Casey & Richard’s Sunny, Seaside, Sailor Wedding

My original plan today was to head out into my garden and take some snowy snaps for Photography Friday…however as I stared blankly through my kitchen window I had second thoughts and realised that it’s flippin’ COLD out there and you know what!? I’d rather stay here, wrapped in my slanket (blanket with sleeves – oh yes that is Rock n Roll!) For some further justification, I’ve got an amazingly SUNNY wedding from South Africa to share instead. This should warm your cockles…

Casey & Richard tied the knot on the 15th May 2010 (sunny!) They had the fabulous We Love Pictures there to capture their stripey seaside shindig. “We chose an old sugar baron’s estate cottage as our wedded haven – our family and friends descended from near and far to prep for the day and celebrate the occasion,” explained the couple. Dressed in a tea-length 50s Audrey Hepburn style frock with simple pumps to match, Casey traipsed to her husband-to-be thorough a thicket of coastal lushness. “Our crew were seated and standing in a clearing, aptly named  ‘The Glades’ – shielded by sunhats and paper parasols”, they continued. “The scene was decked out with paper daisies, white ottomans, picnic blankets, deck chairs and a tree draped in white with ribbons hanging down.”

“The pre-drinks consisted of wicked refreshers with names like ‘ pink polka dot bikini’ and ‘blue lagoon’. After ‘tying-the-knot’ in true sailor fashion – signifying our union – we paraded to the beach through a cacophony of streamers and screams. Guests enjoyed yoghurt lollies as we gathered round our sandcastle for the obligatory group snap. Table settings with flags, each grouped around a sandcastle, indicated basket-sharing teams for the picnic which followed. We took our wedding snaps on the beach, guided by a giant bunch of red and white balloons. Those were my favorite moments – mad wind and beach swept happiness.”

“Our guests engaged in a stripey seaside themed photo booth before we set down to our alfresco feast – a picnic and then fish braai under cloud-breaks of swing tunes and jazzy electro melodies. A tower of giant meringues were sparkled alight before we cut our stripey red and white wedding cake. The sweet table was ravaged, only two petit fours remained from a sizey spread of sweet offerings. The party set off with a bang in our transparent bunting flagged tent – and we entered the wee hours with a shebang and shoo-wop. It was certain, we were better together.”

See, how much better is reading that than seeing more snow photos?!

Issy Loves her Dress

Issy’s ‘Love your Dress’ shoot took place in Raphael Park, Gidea Park in Essex. Her dress was by designer Ugo Zaldi and her hairband was actually found at BHS!

Issy has a love of the 1960’s and has a really classic look from that era with her cute pixie crop hair, so the whole styling of the shoot, from Issy’s dress to the props, was set around this vibe.

(Pink) Caravan of Love

Kate & Charles had a vintage, punky and pink (caravan!) wedding on the Isle of Wight. As soon as I saw Kate in her incredible 1950’s cotton lace Fur Coat No Knickers vintage gown I knew I wanted to feature them “They made the bow birdcage veil out of a back panel of the dress and sourced the most beautiful velvet ribbon sash to finish off the dress” the bride told me.

The ceremony took place at Newchurch All Saints Church, Newchurch, Isle of Wight with a reception following at a friend Nick James’ house – Redway Manor Farm. They hired an Indian tent complete with low bench seating, floor cushions and gorgeous lamps from their friend’s Ed & Ana at Ed’s Tents and borrowed the pink ‘Honeymoon Caravan’ from their friend Mel, which the couple slept in that night.

They chose not to ignore a lot of the traditional wedding formalities and just went with the things that mattered to them. They didn’t have bridesmaids or groomsmen and made sure that all the important people in their lives were a big part of their day.

Charles’ Mum made the cupcakes. “She went cupcake crazy and baked up a dizzying array of cupcakes for the afternoon tea party from cherry cheesecake and spiced apple through to jam doughnut cupcakes, along with a couple of bouquet of cupcakes made by his sister Roz. However, the star of the show was a 3 tier pork pie cake complete with a Lego bride and groom which looked just like us!”

“Dirt Don’t Hurt” – Crazy Outfits, Silly String & All Out Neon Fun

This ccccrazy couple had a pretty mad wedding followed by an equally (in fact maybe more so) insane trash the dress style shoot. Alongside their photographers, Steph & Ryan wanted to show that the assumptions that some couple’s have about trash the dress aren’t necessarily true and trash the dress shoots don’t literally have to mean your dress is completely destroyed. However by not be afraid of getting the dress a little bit dirty, you really can end up with some totally unique images. I wanted to share a selection from both the couple’s wedding and photo shoot as I know both sets of photos bring a huge smile to your face! I love these two!

For their ‘dirt don’t hurt’ shoot the couple went all out will silly outfits, crazy wigs, silly string, creative make up and a whole lot of neon! There is no doubt in my mind that you are going to love these.

Be sure to watch the video after the ‘jump’ too!

Talking about their wedding, the couple explained “Our inspiration was basically to live up our day to the fullest by keeping a bit of our conservative background while adding in extra flare to show our personalities. We wanted to be creative but not so much to scare our Grandma’s away.”

“We knew that this wedding would be crazy considering our friends and family so we tried to incorporate their personalities into all of our choices for decoration/wardrobe. I think another thing to add is the chicken limo. Since it was meaningful to us (our first date) we wanted to have it pick us up at the church directly after the ceremony. Most of the attendees of the wedding knew about this part of our history, so it was a nice surprise and added quite a bit of uniqueness to our wedding.”

Rock n Roll Hearts & Paper Cranes – Lauren & JP’s Perfectly Rockin’ Wedding

Lauren & JP’s amazing wedding video has certainly done the blog-land circuit, but have you seen their gorgeous photographs?! Well my little kittens, guess which blogger has got them to share with you all?! Oh yes the PINK one that’s who!

I got chatting to the bride all about their day. Enjoy…

“We started planning this shin-dig a year ago, and our initial goals were to have a fancy but fun party– a celebration that was filled with our closest friends and family. We wanted the whole thing to be a reflection of us. For instance, our food consisted of 4 sections: German, American, Italian, and Asian-Fusion. Bratwurst, soft pretzels, sliders, bruschetta, and chinese take-out boxes just to name a few items. We wanted it to all be on small-bite side, so people could run to the bar, run to get food, and then go back to dancing, mingling, etc.”

Blake & Megan’s Vintage, Diy, Anniversary Sesh

Blake & Megan have been married a few years but wanted to do a new photo shoot to reflect who they are as a couple right now (I’m hoping to convince Gareth to do the same thing soon – the latest photos we have of us together are our wedding photos. In these he has a shaved head (he now has long hair) and I have brown hair – we couldn’t be more different now!)

Blake & Megan and their photographer Daniel & his wife hunted in vintage shops, independent stores & consignment shops for the perfect vintage-inspired outfits and props, and everyone spent a long time on diy projects to make everything personal and perfect. On the day, they shot in Daniel’s back garden as well as a secret woods nature centre in downtown Ft. Lauderdale.

Roll Up, Roll Up for Vishaka & Dean’s Incredible Circus-Inspired Wedding!

This is a wedding I have been looking forward to featuring for over a YEAR! I first heard about Vishaka & Dean’s plans for a circus themed wedding from their friend Rhiannon Burton of Under the Cherry Moon who was designing them some custom invitations and props for the wedding. I knew from chatting to Rhiannon all that time ago that I would love the wedding and I certainly wasn’t wrong!

Vishaka & Dean got married last summer (The wedding has been featured in this month’s Brides magazine, hence the epic wait until I was allowed to feature them!)  in Corsley, Wiltshire. The theme for the day was a circus-inspired day of fun. There was dressing up and a trampoline; there were hay bales and a secret treehouse with munchies hidden in it; there was a strong man and a lion, a lucky dip and a big top and come the evening time there were smores, sparklers and a bonfire. The tables were named after different circus acts and the place names were badges that the guests could wear later.

Vishaka & Dean even made the strong man and lion backdrop and 15 guests entered cakes to their baking competition, which provided desert.

Aaaaah-mazing. I certainly think it was worth the wait don’t you? Be sure to check out the full vendor list after the ‘jump’ and all the images – the attention to detail is utterly incredible.

Anniversary Love – A Vintage, Park Picnic

Oh I love featuring anniversary shoots. I get excited and all mushy to see how in love you guys are even after a few years of marriage…and of course they mean that there is no end to the inspiration I can give you – so don’t stop reading Rock n Roll Bride just because you’re married you hear!?

Sarah & Ben, have been married for 4 years and wanted to do a vintage rustic themed anniversary shoot in a park. They had a sweet lazy picnic going with apples and antique coca cola bottles where they could lie in the grass and enjoy the sun. They also climbed a tree together, wrote love letters on a typewriter, and listened to records. Their outfits were handpicked from estate sales, thrift stores, and Etsy and the props they brought – a portable record player, records, a birdcage, and a typewriter – were also from thrift & antique stores or passed down from family members.

Retro Park Picnic

Leslie & Paul’s retro, picnic engagement took place at Bartram Gardens which is a historical landmark and the oldest botanical garden in the U.S. Leslie is a hair stylist so it was obvious that their hair would look fabulous but they also went all out with the props and styling to create a really authentic 1940’s – 50’s vibe.

Whimsical Rustic Vintage

Christina & Zack met up with photographers Katelyn Mizell of Split Second Photography and Shauna Maness of Shauna Maness Photography for a flea market inspired, rustic, outdoors engagement shoot. From the vintage finds to the fairy lights, everything about this session screams Rock n Roll perfection.

The clothes were provided by Doris Divine and all the props were sourced from flea markets, charity shops and the like.

Sweethearts in South Africa

This is my second South African post within so many days and I’m pretty sure you’re gonna dig this one just as much as the last. The lovely Laura actually found photographer Kat Forsyth through a post on Rock n Roll Bride so this session is even a little extra special to me. The Australian bride-to-be will be marrying her South African sweetheart Gustav (who she met in the UK – boy are these guys travelled!) back in Australia later this year and judging from the coolness of this engagement session, I just know their wedding is going to be Rock n Roll Bride worthy!

Rock that Frock

This fun all day trash the dress shoot was sent over by UK photographer Natasha Hurley. I really love seeing the evolution of time throughout these images – from the early morning light in the garden shots, to the late afternoon sun in the graffiti shots and the evening time darkness with the contrast of the artifical lights in the final urban images. Quite apart from that, the bride Miranda looks like she’s having a ball and I love love love her heart shaped pink sunglasses.

“My thought process was for the shoot to have a slightly magical quality with a modern twist” Natasha told me “It came about after I bought a shockingly bright pink handheld mirror with baroque patterning around it….In the end the mirror only made it in one of the shots (the silhouette of Miranda looking at the mirror), but it was a great starting point I guess. The photos are a mixture of posed shots and those “in between” moments which I love to capture – in this photoshoot they are mainly of Miranda cracking up laughing as passers-by shouted “congratulations” to her!”

Quirky & Stunning, British Wedding

Forgive me, but I literally almost wet myself when I saw these shots from the hottest, newest photographer on the block, Emma Case – and can you believe it, this is only her first official ‘Emma Case wedding’! (I’ve featured a wedding she shot for a friend before she decided to pursue it full time.) I got a very excitable email from the lady herself this morning and I couldn’t wait to get home to share these right away.

“Well, here it is, my very first, official, didn’t know the couple before, professional, as ‘Emma Case Photography’ wedding!” She began.
“Christie contacted me back in November and straight away I knew just how ace she was. Not only did she mention fake moustaches and knee-sliding as part of the wedding plan but she was funny and honest and completely on my wavelength. We emailed back and forth in a ‘know each other already’ type of way and by the time me and Pete were driving up to Devon on the 30th January I was a little nervous but so excited to finally meet her (we didn’t get the chance beforehand) and her soon to be husband… the Berninator!
The wedding was held at the most amazing Huntsham Court… oh man the bathroom in the bridal suite was AMAZING, oh and the library… and the… well you can see for yourselves, the whole house is stunning!

Quirky & Stunning, British Wedding

👰

Forgive me, but I literally almost wet myself when I saw these shots from the hottest, newest photographer on the block, Emma Case - and can you believe it, this is only her first official 'Emma Case wedding'! (I've featured a wedding she shot for a friend before she decided to pursue it full time.) I got a very excitable email from the lady herself this morning and I couldn't wait to get home to share these right away. "Well, here it is, my very first, official, didn't know the couple before, professional, as 'Emma Case Photography' wedding!" She began. "Christie contacted me back in November and straight away I knew just how ace she was. Not only did she mention fake moustaches and knee-sliding as part of the wedding plan but she was funny and honest and completely on my wavelength. We emailed back and forth in a 'know each other already' type of way and by the time me and Pete were driving up to Devon on the 30th January I was a little nervous but so excited to finally meet her (we didn't get the chance beforehand) and her soon to be husband... the Berninator! The wedding was held at the most amazing Huntsham Court... oh man the bathroom in the bridal suite was AMAZING, oh and the library... and the... well you can see for yourselves, the whole house is stunning! The ceremony (that I wasn't allowed to photograph.. grumble, grumble) was beautiful with a really heartfelt speech from both Christie and Bernie's sisters (I'm gonna have to man up in this profession as I could feel myself going) and then food was served followed by a wonderfully proud speech from the Father of the Bride and a particularly funny song by the Best Man and his guitar! Instead of a wedding cake they had a 'pig'nata (pinata) and for the evening entertainment 'Gabby Young & Other Animals' played their socks off (you need to check this band out) and EVERYONE was dancing! Finish it all off with about 3 hours of The Photo Booth which had me literally in pain through laughing too much and you have all the ingredients for one hot wedding." Thanks to the lovely Emma for sharing these, and I KNOW we'll be seeing a lot more greatness from this girlie (and I can't wait to finally meet her soon!)
