November 6, 2013

Evelynne and Evan were married in Kings Cross St Pancras station. A weird place for a ceremony you might think, but it meant a lot to them as a couple. "With me being from Brazil and Evan being from America, travel is very much a recurring theme in our lives", wrote Evelynne . "We decided to get married at St Pancras Station as it is just a stunning building and we wanted the place to speak for itself without too many props."

Insect and Creepy Crawly Themed Wedding: Tessa & Matthew

October 20, 2013

It's not everyday you see an insect themed wedding, so needless to say I was both grossed out and super excited (in equal measure!) when Tessa and Matthew's wedding landed in my inbox. The bride is an artist, known for her work consisting of insect carcasses, plant roots and other found materials. So, clearly, her wedding was never going to be 'normal'. Even the wedding cake had sugared caterpillars and insets crawling all over it and one guest even showed up with real ants and beetles stuck to his bald head!

They met in Manchester in 2001 while they were both at University. He asked her to join his band even though he didn't have one yet. At their Islington wedding, 12 years later, many of the friends they made during this time were there as witnesses. "We considered many themes briefly but decided in the end just to try to make the day as relaxed and informal as we could while still making it feel like a special event", explained the bride. "We just wanted to get everyone together for some good food, wine and dancing and worked the rest around that. We did sneak a few sci-fi and superhero references in though!"

Eclectic East End Wedding Tea Party: Cassandra & Howard

October 14, 2013

Cassandra and Howard were married at The Roost in Dalston, London, a photographic studio and shooting location. Because it wasn't a traditional wedding venue it meant their whole day was really chilled out and non-traditional, but also that they could completely plan it the way they wanted. "We’d had a really small and intimate wedding ceremony in Cornwall with just our immediate families so we wanted to throw a vintage wedding tea party for friends and relatives here in London", began the bride. "The Roost was an amazing find. It's a former Victorian pub in deepest, darkest Dalston converted into a four floor photographic and film shoot location. My heart skipped a beat the first time we viewed it. It was perfect. I just loved the eclectic vintage vibe and ‘out there’ style of the place. From the gorgeous House Of Hackney wallpapers, to the giant props, old film posters and quirky paintings on the wall. We were just blown away."

Homemade Crumbling Chapel Wedding: Wendy & Alex

Assassynation

October 1, 2013

When Wendy and Alex started looking for a venue for their July wedding, they were stuck. They wanted somewhere quirky and creative but also somewhere that didn't break the bank. Luckily they stumbled across Asylym Arts in North London, a disused chapel that is now hired out for weddings and events. The space has a crumbling almost derelict vibe which they loved. The dramatic backdrop meant they didn't need to decorate much, so they just added candles, tea lights and simple flower arrangements around the room.

Dr Who Wedding Inspiration

This shoot is certainly going to appeal to all you Whovians out there. Come on then, tell me, who's having Dr Who influences in their wedding? "Ever since I became a fan of Doctor Who I’d wanted to do a styled shoot and combine it with one of my other favourite things in life: weddings, of course!" explained photographer Kat Forsyth. "I’d seen a couple of Who-themed shoots around, but I always felt that none of them got it quite right; they were either really pretty, floral and sparkly, or a little too much like a cheesy costume party. I was sure that by assembling a hand-picked team of Doctor Who geeks (read: experts), we could come up with a shoot that not only captured the quirky and fun aspect of the show, but also the atmosphere."

Lisa Jane

August 10, 2013

When some of my favourite wedding suppliers get together for a shoot at one of my favourite locations (we shot the Crown and Glory headpieces in the same studio!) I get very excited indeed... and even more so when they ask if I'd like to feature the results afterwards! Wedding photographer Lisa Jane explains, "Elbie posted a picture on twitter one day, asking if anyone wanted to get involved in an inspiration shoot inspired by it and I took one look and jumped at the chance to collaborate with her. Within minutes we also had the lovely Jo from The Couture Company offering to design us a dress for it and Abby From Cherished Vintage offering headpieces. It was amazing to be able to get creative without any restrictions. Everyone let their imaginations run wild."

We Heart Pictures

August 5, 2013

When Kirsty and Steve planned to marry they knew they wanted tradition to play no part in it. This started with their surname. Instead of keeping their own names or one of them taking the other's they decided to merge their two names to create a brand new one. So Kirsty Foster and Steve Pate became Mr & Mrs Fate! When it came to capturing their wedding day they wanted photos that were bright, romantic, playful, with a little kooky edge. June 26, 2013

Marina and Darren were married at The Prince Albert pub in Camden. Their day was simple but elegant and beautiful. The bride read the term 'rustic luxe' in a bridal magazine and that seemed to fit them perfectly! "Our wedding was full of beautiful rustic touches, like the flowers and picnic baskets, mixed in with a bit of 1920s glamour to give it a luxurious feel," she explained. "Birds played a small part, as we had become a pair of Finches! We wanted the overall day to feel relaxed and the evening to be like a bloody good night out!"

June 14, 2013

Sharon and Huw didn't really wanted to have a wedding theme but through just picking things they liked they ended up with a wedding that reflected their love of music and of London. "When we started to plan the wedding we were adamant that we were not going to have a theme but I think we ended up with a London one", Sharon began. "It was so important to us to get married in the city that we live in and which we love and incorporating iconic features such as the routemaster bus and vintage taxi for transport just felt like the natural thing to do."

Silly and Fun DIY Wedding: Chloe & Hamish

June 11, 2013

Chloe and Hamish were married in London in April. They wanted their wedding to be fun, silly and totally non-traditional. They were thrilled at how everything went down, starting with their ceremony at Hackney Town Hall. "Hamish is obviously not Hamish's given name, and it hasn't been legally changed", began Chloe. "The registrar was happy to refer to her as Hamish throughout the ceremony, but had to use the given name once. I won't say what it is, but it doesn't suit her at all and it always makes me laugh. I thought I'd probably have to suppress a grin, but when the moment came I absolutely collapsed in fits of laughter and couldn't compose myself, which set all the guests off too. I think that set the tone for the entire day!"

When wedding photographer Emily Johnson ran a trash the dress competition on Rock n Roll Bride, she hoped she might find some cool babes to shoot. And, oh boy, did she!
