1950s Old School Glamour Wedding: David & Kelly

Kat

Let's Frolic Together

July 30, 2013

David and Kelly's wedding was held at The Riviera Palm Springs Resort. The day have a classic 1950s retro vibe with monochrome details and elegant and timeless glamour throughout. "The inspiration for our wedding was classic, retro glamour", explained Kelly. "I love everything that embodies the 1950s: the cars, the clothing, the glamour. Women were so put together in such a classy way. I'm a sucker for the old glamour and how people dressed to a 'T' back in those days. People dressed up when they went out. They took pride in their appearances. Short shorts and flip-flops did not cut it when going out on the town. I'm just very classic and 'old school' when it comes to these types of details. I feel that I represent this ideal everyday (even though I do own a pair of flip flops and do wear them every once in a while!)"

Homemade Red and White 1950s Wedding: Maud & Robert

July 24, 2013

Maud and Robert's wedding was full on Rock n Roll! This Dutch couple went for a classic combo of red and white with a few touches of orange. Most of their guests even showed up wearing same colours! "For over a year I browsed Rock n Roll Bride for inspiration and was SO inspired by the lovely 50s and vintage and pin-up weddings", Maud explained. "All our friends and family expected something different for our wedding. They just knew it wouldn't be traditional or 'ordinary'. A typical Dutch wedding means a strapless long dress, a humongous sports car, doves, natural make up, a huge white cake... I don't like any of that, I never have. I like things to be a lot more vibrant and colourful! It's just us. It's who we are. In 'real life' my husband also rocks the pompadour hairstyle (even to work as a financial analyst!) and I wear pencil skirts and red lipstick every day. Our wedding showed exactly who we are."

July 22, 2013

It's not everyday you get to see a wedding on a steam train so I'm super excited to share Sarah and Gareth's fun wedding with you today. "Our wedding was randomly retro, vaguely vintage and a bit of a mish-mash adventure!" began the bride. "I grew up going on steam trains as a treat as my Grandpa was a big fan! So I was straight on the blower to The Great Central Railway as soon as we got engaged. We were lucky enough to be able to hire a fancypants Pullman rake, which is a bit 'Orient Express' - my Grandpa would be proud!"

Homemade Farm Wedding: Nree & Adrian

July 17, 2013

Nree and Adrian were married on a Friday afternoon in February. Their farm venue set the tone and theme for the day, which they accessorised with homemade yellow details. "Our wedding was summery, relaxed, vintage and handmade", wrote the bride. "Our main objective was to keep the cost down! So styling and hand making everything was a top priority (also something that I LOVED doing). We wanted to be super relaxed and for our guest feeling relaxed on our special day, so having the wedding at Gum Gully was perfect. The sun was shining, the birds were signing and all we could smell was that sweet country air."

Shutter + Lace

July 3, 2013

Ben and Kate were married in August at Flaxton Gardens, Queensland, Australia. They wanted a romantic wedding but one that was a little bit different, to reflect their personalties. " I struggled to begin with to decide what to do and how to do it", began the bride. "I read a lot of magazines and blogs but it wasn't until I found Rock n Roll Bride that I realised that it really didn't matter what everyone else was doing, we should do what represents us best. So we did what made us happy, didn't worry about tradition so much and did things that weren't so ‘wedding’. I kept my hair short (I always thought I’d grow it), I kept it coloured (blue) and we wrote our own vows that made everyone laugh as they really reflected us."

Backyard Tipi Wedding with Skunk Anansie as the Wedding Band: Mark & Erika

Cotton Candy Weddings

June 28, 2013

Sigh! I just adore weddings liked Mark and Erika's. Chilled out, not at all matchy-matchy and where everyone looks like they had a total blast. The couple didn't wait a 'tick the box' wedding, instead they pulled inspiration from all over - their heritage, their home and their friends. "We didn't really have a theme or colours that matched", Erika wrote. "I have always been a mis-match kind of girl so we had elements of our backgrounds so Japan / Yorkshire / countryside / Autumn / vintage/ boho!"

June 26, 2013

Marina and Darren were married at The Prince Albert pub in Camden. Their day was simple but elegant and beautiful. The bride read the term 'rustic luxe' in a bridal magazine and that seemed to fit them perfectly! "Our wedding was full of beautiful rustic touches, like the flowers and picnic baskets, mixed in with a bit of 1920s glamour to give it a luxurious feel," she explained. "Birds played a small part, as we had become a pair of Finches! We wanted the overall day to feel relaxed and the evening to be like a bloody good night out!"

Candy Land Madonna Inn Wedding: Liz & Bryan

Looking Glass

June 21, 2013

Liz and Bryan were married at the famous Madonna Inn in California. The day was a beautiful mish-mash of a vintage candy store and a retro tattoo shop. "We really wanted to keep our wedding upbeat and light-hearted", wrote the bride. "I think the temporary tattoos, candy, giant wood cut outs and photo booth helped create a really fun environment. Halfway through the night the photo booth props became a part of the wedding and we had groomsmen in capes and dresses as the Hulk and Spiderman on the dance floor. It made the pictures hilarious."

Lakshal Perera

June 20, 2013

You know when you meet someone and you can instantly tell that they're your kind of person? You talk non-stop about everything and anything and five hours later you wonder where all the time went? Well that was exactly what happened to me when I met up with photographer Lakshal Perera last week. Based in Australia, Lucky (as he's known to his friends) is without a doubt one of the biggest talents coming out of Oz right now. His work never fails to blow me away and the fact that he's literally one of the nicest people I've ever met makes his talent even more exciting to me.

June 14, 2013

Sharon and Huw didn't really wanted to have a wedding theme but through just picking things they liked they ended up with a wedding that reflected their love of music and of London. "When we started to plan the wedding we were adamant that we were not going to have a theme but I think we ended up with a London one", Sharon began. "It was so important to us to get married in the city that we live in and which we love and incorporating iconic features such as the routemaster bus and vintage taxi for transport just felt like the natural thing to do."

Heidi Benjamin

June 10, 2013

Alison and Michael were married at The Green Building in Brooklyn. They got together after chance meeting at Kate's Paperie in New York, a Craigslist 'Lost Connection' that actually worked and a long online relationship. After finally getting together and then getting engaged they planned the wedding in just three short months. "When planning the wedding I became charmed by the idea of parlour weddings, the way folks used to do it before the Big Business of weddings", Alison explained. "So we wanted to create the look and feel of a living room for ours. We wanted to take items from each of our apartments and create a cozy and personal space where we could gather our nearest and dearest to watch us make this amazing commitment."

Whimsical Carnival Wedding: Rachel & Ryan

Allebach

June 5, 2013

Rachel and Ryan wanted a beautiful but fun wedding so they decided on a subtle vintage carnival theme. They didn't want it to be cheesy or too overly done, and "No clowns" was top of their list of requirements. "We wanted it to feel like a beautiful whimsical wedding at a carnival and not have it be a cheesy carnival wedding," began Rachel. "We also wanted people to have a good time. We didn't want people saying 'that was nice' we wanted them to shout 'that was fun!' The ceremony was heartfelt enough to make you cry, but funny enough to make you laugh with quirky remarks and personal heartfelt vows. From the start we asked people on the invitations to wear bow ties and suspenders. Everyone loved the dress code and looked straight out of the 50s as the music blared."

June 3, 2013

As someone who gets to see a lot of weddings on a daily basis, it takes a lot to surprise me, and even more to show me something I've never seen before. But I think I can safely say that I've never seen a plumbing themed wedding before... or a Pee Wee Herman groom for that matter! Obviously I was keen to hear more about it and so wanted to speak to the gorgeous Tracy who married Michael in The Plumbing Museum in Boston (of course!) about their day as soon as possible.
