OK hear me out, while 2020 sucked in many, MANY ways, also, it was kind of amazing. We got to spend time at home, we started to appreciate the small things, we realised just how lucky we are to have the NHS and we got to revaluate what is really important to us, too. While having to postpone your wedding was obviously a massive suckfest, it did give you more excuses to buy more issues of Rock n Roll Bride magazine soooooo who can really be mad about that!?

Whatever craziness the world throws at us next, there will still be art, love and creativity to inspire us.

Thirteen years ago this month I registered the website rocknrollbride.blogspot.co.uk so I had somewhere to talk about planning my wedding. The year was 2007 (before Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook groups where a thing) and the way most of us connected with other people online was through closed forums or websites such as LiveJournal and MySpace.

There's nothing we love more at Rock n Roll Bride than going OTT, extra AF and living your best authentic life, no matter what that looks like to you. This shoot, which we shot just days before lockdown began in March (yes, it's taken me a long time to getting around to blogging it!) was featured inside issue 32 of the magazine, and while we'd been planning it for a few months, the glitz, glamour and all-round flamboyant extravagance of the theme was actually JUST what we needed to see once the dreaded c-word wreaked havoc with the world!

Originally published in issue 30 of Rock n Roll Bride magazine (Jan/Feb 2020), our 'Queen for a Day' editorial was all about celebrating how fierce you are going to be as you sashay down the aisle. We wanted to use giant crowns, gold and some really unique florals. As soon as we found the stunning Fitzrovia Chapel, a bedazzled little jewel of a place hidden away in the streets not far from Oxford Circus, we knew it was the ideal location. Oh, and in case you were in any doubt, a big fuck off crown is always a good idea!

This is why I started my entire business, as the antithesis to everything I disliked about the wedding world while I was planning my own wedding. Nothing about that has changed, in fact, I think it's something we're leaning into even more as the brand and business has grown. We really just want to show you that you DO NOT HAVE to have what's trendy, popular, cool or 'normal' when you get married. The landscape of the wedding industry looks very different in 2020 than it did in 2007, but there is still so much work to do. There are still things to question, things to shake up and convention and expectation to reject. Our attendees flew in from Austria, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and came from all over the UK to descend on Hackney Town Hall for a magical day of connection, inspiration and making new best friends.
