Insane Italian Vintage Circus Wedding: Michelangelo & Francilla

Kat

Maison Pestea

September 3, 2013

Unlike so many Italian weddings that they'd been to before, Michelangelo and Francilla wanted a day that was big, ridiculous and most of all fun! They went for a vintage circus theme, and oh boy, they really did go all out on the theme! Francilla told me all about it, "In Italy it’s quite impossible to have a different wedding and not do everything traditionally. It’s so hard to get away from the 'rules' that everyone says you have to obey, but we worked hard to make sure we did! We would have never been happy to marry in this way, and luckily our families knew it!"

Amy and Steve got engaged while on a road trip around America and so an American themed wedding seemed like the most perfect option for them! These guys didn't go for a subtle homage though, they went all out! "Our wedding was a little slice of American pie", Amy began. "We got engaged two years ago on a road trip around the southern states of America. Steve got down on one knee over a BBQ of ribs and beer in the mountains of Virginia. It was the perfect setting and was amongst many aspects of that trip that made it one of our most memorable journeys together."

Sethers and Love

September 2, 2013

When you're looking through a set of wedding photos on a blog, do you ever wish they'd never end? They're so beautiful/ crazy/ awesome/ cool (or all of the above) that you want to see more, more more?! Well that's exactly how I felt the whole way through viewing Jordan and Charley's incredibly stunning desert wedding. Held at Sacred Sands bed and breakfast, this celebration was intimate, carefree and beautiful and they had the photographs to match.

Dr Who Wedding Inspiration

This shoot is certainly going to appeal to all you Whovians out there. Come on then, tell me, who's having Dr Who influences in their wedding? "Ever since I became a fan of Doctor Who I’d wanted to do a styled shoot and combine it with one of my other favourite things in life: weddings, of course!" explained photographer Kat Forsyth. "I’d seen a couple of Who-themed shoots around, but I always felt that none of them got it quite right; they were either really pretty, floral and sparkly, or a little too much like a cheesy costume party. I was sure that by assembling a hand-picked team of Doctor Who geeks (read: experts), we could come up with a shoot that not only captured the quirky and fun aspect of the show, but also the atmosphere."

Mid-Century Tabernacle Wedding: Fiona & David

August 30, 2013

Fiona and David's Kent wedding was influenced by the style of the 1940s through to the 1960s. "I think the whole day was defined by it really being a reflection of us as a couple", Fiona said. "We really didn't want an identikit, faceless, corporate feel. Also, we wanted it to be as relaxed as possible. We didn't want anyone to stand on ceremony or feel uncomfortable. We just wanted all the people closest to us there and to eat, drink, dance and have a lot of fun."

Vintage has become a bit of a dirty word in the wedding world. It's been overdone more than any trend' I've ever known... and in many cases pretty badly. But vintage weddings as a concept are beautiful and some of the most creative and beautiful weddings that I've featured have fallen under that 'vintage' banner. In fact vintage weddings are not limited to pearls, lace and mismatched crockery - they can be so much more than that, the only limit is your imagination.can be so much more than that, the only limit is your imagination.

Gold, Neon and Unicorn Wedding: Leilani & Jeremy

August 27, 2013

I'm not really sure if any other words could bring as much joy to me as 'gold', 'neon' and 'unicorn', which is why I pretty much leapt off my chair when I saw them decorating my inbox. Wedding photographer Kris Holland sure does know how to push my buttons! Leilani and Jeremy were married in July. Their ceremony was held outside, in Galena Creek, Reno to be exact, and their DIY reception was in Jeremy's grandparent's back garden.

Who the Hell Goes to Austin in August? The Blogcademy of Course!

When I suggested the idea of doing a Blogcademy in Austin in August Gala and Shauna looked at me like I'd gone totally mad. " You know it will be utterly boiling down there then? It's practically on the Equator!" they replied. "Ahh ya wimps, how hot can it really be?" I responded. Well more fool me because when we stepped off the plane last week and were greeted with 40°C+ temperatures, I'm finally understood what living the sun must feel like.

Casual Barn Wedding: Kate & Dan

Kat

Joanna Brown

August 26, 2013

Kate and Dan wanted a big celebration for their May wedding, but one that was also relaxed for their guests and a lot of fun. They wanted to involve them in the day as much as possible and not only had their guests bring cakes instead of gifts, which were eaten instead of a traditional wedding cake, but sent everyone a little packets of seeds with their invitations, asking them to grow the flowers and bring them along on the day. The crappy weather in the run up to the wedding meant that a lot of the flowers didn't grow very much but everyone still valiantly brought along their little seedlings to show the couple and to display at the wedding. Don't you just utterly love that idea?!

Thursday Treats: Jet Lag is a Drag

Kat

August 22, 2013

Austin was a short but eventful trip. We may have only been in the city for a few days, with two of them being hauled up in a warehouse space with no windows (it was beautiful though!) teaching The Blogcademy, but we still certainly made the most of our time there. We strolled down South Congress, ate extreme ice creams, walked for miles to get our B balloons filled with helium (in 40ºC heat - fun!) and ate more delicious Mexican food then can be considered healthy (although, PS just say no to queso!)
