Celestial Meets Sparkle Wedding (with Dogs!)

Bryony said she always wanted to get married on their anniversary, so when she and James got engaged (on their 4th anniversary) and she realised that not only did their 6th anniversary fall on a Saturday but the date was 22/02/2020, it was settled! They opted for a celestial theme very early on and as shes not a fan of flowers, they didn’t have any! Instead of floral bouquets and buttonholes, she made star and moon ones out of glittery card (which cost lest than £50 in materials!) She also made their cake and place names. Her dad made the moon photo backdrop and her mum made her iridescent sequined skirt using a YouTube tutorial!

“We felt really lucky to have all these creative people around us who practically jumped at the chance to help us,” Bryony said. “I tried on some ‘proper’ dresses but none of them felt like me. My top was second hand from Depop (with a Primark vest underneath), my headpiece was Crown and Glory and I found my veil on Etsy.”

In total they spent around £6000 on the day, keeping costs low was helped by all of the DIY and finding a new venue that exactly suited their needs and budget. Around half the budget was on food and drink and they splashed £500 on hiring a Routemaster bus, but to them it was totally worth it as it was such a fun experience and made for great photos!

“I didn’t want our wedding to look like I had just copied everything from Pinterest so I made it as personal to us as I could”, she continued. “I’m sure there were little details that a lot of the guests weren’t even aware of. Our wedding rings were engraved with a map of the stars the date and time we got engaged, and then I named all of our tables after stars, constellations and planets that were on that star map. I really wanted our love for each other to shine through above all else.”

I’ll Give You The Moon: A Sparkly, Celestial Winter Wedding

Sophie and Stewart’s November wedding proves, wholeheartedly, that you don’t need to stick to traditions, drop the equivalent of a house deposit or starve your way into a too small dress to have a beautiful wedding. Married at Basingstoke Register Office with a reception at The Crown and Cushion in Minley afterwards, they had a budget of £11,000 and achieved absolutely everything they wanted.

“As someone who found wedding planning extremely testing on my mental health, I have to thank Rock n Roll Bride for creating such a delightfully welcoming and inspiring space”, Sophie writes. “Picking up the magazine on release day made planning fun, at times when I was find it hard. I am a UK Size 18, and as a plus size bride in particular, seeing others with figures like me made me feel like there was no wrong way to be a bride.”

I Love You to the Death Star & Back: Colourful & Eclectic Wedding with a Drag Boy-lesque Performance!

There is SO MUCH you’re going to love about Helen and Joel’s bright and eclectic wedding… least of all the incredible burlesque (boy-lesque!) performance that was a total surprise for the bride and groom! They were inspired by all the things that love the most: Colour, Star Wars, beer and crafts, and they did oodles of DIY. From the paper flowers to the bouquets, the flower wall to the custom stationery and signs, all of it was homemade.

The ceremony was led by the bride’s sister. “We spent a lot of time trying to figure out how we could honour our love, but also the support and love of our community”, explained the bride. “We decided to have the ceremony in an intimate space, with our guests standing in a circle around us, much like a big hug from those who had been there for us throughout our relationship. It’s hard to describe how connected and supported I felt when I stepped out from behind the curtain and saw the room. It was so intimate! I could literally see the joy in the eyes of my friends and my family. And in the middle – my love, encircled with the love and support of all our people! We continued this circle theme by having a circle flower altar on the ground, symbolising the eternal and infinite bounds of love, that we were about to commit to and declare for each other.”

Friday 13th Galaxy Themed Backyard Wedding

Amy and Emil tore up the wedding rule-book from the very beginning of their wedding planning; they held their big day in the bride’s parents’ backyard and kept it small and intimate. They didn’t have a bridal party, instead wanting all their guests to sit back and enjoy the ceremony together. They even got married on Friday 13th – unlucky for some, but as the couple started dating on a Friday 13th and got engaged the same date a few years later, it only made sense for them to continue their lucky streak!

Instead of a traditional afternoon ceremony followed by wedding breakfast, the couple opted for a sunset ceremony, enjoying dinner with their nearest and dearest beforehand. After their first look, Amy was walked down the aisle by both her parents. Their officiant was Amy’s father, who performed a ceremony that Amy had written entirely from scratch. It included readings by their friend and an exchanging of vows that Amy and Emil had written for each other. Their ‘I Do’s were sealed with a kiss and confetti poppers, and then they headed inside to party!

Star Spangled NYC Elopement

Beth and Dave decided to elope to NYC as they wanted a relaxed and fun day that was filled with all their favourite things! “Dave and I are not very confident people, so the thought of a big ceremony, with all eyes on us and expectations to be a certain way wasn’t something either of us wanted to do,” explained Beth. “We love New York so decided to hotfoot it to our favourite city, ignore the opinions of others and have the day we both wanted!”

Their elopement shunned tradition from start to finish – they spent the morning together, enjoying some down time drinking coffee and eating cannolis before parting ways to get ready. “It was so nice to share the excitement of the morning together, and also to have some time to relax before the hectic day ahead,” said Beth. “I’ll never forget the way Dave looked at me when we met up to leave for the ceremony!”

Playful Adventure Themed Wedding… with a Husky Ring Bearer!

Chris and Luana met completely through happenstance: Chris was on his way home from a pool party with friends, when they decided to stop for food. Luana happened to be working the counter that fateful evening, and the rest, they say, is history. They had their rehearsal dinner at the very same restaurant nearly 10 years later.

After Chris proposed at their annual trip to Coachella, the couple married at the Los Angeles River Centre and Gardens in an outdoor ceremony, with a reception at the same venue after.

The couple knew from the start that their rescue pup, Roky, would be involved in the ceremony, and he made the most of his moment in the spotlight by barking at the priest during their blessing! “Everyone else was quiet so he thought it was his turn to speak up and give us his own blessing” laughed Luana. “It was one of my favourite moments of the whole day”.
