May 15, 2014

Travis and Erin challenged themselves to spend no more than $5000 on their wedding - and they did it! One of the key things about this wedding was that they kept it a secret from their guests. That's right, they had no idea they were going to a wedding that day... they all thought they were just there for an engagement party! The day was held at The Briars Homestead Garden, Mount Martha, Australia.

May 8, 2014

Jo and Tony were married by a small lake on a friend's property in Denmark, on the south coast of Western Australia. The bride wore a dress from an op shop (she actually only decided the morning of the wedding what she would be wearing, after several changes of clothes!) and clear wellington boots! Tony wore an outfit also put together that morning from things he already owned or could borrow from friends. As you can probably tell this was the lowest of low key weddings!

I Got You Babe

February 6, 2014

Alison and Jeremy's wedding took place in Melbourne, They had a non-denominational ceremony in a church and their reception was held at Shebeen, a super cool bar on Manchester Lane. Their day was super colourful and nearly all the décor was DIYed by the couple themselves. "We didn't really have a conscious theme," explained the bride. "We just put together a wedding that represented us. Throughout the planning process we questioned a lot of the usual traditions and culled elements of a traditional wedding that didn't have meaning for us."

January 24, 2014

The beautiful wedding of Anna and Luke took place at Victorian Marriage Registry, Melbourne followed by a casual lunch at Golden Orchids Malaysian Restaurant (where they had their first date!) and an evening reception at North Fitzroy Star. Nothing about this wedding was traditional. The bride wore a non-wedding dress from theoutnet.com, the cakes and desserts were made by their loved ones instead of a wedding cake and instead of an expensive wedding car they either walked or caught taxi's from place to place.

When the initial email from Celeste at Tourism and Events Queensland came into The Blogcademy inbox asking us if we’d consider an all-expenses paid trip to Queensland I nearly deleted it, assuming it must be spam. I mean, this kind of opportunity doesn't exactly come knocking on your door everyday. After verifying that Celeste wasn't, in fact, just playing a rather cruel prank, we started to plan our epic adventure down under!

Nree and Adrian were married on a Friday afternoon in February. Their farm venue set the tone and theme for the day, which they accessorised with homemade yellow details. "Our wedding was summery, relaxed, vintage and handmade", wrote the bride. "Our main objective was to keep the cost down! So styling and hand making everything was a top priority (also something that I LOVED doing). We wanted to be super relaxed and for our guest feeling relaxed on our special day, so having the wedding at Gum Gully was perfect. The sun was shining, the birds were signing and all we could smell was that sweet country air."

July 3, 2013

Ben and Kate were married in August at Flaxton Gardens, Queensland, Australia. They wanted a romantic wedding but one that was a little bit different, to reflect their personalties. " I struggled to begin with to decide what to do and how to do it", began the bride. "I read a lot of magazines and blogs but it wasn't until I found Rock n Roll Bride that I realised that it really didn't matter what everyone else was doing, we should do what represents us best. So we did what made us happy, didn't worry about tradition so much and did things that weren't so ‘wedding’. I kept my hair short (I always thought I’d grow it), I kept it coloured (blue) and we wrote our own vows that made everyone laugh as they really reflected us."

You know when you meet someone and you can instantly tell that they're your kind of person? You talk non-stop about everything and anything and five hours later you wonder where all the time went? Well that was exactly what happened to me when I met up with photographer Lakshal Perera last week. Based in Australia, Lucky (as he's known to his friends) is without a doubt one of the biggest talents coming out of Oz right now. His work never fails to blow me away and the fact that he's literally one of the nicest people I've ever met makes his talent even more exciting to me.
