Green & Black Latvian Forest Wedding with a Hint of Tolkien

Green & Black Latvian Forest Wedding with a Hint of Tolkien (24)

Anete and Anrijs were married in Latvia at the ruins of Zvardes Church. The styling of their wedding started with their favourite colours – black and green.

“After we picked our colours I found the amazing church ruins and instantly fell in love”, said Anete. “I knew right away that it was our place! I showed it to Anrijs and he agreed that there was no other option for the ceremony.”

“I was inspired by other forest weddings and somehow Tolkien got involved too! Maybe because when other people saw those ruins, they instantly started to talk about elves, forest fairies, literature and stuff like that. In the end it all come together really well. We can’t imagine our day in any other way.”

“The ceremony was was beautiful and personal. I also really wanted that ‘movie moment’ when you see each other just when ceremony starts. I think that there is something a little magical about it. I was walked down the aisle by my godfather and when he took my hand and Can’t Help Falling in Love started playing it was everything I dreamed it would be. I started to cry and just couldn’t stop!”

Love and Lavender

Lauren and Mike spent just £2500 on their gorgeous wedding. They were inspired by two things – the movies and lavender. “We had lots of references to the movies”, the bride said. “We are both massive film geeks and we couldn’t not have that represented on our big day. We had little hints scattered all over the place, including our Star Wars photo booth, movie quotes and movie poster illustrations around the venue, marvel confetti cones, and Mendl’s boxes for wedding favours from The Grand Budapest Hotel.”

“Our guest book was inspired by Disney’s Up Adventure Book, our hot dog stand was called Dog Years (the hot dog restaurant from American Pie) and we also made a playlist of all our favourite songs from our favourite movies including Scottie Doesn’t Know from Euro Trip. We also managed to include our favourite TV programme, Game of Thrones, with our cake toppers that were Pop Vinyl Daenerys and Khal Drogo figures. One of readings during the ceremony also came from the Game of Thrones book.”

If you’re a bit of a flower-perv, prepare to be blown away by the epic attention to detail in Faye and Chris’ Cumbrian wedding!

“We were inspired by a lot of different literature but heavily Lord of the Rings“, began the bride. “Our theme was kind of like storybook fairytale. I wouldn’t say anything we did was specifically to be alternative, but we know we wanted to do things the way we wanted. We spent the night before the wedding together sat up finishing bits and talking long after everyone else had gone to bed.”

Faye walked down the aisle to Many Meetings from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. “My dad had started me teary eyed before I even went in so hearing it almost sent me over the edge! I didn’t look up once until I got to the end of the aisle. I left my dad and youngest daughter at the end of the seating and walked the last bit alone as I didn’t want the traditional giving away. Our florists were amazing the room was incredible and the aisle lined with ferns and moss which fitted in perfectly with the tree arch I had made as a backdrop to the ceremony.”

Robot & Dinosaur Wedding on a Farm

robot and dino wedding (31)

Stephanie and Jeff planned their wedding at Zingerman’s Cornman Farms in less than a month. Incredibly, even with such a short time-frame they managed to do nearly everything themselves!

“In the vision of creating a truly personal day, there was quite a bit of DIY”, explained the bride. “We did the invitations, the place cards, the table numbers, the table runners, the flower arrangements, the gold vases, the bouquets and the boutonnières. We also spray painted the robot and dinosaur table décor, made the ribbon wands for the ceremony, and did all the graphic design.”

The ceremony was held outside the front of the main building an was officiated by two family members – Stephanie’s aunt and Jeff’s cousin. “With the huge help of my aunt, the three of us created a ceremony that we genuinely believed in and cared about”, she continued. “Jeff and I wrote our vows together the night before our wedding and recited the same ones; it was important for us to create those together.”

Budget-Friendly Scottish Beach Wedding

Ali&Andrew_CarleyBuickPhotography327

With just £5000 to spend, Ali and Andrew knew they had to get creative for their wedding. They decided to skip the traditional wedding venue, instead bravely hosting their day completely outside at a camp site by the beach in East Lothian, Scotland.

“Initially when we thought about what we would do for our wedding we thought we would go back to St Andrews, where we met, and have a huge party on the beach”, said Ali. “However this proved to be out of our budget, so we decided to downsize to East Lothian, which is much more reasonably priced. We wanted to make the wedding reflective of us, so there were nods to our shared interests of writing and comics, to Andrew’s love of Doctor Who and my fondness for bright colours!”

“The main thing was we wanted it to be fun for our guests”, she continued. “We didn’t want anyone to get cold and bored, particularly in the ‘standing around waiting for formal photos to be over’ portion of proceedings, so we instructed everyone to bring a jumper, and brought along tennis rackets, swingball and various board games.”

Casual Film-Inspired Wedding with 1950s Influences

FilmWedding_JoannaBongard_0393

Amy and Rob spent just £4000 on their quirky film inspired wedding. They did a lot of things themselves and saved the pennies by making unconventional choices, like serving fish n chips for the main meal.

“Our wedding was casual, fun and a little bit vintage, with a dash of film references thrown in for good measure”, said Amy. “We also both love the 1950s so there was some influence from there as well, particularly in my outfit.  We are both big film fans so we wanted to embrace our love of cinema by including our favourite characters in the wedding invites to give a hint at what the day had in store.”

“Our local cinemas kindly donated posters which were used to decorate the walls of the reception venue, and my back catalogue of Empire magazines really came in handy as they were used to make decorations and confetti! When the guests were tucking into their food (fish n chips!) they were treated to our favourite scores and songs from our favourite films.”
