Colourful & Silly New York City Wedding

Colorful, silly, dance party in New York (27)

Risa and Mike had a colourful, silly, dance party wedding on a summer night in New York City. They flew British photographers Emma and Pete from Emma Case Photography over to shoot it. The day started with a ‘first look’ in Central Park and the ceremony and reception at The Foundry in Long Island.

“There was so specific theme and definitely no rules at our wedding”, Risa wrote. “We just focused on colours and dancing. We wanted a fun little mini circus. We didn’t want to have too many ‘things’ but we wanted it to feel like us. We did not want standard meals, we had no formal seating, and we didn’t have a great deal of décor, but we had a whole lot of spirit.”

Married on Stage at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre

RSC Theatre Wedding _ Gemma and Ali _ Tux and Tales Photography_5281

Ali and Gem are both into the arts, so having their wedding at the groom’s place of work, The Royal Shakespeare Theatre was the perfect choice! They wanted a wedding that reflected both of them and avoided tradition and trends at all costs! The groom actually sent me the most amazing email while they were planning their wedding (which I couldn’t help but share!) so it really is a thrill to see how their wedding turned out!

“From the very start we were inspired by Rock n Roll Bride”, they began. “Through the blog we could see that we wouldn’t be chastised for having a wedding that didn’t fit or didn’t follow a specific structure or tradition. We didn’t want tradition and grey monkey suits, but we didn’t want to be drinking out of jam jars and buying hipster centrepieces from vintage car boots either. We didn’t want to think about what cake ‘suits our personality’ or what colour theme to go for, so we just took it all one step at a time and agreed on everything together.”

“The question we most found ourselves asking was ‘Why?’ – ‘why would we leave a sugared almond for our friends?’, we hate them (the almonds, not our friends), the guests hate them, why would we do that? Why would you have a three course meal? We’re real foodies but we wanted to spend our day talking to our guests not watching them, from the back of a room, suckling on an amuse bouche. Once you start asking ‘why?’, a lot of the parts of a wedding just seem kind of odd. We didn’t want to find ‘alternative’ options to the traditional aspects of a wedding, we just scrapped things we didn’t like.”

Sock Puppet Wedding at Brooklyn Winery: Lindsay & Jesse

BG Productions-Jesse and Lindsay-65-(ZF-4210-62864-1-085)

Married at Brooklyn Winery in New York, Lindsay and Jesse’s wedding was fun, colourful and a perfect reflection of them. It wasn’t all smooth sailing, but you’d never know that to look at these beautiful pictures. The bride wore a striped dress by Hayley Paige and many pairs of custom glasses! They had paper flowers instead of real ones and a Rice Krispy cake in lieu of anything traditional.

“We decided to just do what we wanted”, began the bride. “We planned the wedding by ourselves with minimal input from friends and family. Any time we began to question our choices, we had to remind ourselves that we were doing it our way, regardless of expectations. We were largely inspired by one of our favorite artists out of Brooklyn, Marty Allen. Marty specializes in large format sock-puppet photography; his work has been a staple of our relationship, as each year we buy a new print from him at the Union Square holiday market. Our apartment is furnished with his colorful-imagination-turned-beautiful-art. We commissioned sock puppets of ourselves for the wedding, which were integral to the décor, featured prominently in our invitations, and proved to be a hit at the photo booth.”

CMYK, Comic Book and Superhero Wedding: Aysha & Tom

Stand by for probably the cutest bride I’ve seen in a long time. Rocking a gold sequinned bodice, a ballerina style skirt, retro fabulous glasses and the most adorable poofy veil, this is one babe who’s got her bridal style darn right perfect.

“We met through mutual friends at a Chromeo show in San Francisco, where I think we both impressed each other by dancing with ridiculous abandon”, began the bride, Aysha. “About a year later, had our first kiss on New Year’s Eve at a Lake Tahoe music festival. We had our wedding in the San Francisco Bay Area on a gorgeous Friday the 13th, which was also the night of a full moon. We got engaged on a 13th, so it’s a very auspicious day as far as we’re concerned.”

“We love theme parties and costumes, so we pretty quickly decided on a superhero-themed wedding”, she continued. “The theme was also a way for us to pay tribute to how amazing our guests are. We set the tone by sending out postcard invitations designed like a comic book cover. At the wedding, we named tables after some of our favorite superheroes, from She-Hulk to Sailor Moon. Our party favors were sunglasses with the inscription ‘You’re our hero!'”

“Our colour scheme was CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) as it’s also the basis of old-school comic book coloring. It reflected our love of comics and design.”

Intimate Terrace Wedding in Barcelona: Vera & Damián

happines-BCN-atticwedding-079

Vera and Damián were married in their own attic flat in Barcelona. Vera’s dad officiated the ceremony and they decorated the space themselves with things they already had, and items bought from flea markets. This was a truly DIY wedding with the focus on the ceremony and the meaning it held for them and their families.

“We wanted to have a very small wedding, very cosy and intimate, surrounded by our dearest friends and family”, wrote the bride. “The idea was to celebrate and to have a great party. We looked into venues but everything was geared towards huge gatherings and large amounts of money, which we didn’t feel comfortable with. We decided to celebrate our wedding at home, on our terrace. It was unique in the sense that it was extremely relaxed, the idea was to have fun.”

Lord of the Rings, Comic Books, and the Groom Dressed as a Power Ranger: Felicia & Joe

Well this is certainly something you don’t see everyday! I have a funny feeling you’re going to love this.

Felicia and Joe were hitched at the historic Warner Theatre in Erie, PA. The bride wore a Vera Wang gown from her diffusion line at David’s Bridal, but she had to compete with that groom of hers who rocked up dressed as his favourite Power Ranger! Who says brides get to have all the fun?

“We originally wanted to do a Lord of the Rings theme wedding, but then it kind of spiralled into several things”, she explained”. Marvel, Army of Darkness, our entire childhood games and tv shows in the favors, with a heavy touch of LOTR too. It just kind of got crazy.”

“One of the most unique things about our day was probably that Joe didn’t have a traditional suit. He wore a Power Ranger suit! My bouquet was also bouquet was origami and made from comic books. One of my ‘bridesmaids’ was also male but he still wore a dress!”
