August 5, 2018

Araba and Jon's warming winter wedding is guaranteed to make you smile, and that's not something I say lightly. With a theme of 'love and family (but also Harry Potter)', if the photos don't make you beam, the words from the lovely Jon will! When asked what makes their wedding particularly alternative, he answered "I married the greatest woman alive... also, Kate Nash played our reception and it was awesome!" And that is just the start, my friends.

Rachael & Rafe’s Pagan Handfasting Festival Wedding

Kat

September 14, 2010

Rachael & Rafe were uninterested in a traditional religious or civil ceremony so decided to get married on their own terms. They were wed by one of their closest friends, Tara, in a pagan hand-fasting service which took place outside, in a small copsed wood locally known as "The Spinney". They knew very early on in their planning that this was where they wanted to get married as the couple had spent some time living on a narrow-boat on the river, and for that period The Spinney was their garden, "It was where we hung out, relaxed, partied and where our children played. It is full of trees and love and so naturally the first place we both thought of for our ceremony" the couple told me.

A Locally Sourced Pool Party Wedding

Kat

September 7, 2010

Carmen & Gary had a laid back pool party wedding at Commons Ford Ranch, Austin. The couple actually had their first dance in the pool too! "The reception was supposed to be a dance party on the patio, with possible swimming as an afterthought, as there is a really nice pool at the ranch," the bride told me. "However as soon as dinner ended, guests were taking over the pool. We decided to move the DJ over to the pool deck since that was where the party was happening, and it became a full-blown pool party. We even had our first dance in the pool, after the official marital cannonball."

Emily & Daniel’s Classic and Caring Wedding

Kat

September 7, 2010

I've known (as in online-known) photographer Katie Malone for about 3 years. We got married about the same time and were both members of the same forum during our planning. I love when she emails me weddings she's now shooting. It's incredible how we're both still surrounded by this wedding-world after all this time...and doing it in a bad ass way of course! I've loved her photographs ever since she first started experimenting. She usesa variety of cameras to give her photographs a totally different look to anyone else's. Infrared, Vivitar ultra wide & slim, Holga & Polaroid are all used alongside her digital SLR to get her unusual and intoxicating techniques.

Kat

September 1, 2010

Do you remember Kaori & Alex's killer engagement session? It was all tattoos, awesome outfits and L.O.V.E. I have been dying to see the outcome of their wedding ever since and I ain't half excited to share it with you today. The couple were married at Old Zoo in Griffith Park, Los Angeles with a reception to follow at Señor Fish in Little Tokyo Area, Downtown LA. Both of them are designers so obviously their outfits were nothing short of unique and utterly fabulous.

Have a Wedding that is Perfect for YOU – Greg & Michelle’s Low Key, Homespun & Family-Focussed Wedding

Kat

August 31, 2010

I went out with photographer Emma Case a month or so ago and as we dolled ourselves up in the hotel room before hand she was telling me all about Michelle & Greg's wedding. She told me how it was like nothing she'd ever shot before. The contrast of the awe-inspiring and dramatic Synagogue ceremony venue with the reception being held in Greg's Grandmother's house really was the ultimate depiction of what Rock n Roll weddings should be - you don't need any of the wedding "bits" and you don't need to spend a fortune - all you need is you two, in love, and a wedding that is perfect for you.

Megan & Kevin’s Budget Conscious, Family Friendly, DIY Heavy Day

Kat

August 17, 2010

You might remember Megan from her Historic Firehouse Bridals that I featured a few weeks ago. I loved them so when her photographer Erica of Turner Creative Photography sent me the photographs of her and Kevin's wedding, I couldn't wait to share them on these pages. Even more so in fact when I found out their day was an all-out budget diy fest - one of my favourite types of weddings! I also knew that Megan hadn't worn her actual wedding dress for her bridal shoot so I couldn't wait to see what she's chosen too.

“I Can Make That!” – Roni & Dave’s Awesome, Diy, Homespun Cute-Fest Wedding

Kat

July 16, 2010

OK I am EXCITED! Roni & Dave's reception is, like, totally the most awesome diy, homespun cute-fest ever and I've got the full scoop and all the juicy details for you. I featured their wedding day shoot not so long ago and as soon as I saw Roni's adorable and oh-so-awesome homemade vintage brooch bouquet I knew the rest of their wedding was going to be awe-inspiring but I'm telling you, nothing prepared me for this! The couple's reception was held in Roni's parent's house and backyard. For the flowers and centrepieces they bought all the blooms and the watering pots from Cosco and made them all themselves. "I didn't care what kind of flowers we had or where they came from. I just knew I wanted them to look like they were just hand picked out of a field" Roni told me. They ordered the yummy looking cakes from Liberty Market (Gilbert, AZ) and Roni & her Mum added the lace and brooches as well as an adorable home made cake topper.

An Irregular Choice – A Wonderfully Theatrical British Wedding

Kat

July 12, 2010

I woke up this morning to the news that the Rock n Roll Bride Mad Hatter shoot had been blogged by Irregular Choice shoes! Seriously, how glad am I that Vivienne Westwood didn't deliver my shoes on time and Irregular Choice saved the day? I feel like all famous and stuff... I thought then it only appropriate that I blogged this gorgeous Irregular Choice bride that I'd been planning to blog this week. I saw a few pictures of bride Sophie-Jayne in her amazing Ian Stuart dress and Irregular Choice shoes on the Schuh facebook page (they blogged about our shoot too!) and knew I had to find out more about this wedding. Sophie-Jayne & Jason got married at Sophie's old College by a Reverend who used to be one of her teachers. After the very personal ceremony, everybody was transported to Sophie-Jayne's parent house for the reception in her Dad's Old Route Master Bus!

Scottish, Vintage Loveliness

Kat

July 1, 2010

I'm not one to go back on my promises, so here's the gorgeous Scottish wedding to follow on from Sean & Nicola's 'Great Outdoors' engagement session that I posted last week. The pair wanted a really laid back, family-orientated day and they chose Mugdock Park for their ceremony and The Local Town Hall for their reception. "We only really considered one option for a ceremony venue, which was Mugdock Park" they began. "It is an amazing place at the beginning of the west highland way, and we loved going there for mountain-biking, having barbecues or just strolling around. We met up with the park manager and we had to prove ourselves as fans of the park before they let us go ahead with it, as they have only 2 weddings a year there. Our wedding was set around the old castle ruins, and my younger cousins provided the uplifting music by playing the violin and clarinet."

It’s Our Wedding, Let’s P.A.R.T.Y Hard!

Kat

June 29, 2010

Wow wow wow. Kelly & Sean sure knew how to rock a wedding! From an emotional ceremony, to a family-orientated reception to a crazy-fun party, the whole day looks like an utter blast! "The one thing that we dislike about weddings is how they are all alike" they told me. "We understand its tradition and that's how its supposed to be done, but why? why is there a set pattern? We wanted our wedding to be personal to us. We wanted to start our own traditions and do things unique to our style. The theme of our wedding was basically "Things We Love" and it ended up being the perfect reflection of us. We did whatever we wanted and nixed things we disliked. we strived to make it intimate and personal. Our wedding was hands down the best day of our lives, we had everything we loved, surrounded by everyone we love and made sure to marry the heck outta the one we loved!"

Homespun & Locally Sourced

Kat

April 1, 2010

I've discovered one of my new favourite photographers! So much in fact that I emailed him to ask for not one, not two, but THREE of his weddings to feature...so hold onto your hats because over the next few days you're gonna see some serious awesome. First up is Tony & Katie's laid back, funky backyard wedding. Although the pair live in New York they opted to hold their wedding in Kentucky where all their family are based. They knew they didn't want a traditional church wedding and luckily for them Katie's grandparents allowed their home to play host to the celebrations.

With a Little Help From Our Friends…{Part 1}

Kat

March 17, 2010

The event started the day before, with everyone coming together to set up and organise for the next day's festivities. "On Thursday, after Seba and I spent two days on vacation exploring Castro, we met up with Anita, Alan, and about 30 of their closest friends." Kyle told me "We carpooled from Castro to Quicavi, another little seaside town, where we would take a boat to Voigue. But first, we had to load that bad boy up. When all was said and done, I was nearly certain that we would sink. I have never seen so much stuff packed into such a small space. I mean, pretty much the entire wedding, minus the tent, was being transported. As soon as we arrived on the island, everyone set up their tents, we ate lunch and then we got right to work — and by “we,” I mean everybody else worked really hard and Seba and I photographed them working really hard."
