Knowing they wanted something a little different, Brit and Matt paired their loves to create a beautiful day at a beautiful venue, filling it with cars, pumpkins and skeletons. Meeting on Bumble, the couple opted for a Catholic ceremony and a completely personal reception, creating the perfect blend.

Brit explained, “Things were very traditional for the ceremony portion of the wedding, my dad walking me down the aisle to Matt was so special and I tear up just thinking about it – two of my favourite men! But for our reception, we knew that some of our décor, especially skeletons, were a little out of the ordinary. Instead of shying away, we leaned into it and it paid off!”

The couple had a $35,000 wedding budget, but as a graphic designer, Brit was keen to put her talents to good use for their special day. She told us, “I put my blood, sweat and tears into all of our wedding stationery and décor. It was one of my favourite projects that I’ve ever worked on. And the best part of the wedding planning process was seeing it all come together on the day.”

“We didn’t want a traditional banquet hall or golf course wedding, and our reception was so much fun. We were willing to pay more for something unique, and we found that in Packard Proving Grounds, an automotive historical site in Detroit, Michigan. We saved money buying our own plates and silverware, and using shop towels for our napkins. It was simple, but worked perfectly!”

The couple relished spending time with friends and family and finally being husband and wife. Brit told us her best piece of planning advice would be to, “Try not to focus on what can go wrong. Take a break from planning every once in a while! Your wedding is about you and your love, so do whatever you can to make it uniquely your own. Oh, and we would have ordered more pizza for the late night snack! Always order more pizza!”
