Festival weddings were big in 2012, huge in fact. Then 2013 rolled around and the idea exploded with more tents, tipis and rock concert weddings filling my inbox than ever before. And from the comments and emails that I still get from you guys on a daily basis, I think it's safe for me to say that this idea really isn't going anywhere for 2014 brides and grooms. When the initial email from Celeste at Tourism and Events Queensland came into The Blogcademy inbox asking us if we’d consider an all-expenses paid trip to Queensland I nearly deleted it, assuming it must be spam. I've written about many amazing alternative gift list services before, but I'm yet to find one that allows you to register for literally anything you want... until now. When Gareth and I were engaged we went with the surprisingly traditional option of a department store registry. While we had a lot of fun running around pretending we were on Supermarket Sweep, I do wish we'd know about some more alternative options. I guess they just weren't around in 2007!Read more...

Call me cynical, but these days, I can't seem to move for a new 'alternative' wedding fair. They're cropping up all over the place this year, but there was just one that started it all... In early 2012, Sassy of Assassynation Photography, Jo of The Couture Company and Rawhide Corsets and Vikki of Liliia had a dream. They dreamt of a wedding fair that was truly alternative and one that showcased only the best of the best alt wedding suppliers. Although times they are a-changing, gay and lesbian couples have been long overlooked in the wedding industry. While there are many amazing wedding suppliers that cater for and love to work with same-sex couples, there has yet to be a really cool, all inclusive wedding event that all engaged couples - no matter their preferences - can go to and feel comfortable and accepted. Sure, there have been a few magazines and events dedicated to gay weddings, but (and I hate to say it) but most of the ones I've seen have been slightly cheesy and erring on the side of tacky.Read more...

Vintage has become a bit of a dirty word in the wedding world. It's been overdone more than any trend' I've ever known... and in many cases pretty badly. But vintage weddings as a concept are beautiful and some of the most creative and beautiful weddings that I've featured have fallen under that 'vintage' banner. It's not something we ever want to think about, but the likelihood is that everything won't go perfectly to plan on your wedding day. A couple of weeks ago I actually asked via my Facebook page if anyone had anything go wrong and I was blown away by the response. I even had people emailing me separately to tell me their stories of woe! While I was at first a little nervous that all those comments would be scaring the bejebus out of you brides-to-be, I think it is important to realise that while things may not always go to plan, it will all be OK in the end.
