Heartfelt & Bohemian Joshua Tree Wedding

Heartfelt & Bohemian Joshua Tree Wedding (45)

Elizabeth and Capac were married in Joshua Tree National Park. The got ready together at Tile House, a rainbow clad rental in the desert, followed by an intimate outdoor ceremony and a low key reception with their guests at The Inn of The Seventh Ray in Topanga.

“We met on Venice Beach just as the sun was setting”, said the bride. “I was reading a play and on my own, Capac was with his friend. We discussed the flower market in London and then met a couple of weeks later and stood under a cherry tree in DTLA catching the blossoms.”

“Our wedding ceremony had a bohemian desert theme. We decided to have a Native American ceremony surrounded by the people we love. We wrote it ourselves, including several traditional Native American rituals such as the smudging of the wedding party and the placing of a wedding blanket over the bride and groom’s shoulders. We also wrote our own vows. The ceremony allowed us to not only strengthen our bond with each other but also to nature.”

Love’s Highway: Eloping in the Desert

The desert is one of my favourite places. It wasn’t always (dusty, dry, hot..!), but after visiting Nevada four or five times now, I’ve finally succumbed to it’s charms. It’s just so enormous and spectacular! It’s the kind of landscape that you’ll never see anywhere else so is it any surprise then that so many couples opt to drive out there for their wedding shoots?

This wedding inspiration shoot was put together by planner/ stylist Paloma Cruz Eventos. “The idea behind this shoot was a couple eloping in secret”, she explained. “This couple doesn’t follow the rules!”

Smoke Bomb Elopement in Nevada

Smoke Bomb Elopement in Nevada (24)

Anne-Marie and Patrick flew out to the Nevada desert for their elopement. They hired Victoria of Flora Pop to officiant their intimate ceremony. “I had been looking at weddings on Rock n Roll Bride for three years!”, said the bride, “So I knew I wanted something quirky and with kawaii style for our wedding. We wanted to keep things small and just for us – this definitely wasn’t the usual traditional wedding. It was just like we wanted. About two people in love, not about everyone else, just us.”

“We’d originally planned a big reception at home but planning it was not fun and it was looking like it was going to be very expensive. We had just booked our first holiday to The States two months before our original wedding date so we just decided that we would elope while we were there! It all had to be planned very quickly once we had flights booked. Once I found Flora Pop everything fell into place from there.”

secret las vegas wedding (40)

I promise you this isn’t a staged photo shoot, it’s really Jason and Aimee’s wedding! Are these guys the actual coolest or what!? They were hitched in secret in Vegas last October.

“We met at a coffee shop where I was working”, explained Aimee. “Jason has just moved back to Brisbane. Our wedding was themed around old school Hollywood glam… but in Vegas!”

“We were inspired by the desert and the appeal of the intimacy of just the two of us. We loved that it was just about us and we loved walking the streets of Vegas at night, madly in love.”

The ceremony was held at The Little White Chapel. “Elvis sang us down the aisle. The room was perfect! Like something out of a Tarantino film… And it was just us, best friends, promising one another that we would no longer have to walk alone.”

Burning Man Wedding

Burning Man is a place where anything goes, so it was the perfect place for Angela and Michael’s to have the wedding they’ve always dreamt of. “We were married at Burning Man so our theme was loosely a mixed interpretation of a royal wedding”, the bride said. “In truth, weddings are rarely just about the bride and groom and we wanted a wedding that was just about us. We already had tickets to Burning Man and had heard about people getting married there so once the idea was put forth it was an easy decision to make. When we told our families our plans they were completely unsurprised. Apparently running away to the desert is completely in-keeping with our personalities and reputation!”

“Pretty much everything about our wedding was different!” she continued. “Our outfits, the setting, our vows which we wrote ourselves, the fact we incorporated a beer toast in the wedding. Michael also took my last name.”

“We were married in front of the Temple in Black Rock City. We read our own vows in a ceremony we’d put together with our officiant and capped it off with a beer toast. After the ceremony, the designer of the temple approached us. It turns out he had walked by and stopped to watch the ceremony and was overwhelmed that we had decided to get married in front of his creation. Many hugs and tears ensued.”

Terrarium & Desert Glam Wedding

Terrarium wedding in Austin (15)

Carmen and Doug were initially dreading the wedding planning process, but when they realised that didn’t have to do the traditional stuff, it became so much fun! “I had these images in my mind of priests, Hilton convention centres, big shiny bridesmaid dresses and drunk cousins”, Carmen said. “Then I realised that our wedding could be whatever we wanted it to be, and I found the whole process really fun. Drunk cousins made an appearance, of course, but it was still fun!”

Their ceremony was officiated by the groom’s brother at Mercury Hall, Austin. “He has a really witty, dry, irreverent sense of humour and we told him to do whatever he wanted, knowing we wouldn’t be disappointed”, she continued. “He put together a hilarious little diddy with references to my beauty pageant past, Doug’s video game addiction, and some really funny ancient and biblical wedding traditions. We did the ceremony under a big live oak tree. At some point in the planning process I found some pictures of a couple who made a succulent wall to get married in front of. I sent it to my mom and asked if she be interested in making one herself, and much to my surprise she said yes. It ended up being A LOT of work on her part, but it was really gorgeous. Thanks mom!”
