Full-blown themed weddings are definitely getting rarer. Most of the couples I speak to say their weddings were just styled around "random stuff we liked", which is cool, but there's something a little bit extra special about weddings where everything fits perfectly together.Read more...

Gary and Traci love Halloween. So much so that they decided the best place for them to get married would be at their Halloween party in their own home. The coolest part of this wedding was that it was a complete surprise for all their guests! After telling everyone they were getting married then and there, they then assigned each attendee a roll in the celebration.Read more...

If you're sad about the fact that your wedding day will be over in a flash, why not do what Mark and Alex did and have a two-day celebration?! They wanted both parts of their wedding to have their own unique personalities, so day one was a casual fancy dress festival party, and day two had a more glamorous, sparkly theme.Read more...

Ahh Alice in Wonderland weddings, what's not to love? A childhood favourite of so many of us, it's unsurprising that we see so many weddings themed around it. Meeli and Wout's Wonderland wedding might just be one of the best I've seen though. Everyone looks spectacular in their costumes, and they've put so much effort into the décor.Read more...

Bonding through their mutual love of Disney, it was more than fitting that Brandon and Ashley were inspired by the happiest place on earth for their wedding. These guys went all out! The day was held at Rancho Las Lomas and they had a real life zebra in attendance and a mermaid... no, I'm not kidding!Read more...

Jackie always knew she wanted a pirate themed wedding, even before she met Y'ves. So when it came to this couple saying "I do" there really was only one way they were going to do it! The wedding was held on The Kajama Tall Ship, docked at The Harbourfront Centre on Queens Quay West in Toronto. They had their ceremony on the deck at 12.30, they set sail at 1 'o clock and everyone de-boarded at 5.30.Read more...

When Rob and Laura told me they had a fancy dress Alice in Wonderland/ Mad Hatter's tea Party wedding I thought "Wow that sounds cool, but I bet I've seen it all before..." Oh how wrong I was! Never in my life have I seen a wedding where everyone - the couple, the wedding party and the guests - threw themselves into it so much. These costumes are just off the hook awesome!Read more...

Kiran and Josh had a two-day wedding on the 3rd and 4th of May. Their main aim was to throw a celebration that felt very 'them' and for everyone to have a great time. Big weddings can often cost a lot, but even with their two day event, this savvy couple only spent £8500! They called in favours, DIYed a LOT and made some clever and unusual choices in order to save money. Everything from the flowers, the cake, the DJ and the stationery were either DIYed by the couple or donated by friends.Read more...

Damon & Tooty we're never going to have a wedding with a boring or standard theme. In fact as soon as they found their venue, Spring Grove House at the West Midlands Safari Park, the seed for a safari themed day was planted! "The theme came after viewing the venue", the bride began. "We saw a few places and found them booooooorrrrringg. We planned to go and see Spring Grove House but really didn't expect much from it as we had never heard of it. But when we got there we fell in love! They've kitted it out all in animal print décor including the carpets, the wallpaper and ornaments. The idea for the theme was obvious to me. I'm always wearing animal print attire and so we decided to insist our guests did the same for the wedding!"Read more...

Lauren & Matt's started their wedding planning knowing exactly what they wanted: something relaxed, stress-free and fun. They were lucky enough to have a friend whose parents own a farm, so everything else really stemmed from that. Lauren told me all about it. "As soon as we got engaged we knew how we wanted our wedding to be, we just didn't know how to do it! The first and most important thing was to find a photographer. Being a enthusiastic photographer myself, I spent weeks searching for one that she liked, we finally came across Sassy of Assassynation and sent an excited email straight away. She immediately told us to phone her for a chat as we hadn't set a date yet, but when she told us she only had 2 Saturdays free in the 3 months that we were looking at we booked her there and then! Everything else was then planned around her."Read more...

"Although there were some traditional elements to our wedding, we wanted to keep the day as informal as possible," began newlywed Anna. "We wanted a traditional wedding ceremony, but for the reception we just wanted to create a space for our friends and family to enjoy themselves. We had music all day, put out games and a fancy dress box, and left a jar of moustaches on the bar. The fancy dress box was well-used and our wedding became the chaotic festival-party we always wanted!"Read more...

So where do I begin trying to explain the awesomeness of Renee & Ian's undead steampunk wedding? I think maybe the title gives away just how amazing this wedding is going to be doesn't it? The couple were married at Catalyst, a private live/work artist community in Chicago. "We actually had to 'audition' for the space," Renee told me. "The members have a delicate relationship with the community and can't risk any trouble. We had to prove to them over several months that we talented and responsible enough to be able to use their space. We had to foster a personal relationship with them before they would even consider us. It was tedious, but worth it in the end. We gained some more wonderful friends for our already stellar collection, and the space allowed us freedom that traditional venues could not (like staying until 6am and coming back later in the week to help clean up)."Read more...

"The theme for our wedding began as a circus/carnival inspiration and grew to encompass woodland creatures, feathers and various fancy dressed individuals from badgers to unicorns, not forgetting the now infamous family of bears!" newlyweds Toby & Isa told me. "We did things differently, just simply because that's how we are and to have had any other style of wedding or traditional ceremony would have not been true to us as we are not religious. However we did have a beautiful blessing with Sally our Interfaith minister and we wrote our own wedding vows."Read more...

Ant & Lou were married in Chianti, Italy but had a massive reception party at The Kazimier nightclub in Liverpool on their return. "We wanted to get married abroad and bring with us all of the people we love dearly," Lou told me. " It was important to both of us to have our friends and family there, but to also have a very personal wedding, something that was exactly us. We found a beautiful castle in Chianti, Italy and started our wedding process from there. Everyone came on different flights at different times on different days and even though there was an ash cloud, an unexploded WW2 bomb found in Pisa airport and severe winds causing planes to be diverted, everyone got there eventually. One group of friends were travelling for 26 hours just to get from Liverpool to Tuscany! but they made it and their positivity was beautiful."Read more...

Sierra & Jake met while in the music store where Jake worked, "I shopped at the music store he worked at for a long time," laughed the bride. "I had the biggest crush but was way too shy to talk to him much. I always thought, "I want to end up with a guy just like him!" but certainly this one was out of my league. One day I was pretending to be interested in harmonicas, of all things, to get his "assistance" and he told me casually that he was joining the Marine corps. I panicked! I was running out of time to scoop up my dream man so I had to act fast. A few days later I finally got the nerve to ask him out. I decided for sure on that first date that he was the one for me. Two weeks later we started talking about marriage... crazy, I know! But here we are and he's the best thing that ever happened to me."Read more...

Hannah & Carlos' full moon/supermoon/autumn equinox/fancy dress/movie themed wedding rocks my world. I'm kind of blown away by the whole thing! The couple put so much love and attention in creating their perfect wedding that I didn't want to miss one detail...so, over to the bride... "We had a fancy dress wedding, the theme being movies. A big part of Carlos and my time together has been spent watching movies...we love them! We've shared many hours snuggled up together, going on journeys through film."Read more...
