When we hear the phrase 'boudoir shoot', there have been enough bad ones gone before to throw up connotations in the mind of something tacky, pandering to the male gaze, and overly sexualised for the wrong reasons. Today's editorial couldn't leave this further behind with its strong female subject who isn't looking for anyone's approval or attention, fresh and contemporary greenery, and a bright palette of whites, greens and pinks. And if that entire sassy black underwear range isn't in your online shopping basket by the time you're done here, we need to have words.

Boudoir shoots are nothing new. Hell, I had one when I was engaged in 2007 (and no I'm not going to show you them!) While lots of brides might consider doing them, I'd have to hasten a guess that a lot of you reading this might have dismissed the idea as something silly, vein and super embarrassing. While in 2007 the main marketing push for boudoir photos was an "a gift for your man" (vom) ten years later and I'd still like to encourage you to consider doing one, but as a gift for YOURSELF.

I'm sure I've written about this before, but while I love the thought of girls celebrating their bodies, stripping off and feeling sexy, I've just seen all to many boudoir shoots that are, forgive me, but so so wrong. A bit tacky, kinda cheesy or just plain slutty. Yeah, I said it... so sue me. But this is not one of those cases.

I have a love/hate relationship with boudoir photography. On the one hand, I think every gal should have the opportunity to feel sexy, and being photographed with that pre-wedding glow - either as a gift for your beloved or a treat to yourself - is a great way to boost the confidence. However I don't generally feature that many of these shoots, because, forgive me, but a lot of the ones I see are somewhat tacky... or trashy... or just not very sexy at all. Whoever decided feather boas can make the transition from hen do tack to boudoir class needs a stern talking to. There are exceptions of course, but in my experience they are few and far between. Well I'm pleased as punch to report that, again, I've been proved wrong with today'

There are boobs...nice boobs...but boobs none the less...** Most of you will have noticed that I don't feature a whole load of boudoir on Rock n Roll Bride. It's not that I don't like it, but I guess my opinion is the same as that on engagement shoots - the photos are amazing for the people involved (show me a man who wouldn't want to see his bride to be all sexified-up for him pre-wedding?) but for us non-involved people, once you've see one hot lady in sexy undies jumping around on a bed you've seen 'em all...

The trend for brides to organise a pre-wedding boudoir shoot to commemorate their pre-wedding self, as well as provide their husband's to be with a sexy memento of just how lucky they are (!) is one that has gained momentum over the past few years. Not many of you will know this, but Iactually did a similar shoot before I got married! Needless to say it wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be (it was the first professional photo shoot I'd ever done!) and Gareth erm...LOVED the results! One of the poineers in boudoir photography are For Your Eyes Only. The studio based company is run by women for women! They company was set up in 2002 by Alexandra Burns - her idea being to create stunning images of gorgeous women of all shapes and sizes.
