faux fur

Not looking for the traditional engagement session, Melissa & Colin went to Rhys Albrecht for an original concept…and he came up a treat! “I pitched 2 ideas to them.” Rhys explained “First, an 80’s inspired squash court shoot with knee socks, headbands and short shorts. Second, and this is a direct quote from my initial pitch to them, “a modern twist on the classic après-ski look. I’m picturing ski boots, tights, long johns, touqes, skis, parkas, etc. With bold colors. Like, if you could imagine Vogue merged with Nylon Magazine to do a “How to Glam Up Your Après-Ski” issue.”  And third, a more subdued winter look with slightly absurd accessories…like giant faux-fur hats”

Incredible

I literally couldn’t think of a more apt title for this post as when I saw Mary & Adam’s 1930s/40s themed bridal shoot I squeeeeealed in my email reply to photographers Jessica & Chelsea , ’Oh these are so incredible, I can’t wait to blog them!’

“We had been planning this shoot for months but just needed the right two people to do it” the guys told me. ”As you can see, Adam and Mary were perfect for the shoot.  We actually had the wedding dress made for Mary by a local seamstress for $100 (including the cost of the fabric).  So, we loaded up and headed to Denison, TX.  Our plan was to shoot at the Old Dennison Hotel, but when we got there we found some other amazing places to shoot as well.  The town is so weird.  It seems like it once was a booming little town (like in the early part of the 1900’s), but then as it started to crumble, no one ever fixed it or tore down the old buildings; instead they just built all these modern structures around it.  It just feels kind of forgotten, but it was really perfect for our shoot. One of the places we shot was this adorable little 50’s diner and malt shop complete with old gas pumps, a juke box, and checkered floors! It’s called Peggy Sue’s 50’s Diner and Ice Cream Parlor.  As for the Denison hotel…

Faux Fur Retro Chic

Fashion designer Kelly & her fiance, Martin’s engagement is a total joy of faux fur, retro chic! Their amazing-sounding Halloween  themed wedding will be taking place in October this year and after Kelly told me she’s not only making her bridesmaid dresses but her own wedding dress I was literally already chomping at the bit to see the results! In this, their engagement session, Kelly looks amazing in her red tights, vintage faux fur coat (from a Salvation Army store) and headband (a gift from her future Mother in law.) Congratulations guys!

Anna & Mark got married on the Monday before Christmas at the beautiful Victoria Hall in Saltaire, Yorkshire which was the perfect venue for them as it was just two streets away from where they live!

Everything about this winter wedding was meant to be. As well as the venue being practically next door to where she lived, Anna also stumbled on her gorgeous dress quite by accident at a vintage clothing store. A few days before the wedding, she spotted a mint condition Morris Minor in town, and left a polite note on the windscreen asking if the owner would be kind enough to drive her down the road to the Victoria Hall on the wedding day itself. The owner called back and agreed!

Meredith & Eric’s wedding was based around their all time favourite band – Gun n Roses baby! Meredith wore a dress designed by the same designer behind the wedding dress in the November Rain video. It is imperative they you listen to this song as you view these fabulous images (and excuse me, but did anyone else forget how awesome this song is…and don’t even get me started on the hair - I love it!)

To top it all off, the couple actually got their wedding for free…yes free! Check out the full story from the News 9 news report and the full list of vendors who donated their services for nothing on photographer Brandi’s blog.

Leo Patrone is one of those photographers that I’d consider a celebrity! As soon as I came across his work I was hooked. So when Leo said he was happy for me to blog Kelly & Cameron’s vintage-inspired Utah wedding portraits I was so excited, “Hell yeah I’ll feature these, wooo!”

Oh squeeeeal! I’m not sure I can say anything more intellectual about Luke & Charis’ wedding and Charis’ bridal shoot, in fact I think only ’squeeeal’ will cover it. So. Much. Awesome!

“This couple was married in a barn at Sharon Rose Farm in Greenville SC”  photographer Anna told me “The bride is a hair stylist, the groom is a drummer – so the music and the style was fabulous and original. I thought what was so rock n roll about this wedding was that the bride made surprise stick-on tattoos to replicate her new husband’s favorite tattoo on his arm, and all the guests had a mini tattoos during the reception just like the groom!”

Charis wore a dress from David’s Bridal and she asked her bridesmaids to simply pick their own black dress.

When Charis and her bridesmaids walked into the venue someone said, “It looks like an anthropologie catalogue just walked in!” The ceremony and reception were held in a beautiful red renovated horse barn. It was such a nice mix of rustic farm, elegant chandeliers and vintage flare.  There were mason jars with wild flowers, and baskets of peanuts on cocktail tables as guests mingled and sipped lemonade before the entering the barn. An old typewriter was used as a to write notes to the bride and groom, and a sweet bird cage to put them in.

Just sit back and enjoy these – I know you will!

This brand spanking new wedding was sent to me by the fabulous Andana Lima. I fell in love with bride’s beehive, her faux fur coat and all the DIY projects involved in making their day elegant and personal.

The DIY projects behind this wedding included the bouquet made out of black and white fabric, the boutonnieres for the groomsman and mother of the bride, the monograms, the wishbook and all the centerpieces and table decorations. Courtney also added her own beads to underneath her shoes. The custom flops were made by J*Flops.

Snow Queen

Shandi’s bridals are seriously swoon-worthy! Photography-envy anyone? Her dress was from Belle Bridal in Logan, UT which she rocked up with some red gloves for the shoot (she is going to wear black ones on her wedding day in February.) I can’t wait, can you?!
