Thursday Treats: Chocolate, Cologne and Ridiculous Nerves

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

What have I been up to since we last spoke? Er, quite a lot actually! Last Thursday I was in Brighton visiting my friends at Choccywoccydoodah. They make the most epic wedding cakes and I was there to take part in their first ever Witches Kitchen class.

Upstairs in their brand new shop, nestled within the South Lanes, we got to decorate our own ChoccyWoccy creations. I opted for a white chocolate skull (I mean, how could I resist?) and it was surprisingly awesome fun! I went with my sister and we had the best time eating our body weight in sweets, getting our faces painted and drooling (not literally!) over the amazing cakes decorating the space.

The Witches Kitchen would make an AMAZING hen do idea, but you can also hire their Empire Room for two hours worth of ALL YOU CAN EAT chocolate. Oh baby! Just make sure you wear trousers with a forgiving waistband.

There was no time to sit around devouring my creation though, because bright and early on Friday morning Gareth and I were up and heading towards Heathrow. We were off to Cologne where I had been invited to speak at Deutscher Hochzeitskongress, the first German Wedding Congress. I’m not gonna lie, I was BRICKING IT! Not only did I have to speak to an audience of 200, but an audience that spoke English as a second language. ARGH!

I had to do an opening key note speech and then a half hour presentation in the afternoon sharing blogging advice for wedding professionals. Although I was suuuper nervous beforehand, as soon as I got on stage I felt much more at ease. For me, the best thing an audience can do is smile back and nod along in agreement, and I was thrilled to see this happening as I spoke. They were such a great group of people and chatting and taking selfies with them afterwards was even more fun!

But the fun doesn’t stop there! This weekend I’m speaking at the Flourish and Prosper workshop in London (a smaller audience this time, so there are less nerves!) and then on Sunday I’m going to attempt to make my first ever Sunday roast. I’m not sure which I need more luck for, although I suspect it’s probably the latter…

So yeah, BUSY BUSY but I ain’t complaining. Life is so damn good right now, I can’t quite believe everything that’s happening…

Alrighty, Thursday Treats time, hurrah!

Thursday Treats: #IOWWANKERS

IOW Groups-3

Last weekend I packed up my hot pink suitcase, hopped in the car with Ronnie and Craig and drove down to Southampton to get the Ferry to the Isle of Wight! Alongside Sophie and Gareth (my Gareth was at home on kitty watch/ a DIY mission) we spent the weekend in The Scout Hall, an amazing converted – you guessed it – scout hut, pretty much in the middle of nowhere! It. Was. Amazing.

Oh and in case you’re wondering, #IOWWANKERS was our truly hilarious Instagram hashtag for the weekend. Aren’t we a hoot!?

I’ve never been to the Isle of Wight before, but we picked it for a little getaway because we wanted somewhere remote, and completely away from our everyday lives. Some of you might remember that our beautiful friend Jo passed away last February, and as awful as that was, the whole situation really shook us into action and made it realise how important it is to make time for your friends. Even when everyone is stupidly busy, it’s so vital. In fact I think it’s more crucial to do it when you’re busy. It can be so easy to assume that everyone knows how much you care about them, but unless you show and tell them, they might not.

So we did just that. We played board games, watched all three Back to the Future movies (my idea of heaven!), drank wine, cried a little, laughed a lot, took photos of the sunset, went for 2am walks in the pitch black, meandered down the beach and played mini golf on Sandown Pier. It was the perfect weekend away. So perfect in fact that I didn’t turn my laptop on once!!

I also made a little video. It’s silly and pointless, but I love it.

Today, I’d love to encourage you to plan that trip with your friends. The one you’ve been talking about for ages but have never found the time for. There is always time. Even if it’s just one night, one afternoon, one hour… please, make the time for your friends.

Thursday Treats: Keepin’ Busy

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

October is proving to be one of my busiest months EVER! On Tuesday The Blogcademy announced it’s 2015 dates as well as a Level 2 workshop (YAY!) and I did some filming in my house for something else we’re launching in a few weeks time (I’m even more excited about this one and I think you will be too). More on all this soon!

I’ve been a bit poorly ever since I got back from the US (cough, cough, splutter!) but there’s no rest for the wicked. Tomorrow I’m heading over to the cold, rainy Isle of Wight with some of my friends for bestie bonding time. As the weather is sure to be dreadful, we’re planning DVD marathons, board game tournaments and lots and lots of vino drinking. I can’t wait!

Sending lots of warm, vibes from my house to yours… Here’s what else has been going on around the web this week.

Thursday Treats: There’s No Place Like Home

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Ahh it sure is good to be back in my own space, especially as while I was away Gareth replaced ALL THE CARPET in our house! It might sound like a weird thing to be excited about, but when we moved in (over seven years ago!) it was something we immediately wanted to change but it was the one thing we never got around to. It’s such a big job we kept making excuses and putting it off.

Then, a few days before I left for New York Gareth told me he was ready to give it a go and that he wanted to fit it all by himself while I was away. He schooled himself with YouTube tutorials and laid every last scrap of that carpet with his own bare hands. What a champ.

Now our house looks brand new, bright and glorious. Like a proper grown up pad. I’m starting to get very excited about the prospect of new curtains, new furniture and colourful pictures hanging on the wall. Having such an overbearingly disgusting coloured carpet (terracotta – seriously who thought that was a good choice?!) meant we didn’t want to do ANYTHING to the house, the colour just ruined everything. But not any more! I am on a Pinterest planning mission.

In non-carpet related news, I got back from DC early Monday morning and I’ve been crazy-town busy since then. On Tuesday I went to the Cosmopolitan Magazine Blog Awards where I presented an award AND came highly commended in the wedding blog category. YAY! It was such a fun night, so fun in fact that I decided to make a little video. I hope you enjoy it!

It’s definitely awards season in the blogging world. Tomorrow we’re off to The Savoy (fancy!) for the Wedding Magazine blog awards too!

I hope you’ve all had a wicked week. Here’s some other pretty wonderful things that have been going on in the rest of blog-land.

Thursday Treats: Workshops, Awards and Weird New Hair

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I’ve spent the past seven days in New York and I’ve been having the best time! After teaching over the weekend, Shauna had to head to Palm Springs for a design retreat, so Gala and I have been exploring the city as a terrible twosome all week. It’s been pretty rad although we’ve missed our third!

By the way, this update comes to you from an Amtrak train speeding through the American countryside! We’re teaching our final US class of the year in DC this weekend (er where has this year gone please?!) I’ve never visited the Capital so I’m preeetty excited to see the White House and have some touristy fun times all day tomorrow. Any other recommendations of what we should do while we’re there?

I fly home Sunday night, so I have to go to the airport as soon as the workshop is over. I have two awards ceremonies to go to next week – the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards, where I’m co-presenting (!!) an award as well as being nominated for Best Wedding Blog, and the Wedding Magazine Blog Awards where I’m also up for a couple of gongs! It should be a fun week, for sure!

Thursday Treats: Salutations from The USA!

Gala Darling HQ

This update comes to you from one of my favourite places in the whole wide world, New York City! I’m currently sat in Gala’s beautiful apartment, sipping PG Tips and watching Dolly snoozing on my bed. Hank got in with me last night (he was SO FUNNY, trying to be all cute and sneaky, although when you’re a 60lb pitbull there’s nothing sneaky about you!) but when I woke up this morning, Dolly was spooning me. Oh puppies.

I’m in town for the next Blogcademy workshop which kicks off this weekend at Makeshift Society in Brooklyn. The class is basically sold out, but if you wanted to make a last minute booking, I’m sure we could find space for you! Then, after a week wondering around Manhattan we’re off to DC for another class. YAY!

I found plenty of time for internet surfing while waiting for my flight yesterday, enjoy!
