Wedding apps are a funny breed. We waited for years for someone to create a decent one, while small (and usually slightly buggy) ones hit the app stores in drips and drabs. But they all seemed to result in the same thing - system crashes and loud sighs of disappointment. Surely, having a space on your phone to plan your wedding, save your inspiration, keep tabs on your guest list and track your expenses couldn't be that hard to create, right!? Oh and we'd like it to be intuitive to use and to be gorgeously designed too please.Read more...

Advertising on blogs, specifically wedding blogs, is still quite a new and therefore alien concept to many businesses. Not a lot of people really understand it and simply think that flinging an advert or sponsored post up on a wedding blog will instantly conjure a sparkly magic wand that will send a squillion enquiries their way. I'm sorry to burst that bubble, but it doesn't really work like that. You have to know what you're doing, you have to have a strategy in place and you have to work and rework at it to keep your marketing campaign effective.Read more...

I'm not an expert of the history of weddings, but when you think about it, many wedding traditions are really quite odd. A tiered cake, putting your best friends in ill-fitting in matching dresses, an awkward dance in front of everyone you know, throwing a bouquet flowers at people's heads... odd.Read more...

Joelle & Jake's shoot was described to me as "intimate, organic and unique" by their photographer Anna Jones and I really couldn't say it any better. Somewhere between a boudoir, a day in the life and a wedding portrait shoot, these images that took my breath away as soon as I saw them. Perfectly honest and stunningly peaceful. They are just utterly, utterly beautiful and everything a couple shoot should be.Read more...

Those people taking the time to jump on Twitter to tell the world just how busy they are, or just how many new enquiries they have flooding are not the people running the most successful businesses. The people who are actually busy are way too rushed off their feet to be sat around on Twitter all day telling people about it.Read more...

Carnival themed weddings might be nothing new, but when I see one as top notch as Matthew & Jessica's I can't help but want to share it with you. That dress! Those bridesmaids! That location! It's just all so perfectly beautiful and utterly Rock n Roll.Read more...

I'm sure most of your will already know this, but last Summer we published issue two of our print magazine. Since then, and every day with out fail, my poor suffering Gareth has been packing and shipping each copy that's been ordered - by hand. There's no fancy behind the scenes action in our operation believe you me. He's become quite the regular feature in our local post office. I wonder if they take bets about what he's sending out in those shiny pink envelopes with such regularity.Read more...

This shoot, inspired by both vintage and vinyl elements was pulled together by wedding photographer Sarah Gomley. "I wanted to create a wedding shoot that would be relevant for passionate musicians on a tight wedding budget, so this vintage vinyl shoot features an array of DIY touches", she writes. "For a guest book, we used silver sharpie pens on vinyl records, framed to make hangable mementos for the happy couple. We also took small black-rimmed DVDs and printed stickers for their center to make handmade vinyl-themed table number signs. As decoration for the bride and groom, we hung 3x3 black and white photos on an all-black clothesline."Read more...

If there's one type of wedding I don't see a lot of, it's one with a medieval theme. So when Ben & Victoria's wedding - set in a castle and featuring owls, hawks and a castle shaped wedding cake - landed in my inbox I was thrilled to be able to feature it. The wedding was held at Castle Ladyhawke in Tuckasegee, North Carolina in November. "Ben proposed on a camping trip to the mountains in North Carolina", began the bride. "He conspired with my bridesmaid and photographer best friend to surprise me by proposing on top of a mountain with her taking photos. He also planned two surprises for me for our wedding that were really special. The castle had a tower with a flag pole on top and with the help of his best man he came up with a coat of arms flag for us as a new family together. He used our wedding colors and an owl sigil, to tie in with the bird that brought us our rings, our love for Harry Potter and the mascot of the university where we both met and graduated. It looked really cool at the castle and is something I'm happy to keep always."Read more...

I popped into London at the end of last week to see the girls at Fur Coat No Knickers and to pick the winner of our wedding dress contest (congratulations to Diana by the way!) On my way out of Kingly Court, where they're based, my eyes were drawn to this enticing looking shop. It could have been the pink lighting, the fluffy marshmallow poufs in place of chairs or the words 'medicinal marshmallows' emblazoned on the window that drew me in, but either way I was drawn.Read more...

Wedding bloggers like to throw phrases like 'laid back', 'low key' and 'budget-friendly' around like their going out of fashion. But when it comes to a wedding like Kit & Caz's, which took place in a youth hostel in the Peak District, there really are no other words. Their wedding was beautiful, utterly personal and a true reflection of the way they celebrate their love. No mess, no fuss, no pomp and circumstance and no pointless traditions. Oh no, this wedding was unpretentiousness personified. I love it.Read more...

It's something you tend to learn the hard way, but if I've learnt one thing recently it's that drama, especially public drama, is not only a huge waste of time and energy, but can suck the life right out of you. It's not good for anyone and just makes you look like a big moany old cow.Read more...

The colourful wedding of Melodie & Kurt was held at Hopewood Country House in Bowral, New South Wales. The bride designed her own wedding dress and glittered up her own shoes but the DIY didn't stop there - friends and family of the couple got stuck in wherever possible!Read more...

With a lifelong appreciation for classic vintage styling, a beautifully restored 1935 jazz club was clearly the perfect setting for Rebecca & Scott's Detroit wedding. "When we found Cliff Bells we knew we had to get married there", wrote the bride. "When choosing decor items, we were also careful careful to choose things that complimented the vintage vibe of the venue. We didn't want the décor to be too loud or overwhelming. My original design inspiration was the redesigned F. Scott Fitzgerald book covers by Coralie Bickford-Smith."Read more...

Ahh email. Without a doubt it is the biggest blessing and curse of the modern era. Nothing else has connected us so quickly whilst simultaneously frustrating us so entirely! Before I started the Green Room I had a series on the blog called 'post it notes' where each week I would share one 'note' about wedding planning and another with a short business tip. One of the most well received posts by a mile was one where I shared how I organise my insane inbox. It was less of a note though and more of a friggin' essay. But it was really popular and so today I thought I'd revisit it with extra tips and some more recent updates.Read more...

Unique wedding venues can be hard to come across in the UK, but Fiona & Jonny weren't going to take that lying down. They knew they wanted a memorable space for their union and so selected Victoria Baths in Manchester. "Victoria Baths is an Edwardian swimming baths (which is no longer used as baths, now a restoration project and arts/community venue)", wrote Fiona. "It was originally three big pools. Two of them remain and are empty – we got married in the deep end of the biggest one and had our reception on top of the other! It was boarded over with a sprung dance floor in the fifties (my granddad used to teach ballroom dancing in that room). The remaining smaller pool and the rest of building, which is pretty vast, was left for people to wander around and explore."Read more...
