do all the photos before everything kicked off giving them the most time to celebrate with their loved ones.

Autumnal, Halloween Themed Wedding with Custom Made Tombstones!

Bridey and Jon spent just £5000 on their incredible October wedding in 2018, but you’d never be able to tell! They DIYed up a storm and chose venues that were inexpensive in order to stay within budget.

“I was never one to dream of a big expensive day,” explained the bride (who, by the way, has the best name ever!) “so we flexed our DIY skills and had an extravagant honeymoon to the Hard Rock Hotel in Tenerife instead!”

A Gothic Bridal Meets Boudoir Shoot

It’s September (WHAT!?) which means its basically Autumn and nearly October which can only mean one thing… HALLOWEEN IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER! I know you’re just as excited as we are, which is why we’re pleased as spiked punch to be sharing this spooky yet sexy goth bride shoot with you today.

Organised entirely by photographer Heather Pippin based in St. Louis, we know you’re going to love this one just as much as we do. Fierce doesn’t even cover it.

The relatively simple shoot took place at an old church turned intimate wedding venue called Salem Baum Church in Waterloo, IL. The smoke, the stunning Maggie Sottero black wedding dress and a whole lotta sass make this shoot what it is – no bells, whistles or over the top props and ‘stuff’ required.

Halloween Themed Wedding with Sword Swallowers, Drag Acts and A Costume Contest Reception!

The inspiration behind Kris and Landon’s big day was the fact that Kris has never been to a Halloween party… no, really! “It’s the best holiday because your only obligation is to dress like an ass and then get candy for it. So we said screw it and threw a Halloween party,… but you know, just got married in the beginning.” Kris explained.

Costume party aside, the vibe they wanted was ‘dinner and a show’… with some good old fashioned freaky Halloween fun! They took their theme and ran with it. As entertainment, they had a sideshow act perform sword swallowing, walking on glass and a bed of nails act while their guests dined. Kris’ brother had recently started competing in drag competitions and agreed to do a number after dinner. It was followed by a costume contest, which their friends and family embraced wholeheartedly.

Autumnal, Halloween & Geode Themed Wedding with Grandma’s Cookie Recipe

Madeline and Patrick wanted their day to be the perfect combination of everything they love. Madeline is studying to become a geologist, so they incorporated lots of geodes, rocks and other fun references to geology throughout their day. “We are also a Halloween obsessed family,” she explained, “so it only felt right to get married as close to Halloween as possible with a bunch of spooky details.”

They included a lot of unique, handmade details from themselves and talented friends and family – from the homemade agate wedding arch by Madeline’s dad to her veil by her mum. They had homemade wildflower seed bombs and Halloween candy bags as wedding favours. They used rocks as place names that they’d spent forever collecting, and hand-lettered pumpkins for signage. Their guests got to drink from a different coloured glass goblet that the couple had spent years hunting for in the thrift stores. They made a Polaroid guest book in lieu of a photo booth. It was important to the couple that they had full creative control over one of the most important days of their lives.
