A Modern Marie Antoinette Meets Witchy NYC Wedding

Hosting their wedding day at a mansion on the Upper East Side of New York meant Mike and Midge couldn’t go halves with their wedding theme – and they did not disappoint! “The inspiration behind our wedding was a very modernised and stripped down version of the Marie Antoinette aesthetic,” said Midge. “Think classic yet decadent, with a lil’ bit of a witchy touch!”

Aside from dressing it with dozens of white roses, pillar candles and eucalyptus, the house needed little else in the way of decor to achieve their opulent, palatial vibe. Complete with chandeliers, sweeping staircases and original features, it was the perfect setting for their day.

Timeless, Elegant & Eclectic Summer Wedding

There was a timeless and classical element to the styling of Jade and Ben’s big day. They wanted their summer wedding to feel elegant with with an eclectic edge. The celebration absolutely still felt authentic to them and keeping the colour palette and theme quiet neutral meant they could focus on the things that they felt were most important (the ceremony and the food!)

They planned the day in just six months, which although was stressful at times, meant they made lots of decisions very quickly and just got stuff done! “I looked at advice for planning a wedding online, in terms of when everything should be completed by etc, and most of the deadlines had already passed by the time we started!” laughed the bride. “However whole wedding was achievable due the amount of friends and family who helped us out beforehand and on the day. During the ceremony we had our family members playing the flute and violin as people were waiting and as I entered. Sweet Love by Anita Baker was sung by close friends which was a favourite moment.”

Relaxed and Elegant Dressless North London Pub Wedding

Emma and Roxy’s relaxed city chic wedding day is a totally beautiful celebration of love. It’s so easy to get caught up in the aesthetics of weddings or the little details, but at the base of it all, it should be about a gorgeous love story. This magical North London pub wedding totally does this (although it nails the aesthetic details too!)

“We didn’t have a theme per se,” they explain, “but we wanted to evoke everything we love about that area of London: the history and the nature. So we chose venues with lots of wood, natural light and greenery – a little bit of magic and an ode to the wonderful outdoor festivals we’ve been to. Our aim was to make people feel like they stumbled upon this special place in the heart of North London.”

Emma and Roxy got ready together with their families before jumping in a black cab to get to Burgh House, where they then separately walked down the aisle with their parents by their side. Actually spending time together on the day was key to them, and would be their advice to anyone planning their wedding currently: “Lisa Devlin, our photographer, passed on the advice to spend time together on the day a few weeks before the wedding, and we’re so glad she did.”

Elegant Gothic Castle Wedding (with a Black Wedding Dress!)

Bunny and Michael’s elegant castle wedding is an absolute STUNNER. Their big day was gothic whilst still being glamorous, grungy yet gorgeous, and dark without being dull. These scenes look like they’ve been lifted straight out of a fantasy world (not that we’re complaining, in the slightest!)

Even though it looks like it could be nestled in mysterious Transylvania, their venue was the glorious Hempstead House in New York. Bunny explains that both her and Michael “fell in love really hard with this venue, so there was no doubt [we] were ready to do what it took to have it.” And we can totally see why – those airy feature windows and intricate corners inside, with that incredible walled ceremony garden and it’s expanses of candyfloss coloured sky beyond.

It’s all too easy for venues to give loads on the outside but have been forgotten about on the inside, but all these gorgeous portraits captured by Mike Zawadzki Photography and Tara Tomlinson Photography prove this is the cream of the castle crop, full of nooks and crannies and ever-changing shafts of light that keep throwing up more never-seen-before magic.

Shaun and Samantha wanted a casual wedding that would reflect them as a couple. They opted for a modern, urban location, Hotel 64 on Gordon, in the heart of Durban. “We decided on the casual route, canapé food served all night, cocktail tables rather than table settings and a constant string of all types of music”, began the bride.

“We also served frozen margaritas instead of ‘headachy’ champagne and had a black, bronze, copper and gold colour scheme. It all really came together beautifully. The flowers were causal collections too, with no table being the same! We created an enchanted bubble for ourselves that night. We really could have been anywhere on Earth!”

Elegant Red, White and Blue Wedding: Cameron & Lizzy

Cameron and Lizzy chose a red, white and blue colour palette for their August wedding. Starting with the bride’s stunning bespoke gown and the groom’s three-piece suit, it then filtering though to the hydrangeas and rose arrangements, and finally the attendant’s clothes.

“There was no single theme for the wedding, but rather a sense that we wanted people to be wowed all over again as they moved from space to space”, began the bride. “The ceremony was all red, white and blue – very British. We had big hydrangeas and red roses in crates and flowerpots, and the bridal party and groomsmen all decked out in the same. For the afternoon tea in the ballroom, we took Brympton‘s 2,000-piece tea set as a starting point and created a very eclectic and vintage-y look. Then, for the evening reception in the orangery, we went for a gentleman’s club feel – lots of jewel colours, plush furnishings and bits and bobs raided from my parent’s house.”
