“Up” Inspired Portuguese Wedding with 3000 Balloons!

Three words: Up-inspired balloons! Okay, loads more words: Camelia and Tim’s wedding was a dreamy laid back affair in a stunning Portuguese retreat where the focus was on fun, friends and family.

Camelia and Tim knew they wanted to get married outside and for it to be totally informal, which took their search abroad. Having visited Sintra in Portugal for a festival called Boom, once they found The Quinta they knew it was the perfect place for them to get married (before they’d even visited!) A beautiful venue in its own right, they totally knocked it to a whole new level with 3000 brightly coloured balloons tumbling out of the window onto the lawn to resemble the house from Disney Pixar’s “Up”.

Although there wasn’t an overriding theme, their wedding celebration had a total festival feel. Having met at a festival and first realised the spark during another, the whole weekend focused on laid back vibes and great times. “We’d been told by other couples that the wedding day goes fast, so with this in mind we decided to have a three-day wedding (a bit like a festival!) so we could maximise our time with our nearest and dearest. We also like to party!” Camelia explains.

Retro Kitsch ‘Date Night at Disneyland’ Wedding

With its late 50s/ early 60s fashion and and a sugary pastel palette, Megan and Matthew’s super cute Disney-infused wedding day is a retro-lover’s dream. If you are Disney-obsessed, you’re going to be in heaven over this one!

Their theme was ‘Date Night at Disneyland,’ based on the weekend dance parties held at Disneyland in the 1950s. The bride said, “We grew up at Disney parks, got engaged at Epcot, and travelled to many Disney parks together. It would feel wrong for our wedding to be about anything else. Visually, we were really inspired by the late 1950s/ early 1960s, which was the golden age of Disneyland. Our single biggest inspiration was the artist Mary Blair and her seminal creation It’s a Small World. The dedication to our theme is what set our wedding apart. We made almost everything ourselves – the stationery, the centrepieces, all the décor. My parents were really worried with how outrageous everything was going to be because when you tell people, ‘We’re having a Disney wedding’, they expect a big Cinderella dress and everything with Mickey on it.”

The bride said the ceremony was supposed to be outside on a deck at their venue, the Woman’s Club of Portsmouth, but the weather had other plans, “I had made pink and yellow tulle curtains to hang over us, and we purchased large balloons to guide the way. Unfortunately, it rained. A lot. We had to make the call to have the wedding inside, which ended up being OK. We kept the ceremony short and sweet. We wrote our own vows and sobbed the whole time. My bottom false eyelashes were all the way down my cheek by the end. Matthew’s vows were really thoughtful and sweet, and mine were goofy, which is classic us! We were able to livestream the whole thing on Facebook for our friends and family that couldn’t make it, which was really nice.”

Rainbows, Disney & Rubber Ducks

They hoped their summer wedding would be relaxed and informal, but they still wanted to put a lot of effort into the decor and theme, so Trish and Steve chose things they liked (rainbows, Disney) and their starting point and then took everything one step at a time.

“Our wedding theme pretty much grew organically as the planning went along”, began the bride. “We struggled to pick one colour and that’s where the multi-coloured/ rainbow idea came from. I have a massive obsession with Disney so that popped in and we both love rubber ducks so they made an appearance too! We knew we wanted to make the day about us so tried to incorporate little aspects of our characters and personalities into the day.”

“Our cake was a bright rainbow coloured, multi layered cake and we added bride & groom rubber ducks (we found them in a shop in Amsterdam in 2016!) to complete the look. The flowers were bright and fun! We asked our florist, Beau-K, for gerberas for the buttonholes and I also also wanted some bright ribbons on my bridal bouquet but we left the rest up to them. We also had loose gerberas in some glass bottles on the tables (which we collected) and then two big wreaths on the barn doors!

This Fairytale Wedding Gives Us All the Disney Feels

This fairytale wedding has to have some of the sweetest Disney inspired touches we’ve ever seen. From the centrepieces (each table was named after a movie and the props on the tables matched), the Disney inspired wall hanging favours and the subtle Disney inspired cake (those colours are just perfect!) complete with a with a glitter ‘to infinity and beyond’ topper.

“Our wedding theme was Disney all over”, began Laura who married Dean in June. “Everybody knows my favourite thing is Disney and I wanted to have a wedding that was attached to me and showed my personality come through.”

“The centrepieces were all Disney themed each to a different Disney film.  My mum and I collected everything over the 19 months we were engaged. We searched charity shops and eBay. The guest book table had an UP! theme and I bought an MDF model UP! house that I painted and built together from America. Our memorial table (with photos of our loved ones that have passed) was Winnie the Pooh themed.”

Jordan & Jordan’s Enchanted, Bohemian & Disney Wedding

Well this is something you don’t see everyday – a bride and groom with exactly the same name! But the unconventional aspects of this couple’s big day don’t end there, their Texas wedding was packed full of quirky and unique details.

“Our theme was an an enchanted bohemian fairy garden meets dramatic Rock n Roll wedding”, said the bride. ” The song and aesthetic of Kari Jobe’s The Garden album was the biggest inspiration to us.”

They hosted both their ceremony and reception at their church which is also where they first met in 2012! ” My uncle performed the ceremony and wrote personalised vows for us”, the bride continued. “Our ceremony was lighthearted and fun. Everyone thought the groom was going to pass out though! During communion, we played the lyric video for Kari Jobe’s The Garden and utilised the growing ivy aesthetic to complement our décor.”

Retro & Disney Inspired Wedding on Southend Pier

Charlotte and Jack’s wedding had a really unique location – Southend Pier! The day had a retro theme with Disney references throughout. “Our wedding theme was ‘Grease meets the Great British Seaside!'”, said the bride. “We were inspired by lots of wedding blogs, especially Rock n Roll Bride! We saw so many couples who had a day that reflected them and that’s what inspired us to plan a wedding that people would describe as completely us. Also, we saw so many weddings that looked like they and the guests were having a total blast, so we wanted to have a day full of fun!”

The wedding was held at the Royal Pavilion which is located a mile out to sea! “Pretty much every guest has said that they’ve never been to a wedding like ours before. Lots of people thought it was really cool that we were getting married on the pier. I also think the amount of handmade decorations is something that makes our wedding really different too, and so much of it was made by the Groom’s crafty mum that it was really special.”
