Daisy and Leigh’s retro wedding themed came about because they knew they wanted anything but a traditional day. “We decided to go down the retro/ vintage theme, but also I didn’t want it to be the typical ‘vintage’ wedding style that is everywhere at the moment!” Daisy wrote. “I also didn’t want a traditional sit-down meal so we had afternoon tea complete with cocktails served in teapots. The wedding eventually became about all of the things we love from the 1950s to the 1990s! I wanted our wedding to be really unpretentious and for everyone to have lots of fun.”
The couple DIYed their stationery and most of their décor items, but really they just wanted to keep things simple and fun for everyone. Daisy wore a short, 50s style dress which she had custom made by Fable and Promise “I loved my dress”, she continued. “Having it custom made was such a great idea. I had tried on at least 20-30 ready-made dresses before I designed my own and they just weren’t me. Rachel at Fable and Promise was fantastic and understood exactly what I wanted from my dress (including pockets!) I felt beautiful in it and spent a lot of the evening twirling around the dance floor with all of my petticoats!”
“Our biggest expense was the wedding band. There was 10 of them so it wasn’t cheap, but they were brilliant! They performed everything from rock n roll to swing, which got everyone up dancing. Phil was DJ for the last two hours of the wedding and he played a set list of our favourite songs. To have songs from ‘Dangerzone’ to the Fresh Prince theme tune was a great way to end our day, and there wasn’t a cheesy DJ or flashing disco light in sight!”
“One of my favourite things about our wedding was that we got matching tattoos a few weeks before”, Daisy concluded. “They say ‘I wanna grow old with you’ (The song which Leigh sang when he proposed). When I first started planning our wedding, I took loads of inspiration from Rock n Roll Bride so am super happy to be able to share our beautiful day with your readers!”
