Intimate Americana Ghost Town Wedding in Arizona

I love today’s couple, Olivia and Joseph, for their do-no-harm-and-take-no-shit approach to wedding planning. Their intimate Ghost Town wedding was nothing short of breathtaking – just the two of them in Jerome, Arizona, getting ready together and then getting married (and livestreaming it!). Although it wasn’t an elopement, they turned their wedding into an awesome adventure, and a stunning one at that.

High school sweethearts – bonding over a Set Your Goals t-shirt and having their first conversation about Dave Grohl – they’d been engaged for almost five years. “Every time we started to talk about a wedding, we would get overwhelmed,” Olivia explains. “Money, travelling, communications… it all just seemed like a lot. In August 2017, Joseph opened up a copy of the Phoenix New Times and saw an ad for somewhere in Jerome. We just kind of agreed that that would be where we were wed, then we decided on Halloween, and everything just evolved from there.”

A Utah Mountain Engagement

Brittany and Dave engagement shoot gives me all of the feels! I very rarely featured pre-wedding sessions, but this one is so awesome I couldn’t help posting them anyway. What a bunch ‘o babes! It also can’t just be me that thinks Brittany looks exactly like Christina Aguilera right?

“Brittany and Dave are just these super hip and laid back people”, said photographer Amy. “They have an edgy side but wanted a more earthly feel for their images. What better earthy place than on a mountain top in Utah?”

Mountain Lodge Wedding with a Kitten ‘Bouquet’!

Mountain Lodge Wedding (16)

Jenaya and Benjamin’s wedding was inspired by their venue, Kachess Ridge Resort, a private hire rustic log cabin. “Our theme was log cabin meets creepy romantic”, said the groom.

The ceremony was held in the main living room of the cabin. “We had our dear friend officiate and he offered his love with challenges and blessings. Jenaya walked down the aisle to our friend Emily singing Yours by Elle Hendersen. She was holding a kitten instead of a bouquet! Our kids were our whole wedding party and they did great. We wrote our own vows. Everybody cried.”

“For the food we had everybody bring their own special recipes for chilli and pies! My mom made cornbread and honey butter from the bees that my dad keeps. It brought such a sense of community and the food was better than any caterer. I mean, how can you beat family chilli recipes in the fall?”

British-born Aisling and Australian Jeremiah met in Vancouver. Although they now live in Australia, they wanted to go back to where they first met to be married. “Our wedding theme was ‘Two Worlds Collided’, began the bride. “The INXS song of the same name was how it all began it was our song from the day we met. It suits us because our personalities and tastes are very different. We are from two different countries. We had two different wedding locations and I ended up with two wedding outfits.”

They were married on Grouse Mountain and had their reception at at the Clough Club in Vancouver. The bride’s ceremony dress was vintage and she bought on a trip home to the UK. “I never wanted to get married in white, too traditional, I wanted gold and glitter”, Aisling explained, “but when I tried on this white dress (clichĂ© but the first one) my aunties and mum fell in love. I still couldn’t wrap my head around a white dress though, so we kept looking and that’s why we ended up with two dresses one white and one gold! I couldn’t let go of the white dress so it became my ceremony dress. It was gorgeous, simple, bright white and it fitted so perfectly. My evening outfit was vintage gold culottes which I had altered into a strappy number perfect for a Vancouver summer wedding. It was the perfect dancing outfit.”

Intimate Mountain-View Wedding in Banff

Amanda and Keith wanted a small wedding on their own terms, so they headed up to Juniper Hotel & Bistro in Banff National Park for an intimate ceremony followed by a great meal with their small number of guests.

“Our wedding was inspired by our flare for tattoos and being our crazy selves”, said the bride. “We wanted something small that reflected our love of being outside and of being different to other people.”

“We loved doing a first look. Cassie, our photographer, had us hide out in the woods behind the Juniper. She instructed Keith to stand facing the tress and not turn around. I could tell he was nervous. I was giggling the whole time I was walking up to him, excited and nervous. Then he opened his eyes and all of a sudden my nerves went away. We were both laughing hysterically. We were finally getting married!”

Yes, You Can Have the Understated Elopement of your Dreams!

adorable utah elopement (22)

Full disclosure: this isn’t a real wedding… BUT I had to feature it anyway because I love the idea of running away to a mountain and having an adorable and completely understated elopement ceremony!

“I have always wanted to photograph a real, true elopement and have never gotten the chance!” wrote wedding photographer Brittni Willie. “I think being from Utah, most brides think they must have elaborate weddings with everyone they know (and don’t know) in attendance and I wanted to challenge that and show people how beautiful and yet simple an elopement can really be.”

“I suggested the idea to one of my previous wedding couples two days before we actually shot the elopement. We planned the whole thing in two days which I also thing really adds to authenticity I wanted to capture in the shoot. There were multiple parts of this session that I didn’t want to feel forced, or include too many vendors (if any) and spend hours of shooting to get 5 ‘perfect’ shots. We spent $80 in total. I wanted it to feel REAL.”
