High school sweethearts Kim and Michael were married at Cielo at Castle Pines in Colorado. Their wedding was bright and colourful but most of all fun and reminiscent of the time they started dating. "Since we were high school sweethearts, we used this as our wedding theme," Kim explained. "We decided to recreate some of those happy memories in our wedding. We had bright sunset colors in our flowers, lighting, table cloths, attendant dresses and ties, and even on our wedding cake. Rainbow colors represented our happiness both in the past and for our future."

Budget-Friendly, DIY & Colourful Village Hall Wedding: Abby & Liam

With just £3000, a mountain of ideas and a hell of a lot of hard work, Abby and Liam planned their DIY village hall wedding for August this year. The day was held at Eccleston Village Hall, with the ceremony in the garden. They saved a lot of money by not going for traditional wedding stuff. Abby's amazing dress was vintage, bought at Pillbox Vintage Wedding Fair, which she then had reworked by Carla at Mon Ami. Liam's outfit was from River Island. The flowers were all grown in the bride's mother's garden and their transport for the day was their own vintage yellow Beetle!

Netty and Andy were married in Northampton during August. They wanted their wedding to be colourful and fun. "We picked wedding suppliers that were really arty and talented", began the bride. "Our photographer, Hannah of Casey Avenue, was both creative and quirky which suited our style perfectly. Hattie & Flora did our flowers and took our colourful brief and ran with it! By having such great suppliers our wedding was really relaxed and really 'us'. It was such a lovely celebration, and apart from being a bit nervous, we didn't feel stressed. It wasn't too fussy, we just had a really good party."

People who submit me their weddings often describe their wedding themes as 'them' - a collection of things that they love or that they feel represent them as a couple. Amanda and Andre, who were married in Cologne, Germany, were no different. "We had some Rock n Roll, lots of colour and a slight industrial vibe for our wedding", Amanda explained."Our wedding was held in the middle of Cologne central market at 'Alte Versteigerungshalle' which means Old Auction House. It was difficult to find a venue that was outside of the norm. We didn't want a farm, a castle or a hotel. Because of the lack of alternatives we picked somewhere that we could make our own and decorate ourselves."

Charlotte and Leo, originally from Brighton but currently living in Liverpool, knew they wanted to marry in the city where they met. So they planned their wedding from afar and booked out an entire guest house right on the sea front to accommodate their guests! A Room with a View has nine guest rooms and was the perfect place for everyone to get ready. The floor to ceiling windows looking over the beach and pier made for some great photos from Lisa Devlin too!

Always wanting to do a wedding inspiration shoot with a difference, photographer Sharon Cooper finally found her mojo when she came up with this hotch-potch and patchwork theme. "I wanted to do something that packed a punch and used a range of uplifting colours", she explained, "an alternative to weddings which have one single colour theme. This shoot embodies pleasing mixed colours and offers a smorgasbord of individualism. I found myself loving patchwork and texture and colour."

Neil and Joanne were married in the picturesque Henley-on-Thames in May. They spent just £7,000 on the wedding, managing to keep costs low by avoiding traditional wedding 'stuff' as much as possible! The bride bought her Monsoon Bridal dress for £45 from eBay and did her own hair and make up. The venues were also pretty affordable. The ceremony took place at Henley town hall and the reception at Hambleden Village Hall. The groom's mother made the cake, they designed and printed their own stationery and they drove their own car.

For their March wedding, South Africans Angelo & Candice wanted a colourful day that oozed fun...so a rainbow theme it was! "Angelo and I are generally out of the box thinkers and the 'same old same old' wedding décor was not what we wanted", began the bride. "We knew we wanted colour and fun and we went from there. There were a few elements I needed to 'sell' to my parents but they went with most of my ideas (thankfully). Angelo and I are both involved in film and TV (Angelo is an actor and I am a Junior Creative Producer) so a strong film element had to be prevalent in our day. "Asian weddings are notorious for being huge, but we didn't want that", the bride continued. "We wanted everyone there to truly feel part of the wedding. This was going to be a party for our nearest and dearest. We set out to find a unique venue to capture both our sides, tall order! We looked everywhere: gallery spaces, sculpture gardens, castles – the lot. We were losing hope until we came across a beautiful National Trust site in Derby. It was stunning and we fell in love with it straight away. Not only could we pretty much use the whole house for our ceremony, reception, dinner and dancing but it was closed to the public and it had a history steeped in the Rajasthani era as the owner was the Viceroy to India. Perfect! I had the Indian side covered and Stu had the design and architecture by Robert Adams covered. We couldn't believe our luck."

A colourful country fête wedding with a 1950s flair? What's not to love in Steph & Dale's wedding?! The day took place in Essex, kicking off at St Giles Church with the reception at Pledgdon Barn. This wedding was a real DIY love affair and a project of passion. The couple made as much as possible including (deep breath) the bunting (both triangle and heart shaped), their stationery and all the paper goods, cocktail stirrers from laser cut card, the cake flags, the acrylic cake toppers, the wooden signs, the blackboards, the paper hearts for decorating the tables, the bridesmaids earrings, the buttonholes, the bow ties for their dogs and the cupcakes!

High school sweethearts James & Ashley were married at Crane Arts in Philadelphia in October. Despite the Autumnal time of year, the couple didn't want an obvious colour scheme - they wanted a rainbow! "Our wedding was very DIY", wrote the bride. "My husband and I can be crafty when we want to be and this wedding really let our creative juices flow. I hand painted all of the sugar skulls and signs while Jim was busy building the dance floor and the entranceway. We also got some old doors from my grandmother, painted them and used them for the ceremony backdrop. One thing I am particularly proud of is the beer bottle cap heart that we screwed to a pallet. We of course drank all of the beer ourselves! I also found some amazing Day of the Dead fabric that we used to make the photo booth, Jim's bow-tie, and I also wrapped the flower bouquets in it."
