I don't think it'll come as a massive surprise to any of you that the vast majority of newly-weds I interview say that they wanted their wedding to reflect them. They took their mutual passions and combined them to create a wedding that felt individual, authentic and unique. But it might shock you to hear that a lot of brides I chat to pre-wedding tell me that they're really worried about whether their mish-mash of ideas will work together. I mean, when you have a set theme it's pretty easy to know what's going to go... but Halloween, Lego and sparkles? Do those things work side by side?

Blyth and Jeff chose Blair Castle in Scotland at their wedding venue. With the groom loving all things Scotland and the bride actually being Scottish, it was the perfect place for them. "Jeff and I met online", Blyth told me. "We contacted each other at the exact same time and agreed to meet a few weeks later. On our first date we discovered we shared a birthday, as well as some real chemistry. One year later, he popped the question on a deserted beach in Antigua, complete with sunset and horses swimming in the ocean. We decided on a castle venue and searched high and low to find the right one. When I viewed St Brides Kirk, the roofless ruined chapel on the grounds of Blair Castle, I fell for it immediately and knew we had to be married there."

Anna and Jack wanted a fun wedding with a party atmosphere. So they hired their venue, Inshriach House, for the entire week, and stayed there in the run up with some of their guests. "We wanted the wedding to be a big fun party with as many of our nearest and dearest as possible", Anna said. "We wanted our personalities and sense of humour to shine through. We wanted to get to married in the highlands, near my hometown of Kingussie and we felt the best way to do this was to organise most things ourselves and to have equal input and responsibility."

Jessica and Dashiell eloped in June at Migdale Water Mill Cottage in Migdale, Scotland. The bride wore a gorgeous vintage dress from the 1930s. "After calculating the cost of a big wedding for family and friends, we agreed that we’d be much happier spending 1/3 of the cost for a small ceremony in the Highlands", she said. "It was simpler and more appropriate to find a beautiful location rather than to attempt to make a location beautiful."
