If you know anything about me at all, you'll know that my hair is my 'thing'. However years of bleaching it has made my hair pretty thin over the years. Despite my best intentions and using all the recommended products and treatments, its inevitable that bleaching your roots every 8-10 weeks will have an effect. That's the main reason why I've been growing out my natural root and its also why I decided to look into hair extensions.

Today I'm sharing the second hair tutorial from my collaboration with Your Cloud Parade and 10.11 Make Up (you can see last week's faux hawk here!) This is a elegant and ethereal a half up, half down hidden braid style would be perfect for boho or casual brides. And I promise it's not as complicated as it sounds! The best bit? It uses all the same supplies and products as last week's tutorial so if you tooled up for that one you can now give this one a bash too!

Emily & Daniel’s Classic and Caring Wedding

Kat

September 7, 2010

I've known (as in online-known) photographer Katie Malone for about 3 years. We got married about the same time and were both members of the same forum during our planning. I love when she emails me weddings she's now shooting. It's incredible how we're both still surrounded by this wedding-world after all this time...and doing it in a bad ass way of course! I've loved her photographs ever since she first started experimenting. She usesa variety of cameras to give her photographs a totally different look to anyone else's. Infrared, Vivitar ultra wide & slim, Holga & Polaroid are all used alongside her digital SLR to get her unusual and intoxicating techniques.

Wind, Hair & Rock n Roll

Kat

August 31, 2010

"Just another hot and windy Sunday afternoon in Tracy, CA" began photographer Nirav. "Showing Matt & Lynnae's love for each other meant that they had to feel extremely comfortable in their location and with me so I decided to start the session at a place that they had spent a lot of time together and had lots of character which was Matt's mother's home/farm. The home included stables, a farm house, and several critters of all sorts. We took several shots there and once things felt right we moved out to the hills of Tracy with the intention of shooting with the giant windmills in the background. When we got, the security patrol was there to make sure those shots were not going to happen. The amount of wind up on hill was tremendous and I loved the movement of hair so we took the remainder of the shots there with a very simple backdrop. My favorite shots are ones that play on light and shadows. I wanted at least one dramatic silhouette shot which is when I spotted the power lines. After that, we all headed back to house and passed out from heat exhaustion."

London Punks vs Americana Kitsch

Kat

August 6, 2010

Kate & Mike's London punk wedding took place a few weeks before the couple moved to LA (Jealous!) so it had a distinctly punk rock vs Americana theme. The couple booked Celine Chaplin to take some portraits and to document their fun-filled reception. Kate told me all about their day - including a very funny story about Mike's wedding day hair cut! "Since we were moving to Los Angeles a couple of weeks after the wedding, Mike & I were totally hectic so we really needed some help with the wedding. My sister and my Mum were amazing at putting the wedding together. My Dad even chipped in and sorted the meal out! i'm a total control freak but on this occasion, I'm glad i let someone else take over because they did such an awesome job."

A Diy-Heavy, Cotton Candy-Eating, Vivienne Westwood-Wearing, Jeans-Definitely Allowed, Handmade, Carnival Themed Wedding

Kat

July 3, 2010

Jess & Bryan's is my favourite kind of wedding. I love the fashion, I love the style, I love the amazing diy touches and the whole chilled out and creative vibe of the day. "We really wanted usto be present in everything that was a part of our day" the couple told me. "We tried to make, and do, as much as we could for our wedding. This meant enlisting the help of our talented and wonderful friends and family to make paper cupcake toppers, straw flags, escort cards, wooden signs and much, much more! We all got together the day before the wedding to set up the entire tent and yard and then relaxed with a night of BBQing and laughing.

Retro Rockabilly & Heart Shaped Sunglasses

Kat

June 15, 2010

I've got yet another bit of retro rockabilly lovin' for you today, in the form of Nick & Jamie's Santa Barbara wedding. The ceremony and reception took place at The Rockwood Womens Club which proved to be the perfect backdrop to their day. Jamie looked stunning in her Maya dress by Michelle Roth, but it had a bit of a story behind it! ""Ohhhhh the dress....it was almost a nightmare! It was a Michelle Roth "Maya" that I bought used on Oncewed. I took it to a local alterations lady who cut it too short and messed up the top! Luckily I have a dear friend in the fashion industry, Denice Dir who saved the day by not only adding the black tulle underneath, sewing in a petticoat and took 45 minutes to carefully seam rip the top and fix what the other lady had messed up. She even made my dog's collar piece out of my dress trimmings and surprised me on the day of my wedding with the special stitching she did inside!"

Retro Rockabilly vs Vintage Hippy Chic

Kat

March 2, 2010

For Jessica's trash the dress, she wanted to go for two different looks. So along side her husband Randy and her photographer Lori she got kitted out twice to create some images she'd always remember. First up was a retro rockabilly style urban session full of graffiti shots and stark architecture completed with her kick ass attitude and fashion including necklaces by Anna Sheffield for Target, the Je t'aime two finger ring (which I adore!) by Erica Anenberg and heels by Steve Madden. F0llowing this a much softer, more earthy style was required, so they all headed out to a local woodland with a gorgeous green chair and had a play around. For this style she wore vintage necklaces and a vintage coat, boots by MIA and a pink disc necklace by Dominique Cohen. Her dress in both sessions was from David's Bridal.
