Rock n Roll Bride - The ultimate guide for alternative brides

Post-It Notes – 25th November 2011: What to do When it all Goes Wrong…

Kat

November 25, 2011

Did you know that after blogging for just over a year I somehow managed to delete the whole blog? Seriously... To cut a long story short, I had been secretly blogging using Blogger since just before our wedding. I used the blog to post my own wedding ideas and after the wedding to share other people's alternative wedding ideas and weddings that I'd found and liked around the internet. The reason for the blog certainly wasn't to make it into a business, I'd simply fallen in love with wedding blogs during my wedding planning and started my own for fun.

A 60’s & 70’s Inspired Smokey Boudoir Sesh (*NSFW*)

Kat

November 24, 2011

**Warning before we begin, some of these photos may not be safe for work, so don't say I didn't warn you. There are boobs...nice boobs...but boobs none the less...** Most of you will have noticed that I don't feature a whole load of boudoir on Rock n Roll Bride. It's not that I don't like it, but I guess my opinion is the same as that on engagement shoots - the photos are amazing for the people involved (show me a man who wouldn't want to see his bride to be all sexified-up for him pre-wedding?) but for us non-involved people, once you've see one hot lady in sexy undies jumping around on a bed you've seen 'em all...

‘Lola the Bird’: An Art Deco Photo Shoot

Kat

November 23, 2011

This beautiful shoot was set up by headpiece designer Natasha Jane to promote her amazing 'Lola the Bird' headpiece (I've seen it in real life and it is an amazing piece, I'd love to see a real Rock n Roll Bride wearing it!) The shoot took place at the UK's oldest cinema, Birmingham's Electric Cinema, which has been open for over 100 years. The art deco cinema is even available to hire for weddings so it really was the perfect venue to show off this new wedding collection.

A Gothic Masked Ball: Debs & Sean

Kat

November 22, 2011

Sean & Deb's masked ball wedding took place at the beginning on November at Brownsover Hall Hotel, Brownsover, Rugby. "We stumbled on the venue by accident after previously reserving two other venues", the bride told me. "We were on our way up to my parents for christmas and made a detour to see the hall - it was amazing! Gothic, yet romantic. We fell in love with it as soon as we saw the giant Elk's skull in the entrance hall!" The venue fitted their wedding theme perfectly - slightly gothic and masqueradey (I'm pretty sure I just made up that word) with a 1920's/30's vibe.

Rock n Roll Bride Christmas Cards on Sale NOW!

Kat

November 21, 2011

Ho Ho Ho, Meeeerrrrrieee Christmas! I've been feeling seriously festive these past few weeks. I think it's something to do with a combination of The Spirit of Christmas Fair that I attended with my Mum last week (it was so FUN!), the fact that I no longer work in a job where we're forced to sell everything as a potential Christmas gift from September and because I've been working with the amazing Sugalily (who also designed the Rock n Roll Bride notebooks and 2012 wallplanners which, by the way, are still available to buy) to design a range of Rock n Roll Bride Christmas cards!

A Black Wedding Dress, A Traditional Church Wedding & A Burlesque Themed Reception: Scarlet & Craig

Kat

November 21, 2011

Scarlet & Craig's wedding wowed me as soon as I spied that dress. I was so excited to be able to share this incredible Goth extravaganza and luckily for you lot, so were the newlyweds. In fact Craig's reply when I emailed him back saying 'Yes yes, hell yes (ps your wife is hot)' was something along the lines of 'OMG so excited that you're going to feature us!!! Squeeee'. "I'd never really thought about my wedding day growing up, so when Craig proposed on a trip to Amsterdam (with a tattoo that simply said 'Marry Me' on his wrists!) I was thrown into a bit of a panic!" Scarlet explained. "But as soon as we started planning we knew we wanted to do things our own way. Luckily we found Rock n Roll Bride, which made us realise there really are no 'rules' for a wedding, and then we just went all out! We didn't start out with one, but as we went along we developed a kind of pink and black gothic fairytale theme, pink being my favourite colour, and black being Craig's!

A Sunday Kind of Love: We’re Going Through Changes…

Kat

November 20, 2011

Gareth has been a busy little bee this week. We have some pretty exciting new ideas for the blog (it's just a matter of him now implementing these grand plans, so watch this space over the next few months!) but this week he's been thinking about the bottom of the blog. Scroll down and take a look... Firstly, he's added page numbers for easier archive surfing (which I'm not entirely sure is actually a good thing, most of my early blog posts are SHOCKING!) He's also added social media links (now including Pinterest) to the footer of the blog. We've also added the much overdue subscribe/RSS button. You're welcome. Happy Sunday y'all!

Post-It Notes – 18th November 2011: Walk, Don’t Run

Kat

November 18, 2011

It's quite a simple business note this week because a) I've been poorly (oh woe is me, seriously Gareth is so annoyed with my 'milking it' - as he lovingly puts it!) and b) I've been working on my notes for my first blogging workshop* (which I've dubbed School of Rock (n Roll Bride) haha I know I'm just that cool) which is taking place in London NEXT WEEK so I'm a little bit exhausted of thinking about business type stuff if I'm honest!

Post-It Notes – 18th November 2011: Just How Much is This Wedding Going to Cost Us?

Kat

November 18, 2011

I've been wanting to put this post together for some time to give you an idea of what you might expect to pay for certain areas of your wedding. Now before I get you all hating on me, saying "But we can't afford to spend XYZ on my dress/our photos/the food" I want to make it clear that I'm certainly not writing this to show you what you should be spending. No no no, I want this post to give you a basic idea of what you might get initially quoted to save you from the mini-heart attack I had when I first realised how much wedding dresses were.

Messing About on the River: Emma & Tony

Kat

November 17, 2011

Emma & Tony had an intimate wedding of just 40 guests in Henley on Thames. Coincidentally this is where I went to college and I have a lot of fond memories of chilling out by the river, most probably while I was supposed to be in lectures - which maybe one of the reasons I love this wedding so much! Anyway, I digress... The wedding was held at The River & Rowing Museum, a modern wedding venue situated right on the river Thames. A friend of Emma's is a registrar and it was really special to have her marry them. "The museum was exactly what we were looking for," Emma told me. "The staff at the museum were fabulous, nothing was too much trouble. Laura, the events planner for the museum, coordinated the wedding and it was great having her their on the day to make sure everything ran to plan so I didn’t have to think about a thing and just enjoy the day. Jeff from Digby Trout Catering with his team delivered the most delicious food that wowed even the London foodies. The seating plan was titled ‘Eat, drink & Be Merry’ and we all certainly were thanks to Jeff and his team – what a gem."
