Aimee and Adam couldn't have the wedding they originally planned, but not wanting to wait to get married they decided to keep things small and as simple as possible. It was just the two them and only really close family and friends in attendance at their Oklahoma Supreme Court ceremony.Read more...

Kirsten and Gareth were marred at Wagner Cove in Central Park. They decided to skip the big wedding, choosing to say "I do" while on holiday in the USA. Kirsten's incredible blue dress was from Temperley London. "We met in 2008 at a mutual friend's birthday party and went on our first date to a sushi train a couple of months later", explained Kirsten. "Gareth tried to impress me by eating a packet of wasabi, without knowing about its eye-wateringly spicy effects."Read more...

Mike and Ashley spent just $1200 on their amazing wedding. To do this, they forgot about anything traditional, instead opting to say 'I do' at their favourite place in their hometown of Portland - Voodoo Doughnut! Cat Daddy, the owner, even officiated the ceremony!Read more...

Chelsea and Randy eloped and so didn't have professional photographs taken. But they wanted something to remember this special time in their lives so they booked Joan and Jon of BellowBlue Photography for a photo session that completely optimised them. This was not a styled shoot, it took place at their own home, decked out in all it's retro finery. They used their own car that they drive every day. The barber shop is where Randy works.Read more...

Don't you just love looking at weddings when the emotion completely pours out of the photographs? This is totally applicable for Ash and Pat's Brighton elopement! They wanted a low key and budget-friendly wedding and so were married at Brighton registry office. It was just the two of them, two witnesses and their photographer Sassy of Assassynation in attendance. After the ceremony, they all went to JB’s American Diner for burgers and milkshakes.Read more...

As far as simple and breathtaking weddings go, I think this family focused elopement in Big Sur, California wins everything. It was just Ulysses, Cyntia and their two gorgeous children, Pheonix and Galaxy in attendance. Their officiant, Colette Cucchia, was there to marry them overlooking the water and their wedding photographer captured the whole thing beautifully.Read more...

Dani and Liam always wanted a small wedding. There was no grand proposal either, in fact they decided that they wanted to get hitched when they were driving to Reno last August. They chose 11/12/13 as their wedding date - just three months away!Read more...

Shane and Melissa didn't want to spent a lot to get married so they decided to have a small ceremony, with just a few friends and family in attendance, at the derelict St. Agnes Church in Detroit. Amazingly, they managed to do this for just $1000. They didn't have a reception and they only booked their photographer for a couple of hours.Read more...

When I featured Ainsley and Sebestien's engagement shoot in September I dubbed it "the coolest engagement shoot to date". I was pretty sure that their wedding would be suitably kick ass too but nothing (and I mean nothing!) could have prepared me for this. While I was hanging out with their wedding photographer Janneke Storm in Queensland, she started to tell me more about their upcoming elopement in Las Vegas. I made her promise then and there to send me the photos to blog afterwards. Luckily for me (and you!) she did.Read more...

It's no secret that I am completely obsessed with Made U Look's photography. I know I'm not supposed to have favourites and all, but if I was forced... well, they'd be way up there. They just kill it every time. Which is why, when Vicki and Lee sent me the photos of their elopement at a church in the Californian desert, shot by Made U Look, I didn't hesitate for one second when I replied saying "Yes, yes, yes I want to feature you!"Read more...

No matter how many weddings I feature, or how many cool, quirky and original décor and details I see, it is always the simple and emotional, small weddings, that really slay me. Elopements, intimate ceremonies, the great outdoors. Anna and Jarrah did exactly this, travelling from their home in Australia to a beach in France, with just their parents and very best friends in attendance.Read more...

Are any of you planning to elope? If so, I hope this gorgeous shoot might inspire you. " I really wanted to showcase a different way to do a wedding", wrote wedding photographer and the driving force behind this session, Joel Bedford. "I pictured this lovely couple driving out into the middle of nowhere to recite their vows. The idea seemed so romantic to me: a red vintage sportscar, a ballerina skirt and a couple in love."Read more...

A lot of you will no doubt remember Whit and Colby's 'Non Wedding' shoot by the incredible Brooke Davis. It was one of my most popular wedding features of all time, and weirdly, sparked quite a bit of debate. But to those that said it was an irrelevant shoot with no real meaning to actual brides and grooms - today I present to you Alicia and Phill. After seeing those images not only booked Brooke to shoot their elopement, but went for their very own 'Non Wedding' theme - a secret ceremony and a party in their own back garden. Inspiration is everywhere.Read more...

Planning a wedding is bloody hard work and sometimes it can all get a bit too much. I'm sure you've stressed a little over flower arrangements, worried if your bridesmaids will like their dresses or navigated your way through more family issues than you even knew you had. Big weddings are wonderful occasions but I'm yet to meet a couple who haven't wondered at some point if that crazy idea to elope was really so crazy after all.Read more...

It's unusual that I'll split a wedding into two parts, but as Jen and Steve had two very distinctive and very different wedding days I feel it's only fair to give both of them equal air time! Their celebrations kicked off with an intimate legal ceremony at Brighton register office... with an Elvis and Marilyn Monroe impersonators as their only witnesses!Read more...

Over the past few weeks I've been interviewed by three major media outlets about the rise of low key weddings (Grazia, The Daily Mail and the BBC). A number of celebrities have recently tied the knot in uncharacteristically understated ways (Keira being the latest) which has prompted the mainstream media interest, but as any Rock n Roll bride will know this is really nothing new. Planning your wedding in your own way has been something I've championed ever since this blog began waaaay back in 2007 and I'm honoured to have featured so many beautiful, small and honest weddings over the years. Of course I am thrilled that the mainstream are finally starting to sit up and take notice though - catch up guys!Read more...
