Happy New year lovers! I hope you had the most joy-filled, relaxing festive period. Ours was super chilled. We did Christmas day with my family, New Year’s with our besties at their house and that was pretty much it! It was actually really nice to lay around, watch all the movies and have no responsibilities or major plans for two weeks! It’s certainly rested us (which we both needed) and has us sooo ready to attack 2019 with gusto!

Here’s a little sneak peek of what you’ll find inside. There are 11 brand new and never-seen-before real weddings with inspiration and ideas on how you can steal their style…
October 2007 was when I first started writing about weddings on the internet. As a newly engaged 23-year-old I was quickly disillusioned with the wedding world that I was presented with and although Gareth and I didn’t really know what we wanted for our wedding, we knew we didn’t want any of what the wedding magazines were showing us. Spend £30k? Travel in a horse and carriage? Wear a big poofy strapless dress and designer shoes? NO THANK YOU.
So, I started this blog to document planning our ‘alternative’ route to the alter. Looking back, and somewhat ironically, our wedding didn’t end up being that alternative really (after all, we didn’t have Rock n Roll Bride to guide us!) but what this toe-dip into blogging did teach me is that I was quickly obsessed with finding and re-sharing weddings that sauntered off the beaten path, weddings that showed the personality of the couple, and weddings that were, for the most part, seen as pretty ‘weird’.
When I first started publishing online, I never ever considered that this could be a career (for both Gareth and myself!) and I certainly could have never in my wildest fantasies have imagined that we’d have a print magazine, I’d have written and book and I’d still be doing it ELEVEN YEARS LATER – I mean, wow!
To celebrate this incredible milestone, and as a huge, enormous THANK YOU to everyone for supporting what we do, we’re doing our biggest giveaway ever! One lucky reader will win:
Yes yes yessss you read that right. I am SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED to finally tell you about this collaboration! I have been wanting to work with someone on a Rock n Roll Bride clothing range for a while (in fact, when I was doing my pre-book launch tease on Instagram so many of you guessed/hoped we were doing clothing!) So when I started chatting to my friend Jo of The Couture Company about some really beautiful jackets she was working on… well, I knew it was the perfect fit. We are launching this collection with one design, available in a few different ways.
The centrepiece of the range is the biker jacket, which is available in two colour and fabric options – a stunning rose gold or a classic black. You can order it in the most buttery soft genuine leather or high quality faux leather (full disclosure: the faux leather is completely vegan but the embroidery on the back does have a small amount of silk in it. Also, the faux leather is a bit more pure gold than rose gold, but it’s the closest colour match we could find in such a good quality faux). The lining is made from a shimmer soft satin in my signature shocking cerise pink and even the zippers and fastenings are beautiful, made in a rose gold finish. In short, this is my DREAM JACKET.
But the back is where the party really happens! Jo and I worked together to come up with this exclusive ‘Rock n Roll’ embroidery design. The thing I love about it the most is that it’s not actually really that weddingy at all. You can keep wearing it after the wedding is over too meaning it’s going to be a great investment piece.
I am a strong believer in the outfit-transforming power of high quality accessories. The cheapest high street outfit will look a million bucks when paired with a well fitting jacket, a ridiculously awesome pair of shoes, or a statement handbag. In fact one of the only other pieces of a similar quality that I own is a designer leather jacket that Gareth got me as a Christmas gift a few years ago. It was an investment for sure, but I pull it out of my wardrobe every autumn and wear it religiously until it starts to get warm again in the spring. It also gets better with age as it moulds and relaxes to my shape each time I wear it. I know I’m going to own it until I’m old and (well probably not grey but ya know..!)
Fast fashion this is not. I am very proud and excited to be working with The Couture Company on a line that is handmade in the UK from really high-quality materials. Your jacket will be made for you by Jo and her amazing team from their Birmingham studio, meaning it’ll literally be the best fitting jacket you’ve ever owned. As with all The Couture Company’s work, each one will be hand-crafted, cut and stitched with love and care (no mass production factory in sight). Here they are making mine:
I have been obsessed with writing and publishing wedding content for over a decade. I love sharing inspiration and planning advice every day on this website and in each issue of our print magazine. When people ask me what I do for a living I usually reply by saying I’m a magazine editor and blogger but from today I’m now able to add something else to that list – published author!
YES, THAT’S RIGHT, I ONLY WENT AND WROTE A BLOODY BOOK!
If you’re wondering how this all came about then let me rewind for a minute and start the story from the beginning… Believe me, keeping all this quiet for the past six months has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do!
I have secretly wanted to write a book for a very long time. I first started thinking about doing it around five years ago. My plan back then was to self-publish, but the enormity of the task overwhelmed me so it never got off the ground (remember this was before we had the magazine so I knew literally nothing about offline publishing). For the last few years the book idea has been stuck in the back of my mind as something I’d like to revisit again one day, but without an agent, or any real knowledge of the book publishing world, I had no clue where to begin. Let’s face it, I’m a busy girl, and the thought of having to write and pitch a book that may or may not even get picked up felt a bit soul-destroying.
Then, early this year I received an email from Ryland, Peters and Small, inviting me to meet with them to pitch a book idea to ME! Serendipity was clearly on my side this time as I’d just signed with my manager who would be able to help me navigate the negotiations and all that slightly scary stuff too.
Long story short, not only did the team at Ryland, Peters and Small totally ‘get’ the Rock n Roll Bride brand and ethos but they loved all my content ideas! Their books are completely stunning and really visual with lots of gorgeous photographs, which I’m sure you know I am ALL about too. They were happy to give me almost entire creative control but using their experienced team to make it a reality – AKA the dream scenario! It was a match made in heaven and I was so excited to get started.
