When Sparks Fly: A Sparkly Meets Industrial Wedding… with Taco Trucks!

There were so many sparks on Dan and Annaliese’s first date that they decided to theme their wedding after them! “We were living about an hour apart at the time so that first date was a bit reluctant to be honest,” said Annaliese. “Although I thought Dan looked cute and funny, we both just thought the distance was a stumbling point. I jokingly said to a friend that I’d probably only go on one date with Dan, unless ’Sparks are showering the floor like a welding shop’.” Fortunately, that was exactly how she felt about that first date!

It was fitting, then, that they chose a former steel works for their big day, where they held both their ceremony and their reception for over 300 guests. When it came to thinking about the inspiration for the day, they made choices knowing that they wanted their day to be a celebration of love, full of sparkles and one big party.

Autumnal Country & Western Themed Wedding

Craig and Christina originally planned to marry in Vegas, but when that couldn’t happen, they brought the Americana vibes to the UK! They wanted a relaxed and informal feel to their day, reminiscent of what you’d achieve in Vegas or the American mid-West.

Instead of traditional sit-down catering for their reception, they hired a wood-fire pizza oven. They had a ‘cake smash’ instead of a cake cutting, in honour of their Americana theme. They decorated with vintage-looking whiskey barrels and wagon wheels as decorations for a barn-dance feel, gave wooden cowboy boot bottle openers as favours and had plenty of country music on their playlist.

They had a traditional church wedding in the same church that Christina’s parents married in thirty years previously “If we couldn’t get married in Vegas, I knew I wanted to get married at Kislingbury church,” Christina explained. “It meant a lot to me to have the ceremony there as it was almost 30 years to the day that my parents married there.”

Glam Nashville Elopement with Dinner & a Drag Show!

Amy and Sonia don’t have the most conventional beginning to a relationship; they met while Amy was already married (to a man) but knew shortly after being introduced that she’d met her soulmate in Sonia. The couple chose their hometown of Nashville to elope in, simply because there’s nowhere else they’d rather have been.

“We wanted to become united in the city that united us,” explained Amy, “we loved the idea of having photos in front of all our favourite Nashville murals, and wanted it to be a day that was authentic to us, too.”

They were also inspired by old school Hollywood glam, with Amy wearing a dramatic low back, white sequin, floor length dress, paired with silver glitter pumps and old Hollywood waves and vintage rhinestone hairpins. Sonia carried on the glam by rocking rhinestone lapel pins and her own cowboy boots with her suit.

Vibrant & Colourful Wedding with a Crochet Bouquet

Rachael and Ross (no, not THOSE ones!) bonded over their mutual love of tattoos and alternative music while at work. Eighteen months of casual dating later, Ross proposed to Rachael in front of 4,500 people at the halftime of an ice hockey game! With a proposal like that, they knew they couldn’t do things by halves, so spent the following two years planning and saving to have the wedding of their dreams.

For them, this meant having a colourful alternative to a traditional style day. They knew they wanted a day as vibrant and colourful as them. “Bright colours make everyone happy” explained Rachael, “so why not give your guests additional happiness on an already happy day?!”

Vintage Inspired Asylum Chapel & London Pub Wedding with Floral Touches

Inspired by their love of vintage and times gone by, Maria and Ian had a theme-free but very vintage inspired wedding. They picked the Asylum Chapel in Peckham as their ceremony venue because loved the beauty in the decay of the deconsecrated church and the fact that it looks a bit like nature is taking it over.

“The ceremony was beautiful and Ian couldn’t keep his eyes off me for the whole time, which felt amazing”, began the bride. “Also, for some reason I hadn’t anticipated how wonderful to have everyone that we love under one roof together and getting to know each other.”

Although they didn’t want a themed wedding as such, but were very inspired by by-gone eras with the things they chose. “We wanted it to be authentic and not to be over fussy but paying close attention to detail, quality materials and working with fantastic people to create for the day. Using organic flowers was also important to us, but it wasn’t that easy to find! Issy and Bella were fantastic though. We ended up with beautiful scented bouquets with roses, dahlias, sweet peas, cosmos, hydrangea, veronica, olive, scented geranium sweet pea tendrils, silver lavender, chocolate mint, eucalyptus and astrancia.”

Colourful Sci-Fi & Bookish Themed Wedding with Dinosaurs & Back to the Future!

Lara and Alistair met on the internet in 2011. Although they’d lived in the same town forever, they didn’t have any mutual friends, so they’re very grateful to the free dating site they both took a punt on!

When it came to planning their day, Lara’s main source of inspo for the eighteen months in the lead up was none other than Rock n Roll Bride, of course! “I spent hours trawling through your site and magazine, completely in awe of how unashamedly themselves your previous couples were,” Lara said. “Rock n Roll Bride made it crystal clear to us that it was OK for us to have the day we wanted, and not one that everyone else expects you to have!”
