After getting engaged, Ben and Laura very briefly considered having a ‘normal’ wedding – but after thinking about how much planning and organising would be involved quickly vetoed that idea. “We agreed we definitely didn’t want a big wedding,” said Laura, “so when Ben cheekily suggested Vegas, I agreed immediately!”
While they didn’t have a particular budget in mind, in total for their trip they think they spent around £5,000. “Our flights and hotel were our biggest expense,” said Laura. “We figured as we weren’t splashing out on a big wedding, we should book an amazing hotel.” They saved big time by having no guests present, so there was no big catering tab to pick up, or reception venue to pay for. The both wore highstreet outfits – Laura in a jumpsuit from Coast, and Ben in Joules, and made them their own by adding accessories from Etsy and things they already owned. They relinquished extras like hair and makeup (“I dragged my hair into a low bun with my own fair hands!”) in favour of focusing on what really mattered to them – ending their day being married to each other and celebrating just got they liked it; low key and lazy.
Colour. Laughter. Desert Magic. These are just a few ways to describe today’s gorgeous vow renewal in Las Vegas! Brighton based photographer Lisa Devlin was travelling around LA and Vegas on a family holiday in October and Rebecca and Johnathan, also from the UK, decided it was an opportunity too good to miss and booked her to shoot their vow renewal at the same time! Talk about winning the jackpot!
They had their fun-filled ceremony at A Little White Wedding Chapel in their infamous Tunnel of Love. “Elvis was in full character the minute we arrived and made a fuss of us,” began Rebecca, “from helping with my shoes and asking what song we wanted him to sing, to going crazy when our photographer said she was called Lisa Marie!”
Pia and Chris met through their mutual love of Rock n Roll, when they were both using the same recording studio. Pia ended up joining Chris’ band and they’ve been playing together ever since.
They got engaged on Valentine’s Day and the very next day they found out she was pregnant! They began by trying to plan a big family wedding, with guests from New Zealand (where Chris is from) and the US (where Pia is from) travelling over to the UK (where they now live) but it all proved quite difficult and stressful with a baby on the way. In the end they decided to throw tradition completely out the window and to elope. This also negated the issue of having a religious ceremony. With the bride’s family being Hindu and the groom’s, Christian, they would have probably ended up needing two ceremonies to keep everyone happy, which they really did not want. So, with Pia seven months pregnant they flew to Vegas and were married by Elvis instead!
“Our wedding had a retro and 1970s feel with an old school Vegas vibe”, Pia said. “We are very inspired by the fashion, music and the general feeling of the 1970s so this inspired our wedding too. I love looking at old, classic weddings photos of Mick and Bianca Jagger, Priscilla and Elvis, John and Yoko and the final scene in The Graduate. I also love pictures of the Beatles in India and wanted to bring in some of those elements and my family’s traditions in with the Hindu garlands and the bindi.”
Their ceremony was held at The Graceland Chapel which they followed by taking photographs around the city with their photographer Ashley Marie Myers, ending the night with a private dinner for two at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant overlooking the Bellagio fountains.
