A Bat Out of Hell Piss Up in a Brewery!

Kat and Chris have a little secret – they actually instantly disliked each other when they first met at work! That soon changed though as they co-managed a team together, they soon became the best of friends and the rest, as they say, is history.

While they were careful not to have a strict theme for their big day, they knew that they wanted it to reflect both their personalities – and their budget! Although they’re known best for black wardrobes, another plot twist – they knew they wanted their wedding to be a mish-mash of colours, prints and sparkles. As well as drawing inspiration from their love of music, with CD-sleeve style wedding invitations with a bespoke-Ramones style logo, they also wanted to include their beloved cat, who featured on the invites, and who’s portrait was pride of place at the top of the aisle. Throw in rocking a whole lot of polka-dots, some Star Wars and Frankenstein prints and their working-brewery location, these beer-lovers achieved a day that they could look back on and pinpoint exactly where they let their personalities shine through.

Glam Las Vegas Inspired Wedding

Glam Las Vegas Inspired Wedding (18)

Laura and Dom got engaged at the Grand Canyon while on a trip to Las Vegas. As they both love the city and 1950s glam, they decided that should be their wedding theme. Laura wore a red wedding dress, and they had a polka dot theme for the bridal party; the bridesmaids wore 50s style polka dot dresses and the groomsmen had polka dot pocket squares. For entertainment they had casino tables, a pianist, and Laura did a choreographed dance with her dad.

“We both wanted everyone to enjoy our wedding day”, said the bride. “We wanted a very short ceremony followed by a big party. Everyone gasped when I entered the room in a red dress! I had a charm with a photo of my granddad on it attached to my bouquet which a friend gave me the night before the wedding. My granddad was very important to me and passed away in June 2015.”

Cute, Pink and Polka Dot DIY Wedding: Dima & Jeanette

Kawaii polkadot diy wedding13

This fashion designer bride and her artist groom were married at The Rapids Theatre in Niagara Falls, NY. They wanted a budget-friendly, DIY wedding and so did as much as they could themselves. Their good friend, Greg Barris, a stand up comedian who was already ordained, preferred their ceremony. The bride designed and made her own dress, but the DIY didn’t stop there!

“We decided to take our time planning the wedding”, explained Jeanette. “I am a fashion stylist, and Dima is an artist so we knew our wedding would be very creative. We also knew that we didn’t really have any money for a wedding, so we knew we would be making most of the stuff ourselves. We also knew we didn’t want anything too traditional. We couldn’t afford any of the venues we looked at in NYC and Brooklyn, and my family really wanted the wedding in Buffalo, so we compromised, and decided to have it in Niagara Falls, NY. We figured it was close enough for my family, and still a fun destination for our New York friends.”

“We found The Rapids Theatre online, and before we even looked at it in person, we knew it was the one”, she continued. “It is a huge Rock n Roll venue, but has the look of an elegant theatre. It used to be a movie theatre in the 1920s, and the owners have restored all of the original architecture. It was the perfect venue for us, because we knew we wanted to have a rock show, and the owners said it was okay to have our dog, Glitter, be the ring bearer! The staff was amazing, they loved all of our ideas, and everything ran really smoothly on our special day.”

Dottie About Dots ~ Dottie & JP’s Polka Dot Themed Bash

Dottie is dottie (!?!) about…erm…dots so that’s exactly the theme she wanted to go for in her wedding! She and JP were married at Christ the King Church in CA followed by a polka dot themed wedding at Elements Venue at the Ice House.

The bride (real name Amanda) wore a gorgeous Mori Lee dress, customised with a polka dot sash (and a polka dot garter!) which matched JP’s tie, made by Elmmies. The polka dot theme continued into the cake, the linens and even the groom’s socks!

“So Dottie loves polka dots to death & that’s how she picked up the nickname Dottie,” Christina, their photographer, told me. “They are a super fun & totally madly in love couple that know how to live life to the fullest!  We LOVE all of their fun faces & big smiles! Not to mention they’re epic style. They are the happiest, nicest couple around. They’re the type of people that can make you laugh until your belly hurts & horchata comes out your nose & ohmygosh, the reception was filled with tons of the best goodies that life has to offer. They spent their honeymoon at the happiest place on earth…but of course, DISNEYLAND!”

Leigh & Aaron’s Beer & Bike Themed Bash

“We live in a South Philly row home with a garage that houses our bicycles and Aaron’s home-brewing equipment in lieu of a car,” bride Leigh began. “We knew as soon as we were engaged that we’d ride our tandem bike, acquired from craigslist a few years back, into our reception entrance. We kept the bike theme going with a tandem bike cake topper, a Ketubah that was designed for us especially by Chris Soria, and hotel gift bags and DIY thank you notes with tandem bike stamps.”

“For the beer part of our wedding theme Aaron brewed 45 gallons of beer in 5 different styles (He is now setting up his own home brewing company called Franklin Heights Brewing). Our centerpieces used various-sized jars which we collected, filled with wheat and barley (the barley was purchased from Barry’s Homebrew Supply in South Philly), and our florist incorporated wheat into our bouquets and corsages. Aaron grows hops in the backyard that went into his boutonniere and was on display at the bar. We had almost no beer left at the rest of the night – a testament to his talents!”

Leigh’s love of polka dots also crept into the wedding theme in terms of their invitations, her Belle Couture dress and a lot of the other 100% DIY paper details which were put together by the couple and their friends and family at their ‘crafting parties.’ The DIY and community effort didn’t end there though, with Leigh’s necklace being a hand-made gift from a friend and the photo booth which was set up by another friend. Some of their talented musician friends performed a couple songs, all of which was captured on video by several other friends and family who volunteered their hand-held video recorders.

Candy Anthony, Cupcake Tattoos & Pink Converse Trainers

Some eagle-eyed and long-term readers may recognise Nicola, who’s ‘Do It Yourself’ wedding I featured way back in May 2009. Nicola decided that she wanted to rock her gorgeous Candy Anthony wedding dress just one more time, so got in touch with photographer Caroline to see what she thought. Luckily, when Caroline heard ‘Candy Anthony, cupcake tattoos and pink Converse trainers’ she was totally up for it and they planned this fun and fashionable shoot.

Caroline also persuaded Nicola to bring a few more outfit changes (does this girl just live in gorgeous 1950’s style dresses or what!?) and they were good to Rock n Roll!
