Avant-Garde

Kat

September 3, 2009

Texan born, UK based photographer Tami Curtis has a style like no one else I've seen. The techniques used give each image a distressed feel like they literally are images from the 1920's but with a real avant-garde feel. This style of photography wouldn't be everyone's choice for their wedding album but it's a style I can't help but be drawn to. Be sure to take the time to check out Tami's blog, Pulp Fiction, for more vintage gorgeousness! Thanks to Tami for sending me Eve's gorgeous bridal session Credit: Tami Curtis/Jane's Attic

We’re The Theme!

Kat

September 2, 2009

Amy & Jody certainly didn’t want a traditional wedding and went all out to show their individuality though their big day. As Amy told me, ‘We never wanted a conventional wedding. We wanted a mishmash of our favourite things and hoped it would all work out. Who needs a theme? We’re the theme!’ The couple had an intimate wedding with close family at Islington town hall which was followed by a massive party at The Distillers Bar. It was the small touches that made this day fabulous - whether that being the ice-cream van (free 99s all round!) the Cuban band or the tower of cupcakes and free flowing drinks that scream of British summer like Pimms. Amy’s outfit was a vintage-inspired look at high street prices. The tea-length dress was by Aftershock, her adorable shoes were from Clarks and fascinator/veil was found in Topshop! The bag and jewellery were all real vintage finds and her best friend's mum made her bolero. I love Jody’s loom so much! Sometimes the Grooms tend to let the team down (here in the UK anyway!) with slightly boring suits or unimaginative fashion choices, but not this Groom! He bought a vintage suit, shirt and cravat from J Simons in Covent Garden. The trainers have got to be my favourite part of his look. When on holiday in Vietnam, he asked a shoe maker to make him a pair of Adidas Hi-Tops out of embroidered silk, not realising the guy would actually agree. Photographer David said he loved having two pairs of gorgeous shoes to shoot! Thanks to Amy & Jody for sharing their day and to David for sending me the gorgeous images! The Wedding Of The Year

Kat

August 27, 2009

I am not the most patient of people and when photographer David McNeil told me about Caroline & Callum's upcoming wedding at the beginning of this year I was already dying to see the results. The couple not only found David through Rock n Roll Bride but Caroline proceeded to tease me with regular email updates on their wedding planning gorgeousness - from her amazing David Fielden dress to her perfect Vivienne Westwood shoes (I loved them so much I even attempted to make my own Rock n Roll Bride version!)

The City Of London

Kat

August 27, 2009

Find your photographer through Rock n Roll Bride then it's pretty much a given that I'm going to totally love your wedding and wedding photography! That's exactly what Carolyn & Marc did and yep, I was right - stunning! The couple got married right in the centre of London - 'The City' as it's known. I love this part of town. My Dad works around here so I have fond memories of visiting him at his office when I was younger, marvelling at the huge and modern nature of landmarks like The Gherkin and The Lloyds Building vs. the ornate detail of the indoor Leadenhall Market (where Carolyn & Marc had their reception.) I remember my Dad once taking me into on of the bars in this area which to a 15 year old kid was very exciting! Be sure to head over to Marianne's blog for a much larger selection of images from this day! Thanks to Marianne for sending these to me and stay tuned for yet another amazing wedding - photographer sourced from this very site - later! Credit: Marianne Taylor Photography

The English Way

Kat

August 4, 2009

In many ways the UK is a very forward thinking, literal place to live. Gay marriage is legal, you can drink at 18 and not attending church every Sunday is generally not frowned upon. However when it comes to wedding legalities, Britain can be a little strict on the rules. You can't, for example, legally marry outdoors. You are only able to wed at an officially consecrated place with an officially appointed person officiating the ceremony. However Lucy and J's dream was to have an outdoor humanist ceremony at Oxon Hoath in Kent, so despite the English weather and the English laws, they did just that (they did of course have to do the legal thing as well.) I am loving the following details about this wedding - Lucy's dress and shrug combo was from Joanne Fleming Design in Brighton, UK and their completely unique rings were designed and made by the couple themselves. Lucy's gorgeous bouquet was from Darling and Wild with the rest of the flowers all being done themselves who visited Covent Garden wholesale flower market to buy the blooms. Their uber cool twist on the traditional boutonnerie were again made by the couple themselves using white peacock feathers, leaves from the grounds of the venue and old buttons are pretty damn gorgeous though right? Ahh England, I still love you.

An Inspired Choice

Kat

Photographers Craig & Chanelle Segerius-Bruce met Andy & Kim way back in 2007 in South Africa, when they (the photographers) were on their own honeymoon. The wedding took place at Parley Manor in Dorset and Kim wore a Benjamin Roberts dress. My favourite of all these images, has to be the Jeff Newsom-inspired swirly light shot..mean, moody and very very cool. I am doing a photo shoot with Chanelle soon..I am very excited about it as the concept we have come up with is quite different to what you might be seeing everywhere else right now...hint: I'm getting all crafty with black tulle!
