Incredible Queer Wedding at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens

The incredible wedding of Robin and Jeannine took place at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens in August. "As a queer couple (gay, female identified Jeannine and gender/queer, trans identified Robin) we found it important to craft our wedding and the many details on our own so that it didn't fall into a too traditional event that we ourselves didn't fit into", they told me. "We used and encouraged gender-neutral language, used as many recycled materials as possible, and put our hearts and energy into all the aspects of what turned out to be an incredible day. Jeannine literally took the summer off from teaching for the first time ever and approached wedding planning in the same manner that she might develop curricula for her students. We also asked for support and inspiration in myriad areas of planning and production from our community of talented friends and loved ones."

Super Budget, Totally Kick Ass Alice in Wonderland Wedding

Assassynation

January 12, 2015

There must be something in the water because I've now featured three brides with blue hair in the past week. Well, it is the best hair colour after all! The reason I fell in love with this wedding has nothing to do with Kaylee's tresses though, and everything to do with the fact that they had the most kick ass day, on a minuscule budget. I love sharing weddings like this because they prove that it is completely possible to have an awesome wedding without spending a fortune. You just have to prioritise what you really want (in Kaylee and Jake's case their only big expense was the photography) and be smart about where you get everything else. The bride found her wedding dress in a vintage store for £20 for example!!

Seriously Pretty Nature-Inspired Rooftop Wedding

Lacey and Josh didn't want to have a stressful time planning their wedding. Initially they wanted to elope, but instead decided to have a wedding that was relaxed and intimate, and that truly reflected them as a couple. "We wanted our wedding to be about us and the commitment we were making to one another", began Lacey. "We didn't want all of the added fluff that comes with the most traditional weddings. Instead we focused on having a very small, intimate (but still awesome!) celebration with our closest friends and family."

An English Enchanted Forest Wedding

John and Lucy were married at Larmer Tree Gardens in Wiltshire in September. They chose it because it had the pretty outside space that they wanted, and they were able to say their vows outside (which isn't always possible in the UK!) in their covered pavilion. "We are both artists, I paint and John is a photographer, and we are both deeply inspired by nature", said Lucy. "I am also borderline obsessed with the vision of an enchanted forest so we wanted our wedding to feel like a blurry childhood memory of a place that was so beautiful and fantastical that you're not sure whether it was real or not. We fell in love with Larmer Tree Gardens the minute we clapped eyes on it. There were peacocks and parrots roaming around so we used a loose theme based on the colours of the peacocks plumage by having the boys in teal and the girls in royal blue."

October 18, 2014

You might think that there's nothing more traditional in English weddings than a country garden setting, but Abby and Hoi's big day was anything but quaint! They took the traditional elements and turned them on their head. From the bride's short polka dot dress and purple hair, to the Hello Kitty cake and the vintage ice cream cart for dessert, this was a wedding that was quintessentially 'them'.

Cats, Anchors and a Sprinkling of Harry Potter: Claire-Josephine & Nick

September 18, 2014

A true DIY wedding, Claire-Josephine, Nick and their families made a lot of the details for their big day themselves. The stationery was made by the bride's aunt and the groom, and the favours by the mother of the groom. The cake was made by a member of the church choir and the bride helped design her own dress and headpiece which were made for her by her friend Keli Thompson, who has just launched her own wedding couture company.
