For their March wedding, South Africans Angelo & Candice wanted a colourful day that oozed fun…so a rainbow theme it was! “Angelo and I are generally out of the box thinkers and the ‘same old same old’ wedding décor was not what we wanted”, began the bride. “We knew we wanted colour and fun and we went from there. There were a few elements I needed to ‘sell’ to my parents but they went with most of my ideas (thankfully). Angelo and I are both involved in film and TV (Angelo is an actor and I am a Junior Creative Producer) so a strong film element had to be prevalent in our day. We had popcorn holding up our table numbers and a picture of a clapper board on our invites.”
Candice’s gorgeous custom wedding gown was made by a costume designer, Julita de Wet and her shoes were from Nine West. She wanted her bridesmaids to be comfortable but colourful and stylish so instead of stuffy bridesmaid’s dresses they wore maxi skirts – each in a different colour – and white tank tops. They all carried giant paper flowers instead of bouquets.
“My favourite part of the whole day was… the whole day!” Candice laughed. “We enjoyed every moment of it and relaxed quite a bit once the ceremony got started. There’s not much we would have wanted to have done differently but I do wish we’d invited about 20 people more so that those who cancelled the week before or on the day would not have been so sorely missed.”

All the guys wore colourful Hawaiian shirts and the girls were in brightly patterned summer dresses! Kelli's dress was vintage, from the 1940s and cost her $8! The day was held outdoors, at The Litchi Orchard in Salt Rock, Durban.
"Our wedding was surf inspired", wrote Kelli, "as we both surf and after watching the 80s classic North Shore together, we knew the theme we wanted straight away! Light, fun, floral, colourful and full of love!"

"The inspiration for our wedding was just 'let’s be ourselves'", Kelly said. "We've been to so many weddings over the years that all feel the same; a lot of people try and have this fancy formal affair when it really doesn't reflect who they are as people."

I Love that Glove

Honestly? I struggled with what to write about today. Usually on a Sunday I'll post something non-wedding related that's caught my eye or I'll share something exciting that I've done in the week. But I shared my Photography Farm retreat escapades in this week's Thursday Treats and since then I've basically been chained to my computer replying to the squillions of emails that came in whilst I was away and writing as many blog posts as physically possible. I also spent rather a lot of time on the phone to Cosmopolitan Magazine. NO BIG DEAL (more on this soon!)
And then this wedding pinged into my inbox and it all became clear.

With just £3000, a mountain of ideas and a hell of a lot of hard work, Abby and Liam planned their DIY village hall wedding for August this year. The day was held at Eccleston Village Hall, with the ceremony in the garden. They saved a lot of money by not going for traditional wedding stuff. Abby's amazing dress was vintage, bought at Pillbox Vintage Wedding Fair, which she then had reworked by Carla at Mon Ami. Liam's outfit was from River Island. The flowers were all grown in the bride's mother's garden and their transport for the day was their own vintage yellow Beetle!

Sam and Stu met at college and bonded over a mutual love of video games, "primarily how to get the knights of the round summon in Final Fantasy 7!" Sam laughed. So needless to say, when it came to tying the knot, the very thing that brought them together was to be the theme of the wedding. " We’re game geeks to the core! We wanted sleek quirky bright design with our gaming interest being the centre of it. We play tabletop RPG’s, board games and regular old video games."
