Thursday Treats: Vivienne Westwood and Heading Down Under!

Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset

It’s that time again. It’s the week before I go away on a big Blogcademy trip and I’m trying desperately to write and pre-schedule three week’s worth of blog content before I hit the road. Something weird has happened to me this time though. Usually, I chain myself (metaphorically speaking!) to my desk, and bash them out easily. It takes a long time, sure, but I’m a nerd and I usually always get them all done with a few days to spare.

Yet this time I seem to have been sabotaging myself. I don’t know if it’s the time of year, and wanting to take things sloooow, but I’ve been procrastinating a bit and I ended up booking a lot of things in that took me away from my desk this week.

On Tuesday I was invited to the Vivienne Westwood 2015 press preview at their Davis Street store in London. I have been a MASSIVE Viv fan for years, and in fact the very first thing I ever bought when I earned some money from this blog was one of her necklaces, so it was pretty incredible to be invited into the inner circle.

If you have deep pockets for your wedding dress then you HAVE to go see them. Good God, they are too damn beautiful in real life (of course my photos do not do them justice!) The Princess dress (above) might have just taken the lead as my favourite wedding dress of all time. Can I please just own it to flounce around the house in?

Before we crack on with the real reason you’re here today (Thursday Treats baby!) I wanted to give you a quick little update to let you know that on Monday I fly out to Australia for the final leg of our 2014 Blogcademy tour.

We’re teaching a class in Sydney on November 29th and 30, in Melbourne on December 3rd and 4th and in Auckland on December 6th and 7th. Yes, it’s going to be a full on trip but I’m so excited to see my babes again and to meet some brand new blogcadettes (by the way, if you’d like to come along, we can totally squeeze in another little one!)

Do you know we’ve taught close to 700 people at this point?! What the hell right? That is a LOT! We’re also planning something BIG which we’ll be launching in the new year. A lot of people have asked for it, and we’ve definitely listened… that’s all I can say for now!

SO if you need me, I’ll be in a completely different time zone, and in SUMMER! I’m raiding my wardrobe and trying to remember what we wear when it’s not frigid outside.

I’ll see you on the other side!

Thursday Treats: Practising What I Preach

Adorona-002-shelldemar

Shell De Mar Photography

Going from the past month or so of absolute chaos to this week, which has been relatively quiet, has been odd. That’s not to say I haven’t been keeping myself occupied (that magazine and this blog ain’t gonna write themselves!) but I’ve said no to every invitation, turned down meetings and spent 99.9% of my time in my house, wearing sequinned sweatpants. Last week I wrote about how being busy and ‘in-demand’ is not an indication of how valuable you are as a person, and I’ve been trying to practice what I preach.

So what else did I do? Well I made my first roast dinner on Sunday (it was yum, just don’t tell my mother I used frozen roast potatoes, she’d be horrified!) and I attempted to do my first ever home DIY project! I’m certainly no crafting expert, which was demonstrated very clearly as I tried to dip-dye some polyester voiles pink for our living room. Actually that’s not true, my execution was fine (even if Gareth did hang around like a deranged nanny, wiping up every little splash I made on the kitchen counter!) but it turns out polyester doesn’t really take dye… So actually what I’ve created it more of suggestion of baby pink at the bottom of the curtains. Not really the look I was going for. But at least now I know I can do it, I just need to find some curtains that weren’t £3 from Primark for my next try. Maybe next week…

I hope, whatever you’ve been up to, you’ve had a good one too.

Thursday Treats: Chocolate, Cologne and Ridiculous Nerves

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

What have I been up to since we last spoke? Er, quite a lot actually! Last Thursday I was in Brighton visiting my friends at Choccywoccydoodah. They make the most epic wedding cakes and I was there to take part in their first ever Witches Kitchen class.

Upstairs in their brand new shop, nestled within the South Lanes, we got to decorate our own ChoccyWoccy creations. I opted for a white chocolate skull (I mean, how could I resist?) and it was surprisingly awesome fun! I went with my sister and we had the best time eating our body weight in sweets, getting our faces painted and drooling (not literally!) over the amazing cakes decorating the space.

The Witches Kitchen would make an AMAZING hen do idea, but you can also hire their Empire Room for two hours worth of ALL YOU CAN EAT chocolate. Oh baby! Just make sure you wear trousers with a forgiving waistband.

There was no time to sit around devouring my creation though, because bright and early on Friday morning Gareth and I were up and heading towards Heathrow. We were off to Cologne where I had been invited to speak at Deutscher Hochzeitskongress, the first German Wedding Congress. I’m not gonna lie, I was BRICKING IT! Not only did I have to speak to an audience of 200, but an audience that spoke English as a second language. ARGH!

I had to do an opening key note speech and then a half hour presentation in the afternoon sharing blogging advice for wedding professionals. Although I was suuuper nervous beforehand, as soon as I got on stage I felt much more at ease. For me, the best thing an audience can do is smile back and nod along in agreement, and I was thrilled to see this happening as I spoke. They were such a great group of people and chatting and taking selfies with them afterwards was even more fun!

Thursday Treats: #IOWWANKERS

IOW Groups-3

Last weekend I packed up my hot pink suitcase, hopped in the car with Ronnie and Craig and drove down to Southampton to get the Ferry to the Isle of Wight! Alongside Sophie and Gareth (my Gareth was at home on kitty watch/ a DIY mission) we spent the weekend in The Scout Hall, an amazing converted – you guessed it – scout hut, pretty much in the middle of nowhere! It. Was. Amazing.

Oh and in case you’re wondering, #IOWWANKERS was our truly hilarious Instagram hashtag for the weekend. Aren’t we a hoot!?

I’ve never been to the Isle of Wight before, but we picked it for a little getaway because we wanted somewhere remote, and completely away from our everyday lives. Some of you might remember that our beautiful friend Jo passed away last February, and as awful as that was, the whole situation really shook us into action and made it realise how important it is to make time for your friends. Even when everyone is stupidly busy, it’s so vital. In fact I think it’s more crucial to do it when you’re busy. It can be so easy to assume that everyone knows how much you care about them, but unless you show and tell them, they might not.

So we did just that. We played board games, watched all three Back to the Future movies (my idea of heaven!), drank wine, cried a little, laughed a lot, took photos of the sunset, went for 2am walks in the pitch black, meandered down the beach and played mini golf on Sandown Pier. It was the perfect weekend away. So perfect in fact that I didn’t turn my laptop on once!!

I also made a little video. It’s silly and pointless, but I love it.

Today, I’d love to encourage you to plan that trip with your friends. The one you’ve been talking about for ages but have never found the time for. There is always time. Even if it’s just one night, one afternoon, one hour… please, make the time for your friends.

Thursday Treats: Keepin’ Busy

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

October is proving to be one of my busiest months EVER! On Tuesday The Blogcademy announced it’s 2015 dates as well as a Level 2 workshop (YAY!) and I did some filming in my house for something else we’re launching in a few weeks time (I’m even more excited about this one and I think you will be too). More on all this soon!

I’ve been a bit poorly ever since I got back from the US (cough, cough, splutter!) but there’s no rest for the wicked. Tomorrow I’m heading over to the cold, rainy Isle of Wight with some of my friends for bestie bonding time. As the weather is sure to be dreadful, we’re planning DVD marathons, board game tournaments and lots and lots of vino drinking. I can’t wait!

Sending lots of warm, vibes from my house to yours… Here’s what else has been going on around the web this week.
