Elopement Photo Session in the Canadian Rockies: Ashley & Scott

canadian_rocky_mountain_wedding_Micheal_B_031

Ashley and Scott are Australians who love to travel. So they wanted to celebrate their wedding with a true Canadian photo session adventure in the Rockies. The day took place at Emerald Lake, Alberta. Their was no planning, no script and no posed photographs.

“We walked past sleepy cabins, and huge resting trees”, wrote photographer Micheal Beaulieu. “Even before the first light could be seen, we were waiting by the shore of a quiet, and still, emerald lake. We were surrounded by mountains in every direction, and Ashley and Scott were nearly giddy with nervous excitement.”

“For just a few hours, the three of us explored mountains, walked along the most gorgeous emerald, and blue river banks, slowly adventured up rugged trails to overlook miles of wooded valleys and snowcapped mountains. During all of this, we shared our personal stories, our inspiration, and it really was amazing, and without a doubt, my most rewarding photo session of the year.”

Pirate Wedding in Toronto: Jackie & Y’Ves

674_JackieWarden_HRM

Jackie always knew she wanted a pirate themed wedding, even before she met Y’ves. So when it came to this couple saying “I do” there really was only one way they were going to do it! The wedding was held on The Kajama Tall Ship, docked at The Harbourfront Centre on Queens Quay West in Toronto. They had their ceremony on the deck at 12.30, they set sail at 1 ‘o clock and everyone de-boarded at 5.30.

Guests were then invited to join them for post-wedding cocktails in the Watermark Lounge at the Radisson Admiral Hotel. The evening ended with a bit of a pirate pub crawl, hitting up the Amsterdam Brew Pub and then the Foggy Dew Irish Pub (where the couple met while they were both working there).

Mermaids and Rock n Roll By the Sea: Winona & Dave

1950 By The Sea_Ryan MacDonald Photography 340

Winona and Dave were married on a friend’s property in Maple Bay, on Vancouver Island. This venue really set the tone of their day, with personal touches throughout.  The overall theme was a 1950s rockabilly seaside with pops of nautical, mermaids and Rock n Roll!

“We decided to have our wedding on Vancouver Island which is drive and then 2 hour ferry ride, from where we live in Vancouver”, explained the bride. “Although this meant many trips in the months leading up to the wedding with a packed car, its where I grew up. It’s where my parents still live in their geodesic dome is still one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. It’s also where my husband and I would like to eventually move to when we have a family of own.”

Laid Back Calgary Art Gallery and Pub Wedding: Deanna & Mike

Deanna_Mike_Calgary_Wedding_Honest_Organic_Candid_Photography_Blair_Marie_Photography (299)

Deanna and Mike were married in an art gallery in Calgary and their reception was in their favourite pub. They wanted their day to be fun for themselves and their guests so they kept things relatively simple, with minimal decorations, and just focused on the stuff that really mattered to them.

“We just wanted the day to be about us and what we wanted and the love of everyone there”, Deanna wrote. “It made the day so special to have so many friends help out with the details leading up to the big day, and actually on the big day. I also think that we have the reception at our favourite pub makes our wedding fairly unique. We also had two different types of music going at all times, there was soul and reggae on one side, and hip hop on the other.

Private Island Retreat Wedding: Sana & Derek

_TorontoIslands_HRM_NikiPatel_48

Sana & Derek were married on an island. Artscape Gibraltar Point is located in the former Toronto Island Public and offers 35,000 square feet of affordable retreat space, artist studios and accommodations for artists and creative thinkers. The tranquil and idyllic setting was perfect for their intimate and artistic wedding. The day started with the entire wedding party taking the ferry over to the island together. “We knew immediately that we wanted to hold the wedding on the island – it’s the perfect escape from Toronto, and a place where we have spent countless summer days swimming, biking and hanging out on the beach,” wrote Sana. “Artscape had the perfect laid-back and nostalgic feeling that we wanted in a venue, and they even let us have a bonfire outside on the beach!”

Sana opted for an untraditional bridal look, choosing to wear a blue dress by Betsey Johnson and Dr Martens, while Derek wore a tartan kilt. “We wanted the wedding to reflect who we are as couple, and the things that we love to do”, the bride continued. “Almost everything was handmade or vintage, and there were tons of things that came straight from our home. Derek’s parents picked all the flowers from a local wildflower farm and we used craft beer bottles that we’ve collected over the past couple of years as vases. The pine cones in the centre pieces were gathered on a camping trip and the crystals and little vintage animals were from our shelves at home.”

Winter Wonderland Wedding in the Snow: Briar & Simon

winter-barn-wedding-taylorroadesphotography-0058

We may be finally edging our way into Spring but I couldn’t help but share this delicious winter wedding with you today. Rather than avoiding the enviable snow situation, Briar & Simon embraced it with a winter wonderland theme and blue colour scheme! The wedding was held at Boynton Bros Farm in Ontario, Canada. The ceremony was held outside in the woods (brrr!) and the reception in on of the farm sheds (double brrr – these guys are HARDY!)

“Our wedding was a winter wonderland – cold and blue with lots of sparkle”, explained Briar. I loved that we were able to have an outdoor wedding despite the temperature. It couldn’t have worked out better. We actually first started dating when I was playing hockey at a local ice rink where Simon worked so the cold was also kind of appropriate! I also loved doing the photos with just me and Simon outside in the snow.”
