Laura & Ian’s Hollywood Glamour Wedding

Three week’s ago photographer Annamarie Stepney was in Reading (where I live) so she popped by to say hello…to my cats. Yeah people never come to see me any more, it’s all about the internet sensations that are Henry & Rachel! Anyway, as we walked Henry round the back garden on his lead (I kid you not) she was telling me all about the wedding she was shooting the next day….at my wedding venue…well in actual fact, what should have been my wedding venue. You see, as soon as Gareth & I got engaged, I knew I wanted to have our wedding at The Forbury Hotel. It’s an amazing venue and I wanted it. Bad. But sad face for us, it was already booked on our day. However I am really excited to see how Laura & Ian’s Rock n Roll wedding turned out at the venue that should have been mine!

The wedding had a glamorous Hollywood theme. With Laura being a hair & make up artist, she sees a lot of weddings in her work, so she was keen that their wedding was really different. “We had a very short think about a theme and instantly came up with old Hollywood glamour!” Laura told me. “We both love old fashioned styles and music. As a hair and make-up artist I absolutely love this era its beauty and artistic flare.”

“It could never have been anything else for us. All our guests spent hundreds on outfits and everyone conformed to our theme! Very well dressed wedding. We thought it was really nice for ladies too, to wear the outfits they always are dying to wear but would usually feel too overdressed or think they might upstage the bride. At our wedding there was no such thing as too overdressed!”

The couple really went all out with their theme, DIYing a lot of the details and hiring a popcorn machine, a photo booth and a 1952 yellow buick convertible (“Which is the car that all our feature stars on the day – Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and Audrey Hepburn etc used as their chauffeurs” Laura continued.) The couple even made their own invites to look like a cinema ticket stub with an ‘admit one’ part for the RSVP.

Elhaam & Mat’s Labyrinth-Inspired, Venetian Ball Wedding

This New York City couple wanted a super glam wedding with a twist…one that really reflected them as a couple, “On November 12, 2010, Mat and I were married at Capitale in NYC in front of 200 guests,” the bride, Elhaam, explained. “I’m originally from Georgia, with Iranian ancestry, and Mat is from Leeds, UK, so we wanted to incorporate British, American and Persian elements with our own personalities and style to make the wedding truly our own. We’re both in the music industry and that obviously played a huge role in the wedding too.”

“Our wedding was loosely inspired  by the ballroom scene from the David Bowie flick The Labyrinth. The film is about a journey and coming out a better person at the end through your relationships. Mat and I definitely went through a journey to find each other. He from Leeds, UK, and me from Alpharetta, Georgia, and both of us following our love of music to NYC where we meet and fall in love.”

“Some of the wedding features include antique candelabras dripping with wax, hanging green amaranthus, old European flowers, and moody lighting to capture that feeling from the ballroom scene in the Labyrinth,” she continued. “We had a masked ball reception with Venetian masks, live performances by artists like Marfa Lights and U.S Royalty, some celebrity guests, amazing food, and non stop dancing provided by DJ Cat Hartwell from indie band Holy Hail.”

“What made our wedding so special is that it reflected who we are, complete with a killer soundtrack (since we are both in the music biz), great fashion (the bridesmaids dresses are all custom made by James Coviello, groom’s 60’s inspired skinny suits from Topman, my customized gown by  Lazaro and Mat’s custom suit by Against Nature), our joint customs and backgrounds melted together into the ceremony, the ring blessing, and all the love from our 200 guests.”

These guys are so gorgeous! Be sure to check out their awesome (and funny…most hilarious groom response to ‘I give you this ring’ possibly ever) video too…

The Shining Inspired Glam Goth Wedding

Mindy & David got married at The Stanley Hotel in Colorado, the hotel that provided the inspiration to Stephen King for The Shining.

“Our first thoughts about what we wanted our wedding to look and sound and feel like were all over the board” the couple told me. “Our first decision was the location.  We had stayed at the Historic Stanley Hotel the summer previous, and while we were familiar with much of the folklore of the place, we were delighted to find character that goes far deeper than “haunted joint.”  We had a wonderful time and felt a connection to the Stanley.”

“Touring possible locations in Denver and the surrounding area, we visited many nice places with good things to offer.  When we returned to the Stanley to consider it as a wedding location, though, it was immediately evident to both of us that we found our place.  Other locations offered beautiful wall finishes or breathtaking views, but no other option had the richness about it that the Stanley oozed.  The often cracking paint (new paint jobs last less than a year there) and imperfections added to the individual nature of the building that really resonated with us.  The main downside to the Stanley is the fact that they host multiple weddings every weekend in the summer, and we didn’t want to be ‘just another wedding.’  In the end, it just inspired us to create something individual and extraordinary.”

Deluxe Boudoir

The vintage boudoir style is everywhere right now and it really seems to be sparking people’s imaginations! I love how different people perceive things in their own unique way… Obviously my recently shoot was miles away in style to this one sent to me the other day by Courtney Wilson, but the brief was the same – to create some stunning boudoir images with a vintage flair.

Courtney told me all about her inspiration behind this shoot:
There was an image from Destry Rides Again (1939) where Marlene Deitrich is posed oh-so-sensually in her deluxe boudoir. I saw this image and was completely inspired to theme a shoot around it (the black and white shot was my interpretation of the actual image). The model is my sister, Eva, and she was a very willing subject on a rainy day at my home. After ransacking the whole house, we pulled together our favorite vintage accessories and went to town! Eva wore all her own clothes and I styled the shoot myself. her amazing shoes were from Shoegasm in Manhattan.

A Crystal-Encrusted-High-Octane-Glitterati Seriously Rocking Wedding Day

Follow up posts are always fun, I always think when I see an engagement session ‘ooh I wonder what their wedding will be like?’ So it’s great to find out the answer! Nik & Nicole’s Desperate Housewife session gave me high expectations for their big day, and boy am I not disappointed. I am loving Nicole’s crystal encrusted shoes by Steve Madden (customised with the crystal by Nicole), cuffs and hairpiece from Dalita Moda and her phenomenal fishtail dress (check out the back!) designed by the bride and made by Carole Pitts. The bottom even detached for the dancing in the evening. Also check out that fabulous custom made ‘BRIDE’ necklace, also by Dalita Moda. It’s pretty bad ass right?

The bridesmaids look every bit SATC chic in their daring black dresses, also by designed by Nicole and made by Carole Pitts, and their fishnet tights…and the boys in all black – hummanahummana…
