Neon Graveyard Las Vegas Elopement with a Blue Wedding Dress

Gina and Russ weren’t into the idea of having a traditional wedding – instead they wanted something intimate and just about them and their daughter. They were inspired by other elopements in Rock n Roll Bride, and their love for the States, and so their Las Vegas elopement was born!

“We wanted to get married somewhere unusual,” said Gina, “and stumbled upon The Neon Museum on Pinterest. I love comic book artwork, so having a colourful, vintage style backdrop for our photos was cool, and being surrounded by the history of Vegas felt a very unique experience.” They also wanted to tie their wedding into a big road trip of California, so everything fell into place quite quickly after finding the perfect venue.

A Backyard Rainbow Wedding: Jason & Gwen

Honestly? I struggled with what to write about today. Usually on a Sunday I’ll post something non-wedding related that’s caught my eye or I’ll share something exciting that I’ve done in the week. But I shared my Photography Farm retreat escapades in this week’s Thursday Treats and since then I’ve basically been chained to my computer replying to the squillions of emails that came in whilst I was away and writing as many blog posts as physically possible. I also spent rather a lot of time on the phone to Cosmopolitan Magazine. NO BIG DEAL (more on this soon!)

And then this wedding pinged into my inbox and it all became clear.

Show me a rainbow wedding and I’ll show you a very happy wedding blogger. Of all the weddings I feature, I think I’ll always be have an extra special place in my heart for a wedding with so much colour. Like, seriously, what’s not to love?! With $12,000, Jason & Gwen planned this colourful explosion in Jason’s Mum’s back garden. “It isn’t always cheaper to DIY,” wrote the bride. “But we never could have done so much ourselves without the mega-ton of help we received from our friends and family. I am so glad we did it that way though, because we had some great times working on projects, planning, and being excited with our closest people.”

“It’s hard to want things different from the norm sometimes”, Gwen continued. “Some people had a hard time understanding some of my ideas, but overall people were great. I really wanted the wedding to represent us and our styles, and to do what felt right to us, not what it felt like we should do to fit into everybody’s idea of what a wedding is supposed to be.”

Janel & Eddie’s Action Packed Central Park Wedding

Janel & Eddie were married at Central Park’s Conservatory Garden. “As soon as planning started I realized that if I worried about giving people what they expected from a wedding or what would make them comfortable, I would not enjoy my day as much as I should” Janel told me. ” So I just went for everything that makes me happy and comfortable and made those the focal points of the wedding.  I don’t see the point in buying an expensive pair of shoes for a dress that you are going to only wear once, so I got cool sneakers that I can wear again, and again, even if the dress will have to stay hung up forever.  I also love our action figure collection and my British Sci-Fi shows (especially doctor who), so I threw them in there too with a weeping angel in my bouquet and a TARDIS as my card box.”

The wedding theme started off as having a vintage carnival vibe, but by the time the wedding rolled round it had morphed into a “Whatever the hell Eddie and Janel want, with a vintage touch” (their own words!) The bride wore a dress by Michelle Roth with customised Converse and carried a DIY bouquet like no other! “Anything can be part of your bouquet,” she explained. ” When my girls started to feel left out that only the boys had action figures as boutonnieres, I went on the hunt for all of the female kick ass action figures that I could find (which was harder than I thought).  I wrapped 22 gauge wire around one their feet to make something like a stalk that I then put into the bouquets so that they had some support.  The result was a unique touch that didn’t necessarily jump out at you right away.”

Jonnorae’s Nerdy Movie Theatre Wedding

Amorae & Jonny- or Jonnorae as they often go by – wanted a very personal wedding…and they certain achieved that by celebrating their self proclaimed “nerdom”! The pulpit that the officiant stood was a throwback to the pipes that Mario traveled down, and instead of a typical unity candle or sand ceremony, they brewed a potion like Harry Potter! At the reception they wanted to pay homage to their ‘nerdiness’ with centrepieces of books, legos and miniature games hidden inside the hand painted faux books. They also held a quiz for their guests to play at their tables called “Jonnorae Geekdom Trivia” (by the way, I love this idea – we did it too!)

The ceremony, held at Lakewood Theater in Dallas, TX was just as bespoke. Instead of traditional vows they played a round of rock, paper, scissors to decide who would read theirs first, and afterwards they both phones to update their facebook statuses to married!

Chihuahuas, Cupcakes & Cuddles

“I’m no model,” bride to be Angela’s email began, “but I just got a sneak peek of our engagement session photos and I love them so much I thought I would share.”

“No model?” I thought, “not only does that not matter in the slightest but I might actually have to disagree with her a little bit there. She is totally gorgeous!”

Angela,  her fiance Luc and their two chihuahuas Minou & Birdie (there’s no way we can ignore them!) had a beautiful session to celebrate their engagement. The couple, who will be marrying in Mexico next May, wanted a variety of shots from casual ones with the dogs to ones with ridiculous props and finally to a few on a golf course. “Because my sweetie loves golf we went to a golf course and tried to have a vintage feel to the pics… Don’t know how much of a vintage feel we got but I don’t care – I love them!” Angela told me.”I love that our photographer got pics of my purple fluevogs and Luc’s black sabbath converse. She even took pictures of a silly card Luc made for me while they waited for me to get home from work, and pictures of the dogs on the couch posing.”

Rotterdam Rock n Roll

I love these guys! Normen & Priya are from Holland and had their engagement shoot in Rotterdam with Tapas Maiti. This is just pure Rock n Roll and the couple have got a GREAT story. “I met Priya at the Asian Wedding Exhibition last November” Tapas told me. “It was an hour to go before closing and I was about pack up when she came to my stall and we got chatting. Priya & Norman are from Holland, her mother was a Hindu who arrived in Holland via Surinam whilst her father is a Sikh from the Punjab. Many Indian Hindu’s have settled in Holland by way of Surinam through the Dutch Indian Empire, its a fascinating story and shows the complexity of the Indian diaspora.”
